Hey guys, is the HTC Tytn the same as the 8125 just a 3G version? I'm in the middle of my contract so I would be buying the phones through someone other than cingular. Does the Tytn work well in the U.S. on 3g? Also, what are the best places to buy it and how much should it cost? Thanks a lot.

tytn vs 8125.

i dont know all the specs of the tytn but it does have a faster processor(400mhz samsung i think), a better camera (2-mp), and 3g support. Also i believe memory card is different. microsd on the tytn and minisd on the 8125.

most people will go for the tytn because of the processor and 3g. some people just cant handle the 8125's slow processor speed.

by far the cheapest option is an 8125 or MDA on ebay. they go for around 330ish i think. I believe the tytn is MUCH more, like around $700.

i couldnt tell you where to get one but im sure someone else here or at xda-developers could assist you more.

Head over to the Pocket PC forum here at HF, and you will find loads of information concerning the TyTN, which is not the same as the 8125. You can also try a search for the Cingular 8525, which is Cingular's upcoming version of the TyTN aka Hermes. Should be available later this year.

I have the 8125 and was going to purchase the TyTN, but I am going to wait for the 8525 when it comes out.

I have a TyTN and I used to have a Wizard (8125). The TyTN is a much nicer phone but I would wait fot the 8525 it would be cheaper and the 3G is very sweet if it is available in your area.

You can refer to my earlier post about minor differences between the TyTN and 8525 .. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1002894

do you need a different SIM for 3G on the TyTn or will any 64k sim work?

Posted by: goestoeleven

ask ten different people this question, and you'll get twelve different answers...

All I can say is that with Cingular Orange, I need to use a 3G 64k chip to get on the UMTS network. I also have an older 64k chip on my second line, and it will not see the 3G network.

Thanks, is the only way to tell you are on a 3G network is simply to do a speed test? My TyTn will be here Thursday and i'm trying to get prepared. I have a new Cingular 64k sim that came with my 3125, i just haven't activated it (i'm using my old one) and wasn't sure if i should. Can you tell the difference between a 3G chip and a non 3G chip (visually)?

UPDATE: I just looked at the new SIM and it says 3G on the back

You'll see a "U" where you'd normally see a "G" on the Today screen. A speedtest will definitely confirm it for you, too...
