YOU, AND YOU ALONE, TAKE ALL RISK FOR DOING THE FOLLOWING.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT WANT ANY DATA CURRENTLY ON THE PHONE.
THE PROGRAMS (SOFTWARE) INSTALLED ON THE PHONE (i.e., in flash as opposed to ROM) will probably BE GONE after this procedure.
If you brick the phone, or if it starts sending spam afterwards, or if it turns red and sticks its tongue at you after you've done this, it is your own fault! You have been warned.
These instructions come with no warranty whatsoever. The user must accept any risk.
So... If you still would like to proceed...
It is probably better to turn off the outside phone.
Then, you need to restart the PDA operating system that runs inside (restart the interface you see when the phone is open). To do so, you could use a freeware Rebooter utility. Alternatively, remove and re-insert the battery, then replace the battery cover. Then, open the phone.
The screen should be all white first, then Nokia hands will show. You will see the progress bar being filled.
When you see the Nokia hands, press and hold the following three keys for about 2 seconds: Shift, Ctrl and F.
There should be a prompt as to whether you'd like to format the phone. If you do, agree to it.
I do not know what will happen afterwards - I haven't actually ever tried this. You may need to power-cycle the phone (the inside interface, not the external phone) once more. Or perhaps you'll see that the previous settings/messages/etc. are now gone. Then, you are done.

Apparently, formatting is a battery-hungry operation. Doing it with the charger connected may prevent a dangerous battery fail halfway through.
Also, apparently it might or might not work (but if it doesn't, just try again) if a SIM or an MMC are inserted. If it does not work first, you may need to remove the SIM card and MMC card and then retry.
Good luck!

I've done it and it worked fine. I would take all MMC and Sim cards out. It will make it like it's a new phone with the original settings and ringtones.
