Simple Questions Here

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just wanted to start a thread for simple questions in need of simple answers. Post your queries here.

My first Q is if you send one text message to 10 people does that count as ten text messages, or one? I am assuming ten, but not sure.

My second Q is if someone has say a cell phone based out of california, but moves to atlanta, and does not want to relocate. How do you decifer when her nights minutes begin? 9pm in EST or Pacific time?

Third Q : How do you determine what phones qualify for insurance? And if someone upgrades to a new phone and they had insurance on their previous phone, do they have to have the feature deleted and re-added, or does it automatically apply?

Im sure I will have more simple questions come, but thats all I gots for now? Just trying to learn a little bit more about our great industry

One text to 10 people is ten text messages.

Your night time minutes always start in the time zone you are currently in.

There is a list on csp that has the current phones that are eligible for insurance. If a customer does an upgrade it's the responsibility of the rep to inform the customer and remove the insurance if the new phone is not applicable.

1) counts as 10 messages

2) starts on EST (or whatever time zone you're in)

3) when you upgrade, the insurance follows to the new phone as long as it's covered by lockline and the IMEI is changed on the account.

Actually, one text sent to 10 people only counts as one text sent. My rep was in quizing us on different facts and that was one that was "unique" to Cingular. So if you send a pic messages to 200 people, it is still just one charge. I am going to get with him right now and have him send me the info so that I can back up the information.

1 text to 10 people is 1 text message.

1 text message to 10 recipients is 10 text messages. 1 mms message to 10 recipients is 1 mms message to the sender. You just have to have all 10 recipients in the initial send. You're rep was right, but you're confusing text messaging and mms messaging.

Edit: It turns out it depends on how you do it. Here's the relevant portions of the faq on cingular.com:

What is the pricing for Group Messaging?
Group Messaging is billed at the normal Text Messaging prices. There is no additional monthly charge or per message fees. Cingular customers are charged for one message sent regardless of how many people a message is sent to at the same time. For example, if a user sends a message to a group of 10 people, the sender is billed for one message and each of the 10 recipients is billed for one message. However, messages sent using a distribution list capability built into your phone are billed as multiple messages.

What is the cost for Multimedia Messaging?
Cingular charges on a per-message basis with no additional airtime charges. Several pricing options are available. You can either pay per each multimedia message, or you can purchase a package of messages at a lower per-message charge. If you plan to send or receive more than 12 multimedia messages per month, the package is a better option. No matter which pricing option you choose, you can send a single message to as many as 10 people for the cost of one message.

It's the responsibility of the customer to bother to tell us they received their new phone, so we can update their IMEI.

Otherwise, Asurion (L/L) will just replace it with the device on the accnt.

Well, if the answer you want verified is the one about text messaging, go here:
Text messaging faq.

For mms, go here:
MMS faq.

For what time nights and weekend starts go here and look for the bold print that says "Nights and Weekends" in the first paragraph. Start reading there. Better yet, if you're going to work for cingular you might want to just read the whole thing. Wouldn't hurt for you to know what you're talking about when you're explaining these things to customers.
Plan terms and conditions.

For which phones dont qualify for insurance go here:
Cingular.com support knowledge base.

You might want to consider using the knowledge base on www.cingular.com for questions like this.

I'm specifically talking about customers that upgrade through corp stores.
