SE w600 vs. Nokia 6682

So the past few days I've been thinking about selling my W600 and possibly going for a 6682. Seems like the camera is better, has more features, better signal strentgh, and has fewer firmware bugs than even the latest w600 firmware. Has anyone used both phones? Anyone know the retail price on the 6682 at a cingular store? I found it new online for 300 for an unlocked model but I'd really like to try it out first to see if it's to my liking. I've checked out some reviews and am not really sure what I should do. Any input but be appreciated.

I think you're going to have a hard time getting a 6682. The reps I spoke to said the phone has been discontinued. After I ordered mine online, it disappeared from the cingular.com site for my zipcode. I've never used the w600, but my friend has one. She tried using my 6682 and LOVED it. It's really a great phone. The reception is amazing, probably a bit better than my 6230. My only complaint is the battery life, but it is a smartphone, so it goes through more battery than my 6230. If you can get your hands on a 6682, go for it. I don't think you'll regret it.

I bought my 6682 Cingular-locked (but used, mind you) on Ebay for $200. You can get them cheaper, but I'm impatient and had to have one ASAP.

The one and only reason the 6682 is my back-up and not my main phone is because I prefer a qwerty keyboard. other than that, I'm completely in love with it!

6682 is a much more powerful phone--but if you don't need the symbian OS and you need first and foremost a phone, I would recommend the w810i as a replacement. Has a 2mp camera with autofocus, and I have found no bugs thus far. Really nice little phone(and much smaller than the w600). I would also add that the 6682 keypad is VERY cramped IMO(although you're probably used to that on your w600)--difficult to dial by feel. Texting is also easier on the w810 because the keypad is better--just my .02

Lol I got mine in april for 160 on ebay!! What a steal!

yeah i remember back when i exchanged my Razr for thw W600 I tried out the keypad on the 6682 and it did seem pretty cramped. Oddly enough the keypad on the w600 doesn't give me any problems.
I'm trying to figure out if I need/want a smartphone. I installed tons of games on my W600 but would probably not use much of the PDA functionality beyond what I can do with my w600. There might be a few apps I might like to install and might be interested in loading movies on the memory card etc. The W810 is nice but it's too pricey right now and I'm not sure it gets any better signal (my w600 is good but not great in that regard) and speaker/earpiece volume. Once I hear a few more reports on it and the price drops I'll consider that one too.

I still consider the 6682 first and foremost a phone. The PDA functions never come into play unless you want them to. For me, they're just nice to have, but they do not get in the way of regular calling functions.

The keypad cramping is true, but after a few hours of use you should be able to pick it up just fine. I have rather large hands, but I don't struggle with it.

I agree completely. It is a great transition phone for someone who is trying to move to a PDA.

I still use my w600i, and I love it! Its got te best speaker/sound quality out of any phone I have used. And the games are great, especially that some games use the swivel action. The reception is great, and the overal UI on the phone is spectacular!

After having the phone for about 9 months, I did run into some software issues, but I just updated the software via wap.sonyericsson.com and I was all set!

Great phone, althoug the w900 is coming out.......

i don't think w900 is coming out here...lack of 850 support

Well I went ahead and got one off of ebay. Over the past day I'd lost about 3 auctions by a matter of less than $3 so I saw another auction from a reputable seller selling a like new one for $180 plus shipping and I bit. I figure, even if I end up not liking it, I can probably resell it for only slightly less than what I paid for it. If I do like it, I can sell my W600i for probably at least $100 which will help bring the cost down. So hopefully I'll have it soon and I'll enjoy it! At one point the size was a concern but my brother bought an 8125 which I've been playing around with for a while and it's really not that big and the 6682 is smaller. I'm curious to see if the 6682 can grab a signal in some of the places where my W600 can't.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much you love the 6682. Check out the series60.howardforums.com forum, there's PLENTY of help in there on your phone.

Some things to know:

1. Themes are easy to find, go to symbianthemes.com, register an account (free) and pick the 6682 as your phone and it'll show you themes for your phone.

2. If it doesn't come with the cd, download Nokia's PC Suite, it allows you to connect your phone to your computer and sync contacts/calendar/todo list, install programs, and other fun stuff.

3. The 6682 is Symbian s60v2, for future reference. There's a myriad of free software for it, and some incredibly useful paid programs, as well. Ones that I found indispensible are:

ControlFreak - www.mtvoid.com
Calcium - same place
Symella - www.symella.com
FExplorer - just google it, don't know the url off hand
Smartmovie - www.lonelycatgames.com

If you know where to look, some of the paid programs can be found for free, wink wink.

i sold of my 6682, it felt cheaply made, but performance wise, i was a the bomb, yes, there is a lot of free programs for it, u can spend a whole day looking for good stuff online, videos are smooth, camera takes quick pics, i never had a dropped call on it. Heavily recommendd

6682 is awesome....if your not going to use the PIM functions, don't need full html browsing, or want the ability to add custom programs than go with the w810i, feedback is positive on this phone so far.

Thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to it. I've enjoyed my W600 but signal hasn't been as strong as I'd hoped (my building at work is a real letdown in terms of Cingular signal strentgh so I'm hoping the 6682 can squeek out a bar or two where the w600 didn't) and as I said before the swivel form factor is starting to get old. I've got a mac so I'll be using isync for contacts/calendar synching. I already downloaded the firmware upgrade just in case it's not current (I'll have to use my work laptop to do it though).
The W810 seems like a great phone but it was more money and I kind of wanted to see if Nokia and the whole Symbian OS are all they're cracked up to be.
Another reason I went for the 6682 is the true airplane mode (you can play games and use everything but the phone while in airplane mode) while the SE only allows you to use the walkman to listen to music/watch videos in airplane mode. I've got an ipod already so unless I felt like watching an episode of a TV show on the plane, it'd be a paperweigh. with the 6682 I can do alot more including review work documents without having to get my laptop precariously balanced on the tray table
I'll miss the LED flashlight function of the W600 but the Torch app should fit the bill nicely. Also, does anyone know if there is a way to set recurring alarms either through the included or add on software? On my W600 I set the alarm clock to go off the same time during the work week and then I use the one time alarm for the weekends. this way I never forget to set the alarm during the work week.

Posted by: Rcadden

there's a 3rd party app I believe called Handy Clock, or you can also setup a recurring event in your calendar, with an alarm.

Posted by: xj911

You can also set it up through the calendar, just make a recurring meeting.

i love my 6682 also... i just added a w810i to my quiver of phones.. and i can't say i like it better. i guess the main thing the 810 has going is the very good 2 meg camera. the only key on the keypad that really bugs me is the "2" key, crowded by the d-pad. the d-pad is one of the best anywhere, btw. making navigation a breeze. oh, and once you open everthing up in the background (calendar, phonebook, messaging, everything you use alot) it's very fast. also, the screen is big and beautiful. not as bright at the sony. but the size is great. check out shozu, can snap and upload to flickr instantly. and even tho the phone is wide and tall.. it's thin enough to be comfy in a front pocket. there, that's my scatterbrained mini review.

the w810 feels pretty good in the pocket
