Phone recommendation for someone that just needs reception

Hello guys. I have just recently moved from Atlanta to Charleston, SC. I have found that I get awesome cingular reception most places but my apartment. I have 3 motorolla V180 phones (obtained them from work) and a V551 phone. The problem is that I get spotty service with all of those phones and my reception regularly fluctuates between 1 and 4 bars dropping call about every 5 minutes. For my job I develop asset tracking devices that use GPRS to transmit data to a central server and we use Cingular sims to test with. At my same apartment I get very stable connections and signal strength using these tracking devices so I am sure it is just a phone problem. Can you guys recommend me a smallish phone that gets great reception? The only requirements I have are that its small, not hideous, and doesnt cost a fortune. I have no use for mp3 playing, cameras, or any of that stuff. Thanks for the help!

Wirelessly posted (whatever the next lines says: HTC-8100/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

what about a nokia 6010 or the 6030. there pretty cheap. 20-30 dollar range

You can get a Razr for next to nothing nowadays. Great RF and good all around phone, if you're not a feature-junkie.

6102i gets the job done

I was thinking about the Razr but from my searches I have done on here the results seem very mixed and the overal consensus seems to be that Nokia has the best reception especially the brick/non flip styles. I was looking at the Nokia 6102 but I wasnt sure what results everyone had with it. The 6030 has definitely caught my eye being cheap and small. I appreciate all your responses. Keep the recommendations coming!

Here in St. Louis, my V3 is awesome.
Have had the phone since May/05 and maybe 10 dropped calls
in those 16 months. tremendous reception.

Nokia 6230b if you want a little more than the 6030.

V3 does have great reception, and it is definately 'smallish'

Which would you say had the best reception, Nokia 6030 or Razr V3?

Posted by: babalouj

Well I decided to go with the Nokia 6030 for now. I ordered it as a Go Phone from Cingular for $30 so if I dont like it I will move on. Since that phone was so cheap I may get a Razr in the near future also. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I don't think you can ever go wrong with a Nokia in terms of reception.

I just received my 6030 and I have to say that I love it. Not only does it get great reception that trounces my v180 it also came with the silver faceplate just in case i wanted to switch from the black one. All new just for $30 from Cingular.

howard had this to say about the v3i:
Quote:
The v3i's RF performance was awesome - it's about the same as my Sony Ericsson W600i and Z300i both of which are best I have ever tested.

razr V3 gets the best reception of any phone i've tried. i've heard nokias get good reception also but one of your requirements was not hideous.

RAZR. Hands down. It has signal everywhere I go.

Springfield, St. Louis, everywhere.

The V3 is Cingular's best performer across all markets of its current mobiles. I also second the 6010/3595. They are RF tanks and can be found for cheap.

Based on my experience, Razr V3 is the best for reception. I also had a Nokia 6230. V3 gets better reception than the 6230.

Ditto. I'm having a hard time buying something different simply because nothing else comes close to it in the RF department.
