.jar games on Nokia 6265i

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

forgive me if this has been asked already... I tried searching but found nothing.

I downloaded a bunch of .jar games from mobile9.com and copied them onto my phones internal memory with MobiMB but for the ones that actually worked good on my phone, as soon as i closed them and tried to open them again, it said the application was invalid and my only option was to delete it.

what gives? is this an issue of needing to change something with Diego? cuz i notice the games i bought from Telus Mobility aren't affected by this phenomoen.

Hmm, that is really odd. I copied my .jar games onto my miniSD and the only thing I used Diego for was to change the path to read the SD. However the programs work fine...

i copied all the games onto the miniSD card instead of the internal memory and it does the exact same thing... just lets me open it once and it works and when i try to open it again its screwed... application invalid... delete?

By default you can only access java applications stored on the internal memories. To access programs from your miniSD, you need to change this setting.

Hmm, so you're sure you were able to run the programs on the 6265? Are they supported?

well i know some of them werent but some of them load and play fine but then i quit using the games int exit function and its screwed for next time... weird

and i did change that setting. and the same thing happens no matter if its stored internally or on my mini SD

where can i get some games that are 100% supported by the 6265i? so i can see if thats the issue.

That is really strange then. I know some of the programs I have tried on the 6265 didnt work as well. They came up with that "x" over the icon on the file list.
Well the 6265 runs on the s40v3 OS, so I would start looking at sites like http://www.nokiapower.com for s40 games...from my experience, I know Tetris and PuzzleBobble work for sure.

I went and got pacman and chess from that site and they work great, the only issue is screen size. Apparently they are meant for a much smaller screen and I have to squint to see what I'm doing. I noticed that nokiapower doesn't list resolution size on the games' description. Is there any way to fix/avoid this problem?

How did you do this, specifically? What PRI did you modify?

As far as I know, there is nothing that can be done to adjust the resolution. Anyone is welcome to correct me on this...in fact I'd be glad if someone could

I had this problem today when i tried to install some jar games on my 6265i. I got the same initial errors you got (ran the program once, it ran ok. Then quit and tried to run it again and it said program invalid delete yes/no) xcept I chose no and went back to my games root directory (refreshed it), then when i tried running it again it worked again.

Posted by: ryne002

no there is not a way to adjust the screen resolution on the games downloaded in the s40v3 but what you can do is only download the games that say (6230i) at the end, these ones will fit your screen perfectly. I've downloaded doom and several other games onto my 6265 that said (6230i) at the end and they work really well on my screen.

Ive downloaded multiple games no luck also, a few application errors but mostly getting game to run at first then fail to operate on next boot. Any java settings to twaek in Diego for games to run? Im using the phones internal memory and default save location

nokianewbs,

Greetings. Do yourself a favour by reading through my thread... http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=962591

HC - NO "i"'.....I read that forum over and over before, but I'm not sure what to set....I dont want to take mess java up.
App setting menu.........Included
Access to java midiLets in gallery menu.......disabled
access to java midiLets on mmc..............disabled
java midiLets tranferred over Ir or bluetooth storage location.....option 2 set
java suspend on interupt feature.........enabled
Im using the phones internal memory and default save location. What to set it to I have no clue what one to tamper with. Thanks for the help in advance just incase I take lil while since its late.

Posted by: nokianewbs

I switched,

Access to java midiLets in gallery menu to Enable &
Access to java midiLets on mmc to Enabled and that did the trick without harming the phone in any way, but now I'm in need for a MiniSD because internal memory is used up....adding that to the Christmas list lol.
Hope this helps out the new guys as well...

See, when you dig up stuff in HoFo, you'll many resourceful members get the tricks! Check out the 6265i card compatibility list BEFORE you shop though http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=942677

Posted by: nokianewbs

Thanks for the heads up on memory card compatiblity, I read about the issues that can accure, not dealing with ebay as well because of the fake cards roaming around and issues with them. I always use Sandisk with my SLR and P & S cameras so I guess I'm off to my local mortar and brick store....1 GB San mini should do it.

I like to thank everyone that spent their time on posting usefull info and those that help new guys like me without any arrogance and rudess towards them, which seems to be the opposite on many sites.

Happy Holidays and remember to take it easy and be smart with the "NO drinkin and drivin rules" GUYS....cheers

I've jus always launched Application Installer in the PC Suite and installed them that way, And they've always worked perfectly for me everytime that way... I'd suspect jus dragging the files into the phones browser folder would cauz some or a few conflicts, Since it wasn't put into and loaded into the phone the correct way..

HI,

I dunno if this has been asked, but has anyone been able to transfer games viz Bluetooth OBEX? where can I enable this option in Diego? Thank you!

Posted by: madhatr

I have tried this on my 6265i, got some 6230i games, transfered them to the phone's memory via uploading it to a web portal and then downloading it and placing it in the games dir. I am still getting the game coming up in the top right corner surrounded by a white border. The only issue that I can see is that people say you need both the jar and jad files. I can never get both files over. Everytime I try it errors out when trying to download the .jad. It asks me if I want to replace the file and if I do it starts the download and then fails. How important are the .jad files? Because I have never been able to get one installed and have a few games that work fine without it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to find the games designed for 240x320px screen size! 6230i has a 208x208px screen size only.

But according to this the screen rez on the 6230i work on the 6265. I have searched for games made for the 6265 to no avail. There have to be some kinda conversion program. I tried filljava and it did not work, and I tried the trick of extracting the jar and editing the file and could not get that to work either.

Any ideas?

Posted by: Moderator HF 25

So why asking? Many HoFo members aren't posting things they haven't tried. I've tried loading apps on BOTH 6230i and 6265i. It all depends on how an app is written and designed. I've no problem (except the splash screen would be limited to the a square in the upper corner on the 6265i and 6230i screen) of a Lunar Calendar converter, for example. Because it's designed for 128x128px screen size originally.

6265/i/6268 is not a popular series because the majority CDMA markets aren't as big as GSM around. So if we want to find something like in this topic, go look for similar GSM Series 40 3rd Ed. models with the same screen size such as 6280.

Ok, I sure that this has to be the stupist question ever asked. But what are .Jad
files, and what are they need for, beause most of the ones that I can get running only have .jar files. It wont even acept them.

Posted by: sledbc

OK I think I've got this figgured out. After setting up my third 6265i, I couldnt for the life of me figgure out why i could play jar games on my phone, while the other 2 phones i setup would error and force delete of the identical games.

After comparing PRI settings in diego and making sure everything was the same, i realized, all you have to do after playing the game initially, is exit back to the main menu. This must write the game save info and settings to the phone. After that you can play and exit it as many times as you would like. If you simply exit the game and try to re-enter it while staying in the games menu, it will error and force you to delete it.

Someone else try this and confirm for me.

Thanks

Just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!!! I had just down loaded a bunch of games I thought didn't work...You guys showed me a new trick!!!!!

sledbc, Thank you very much for the info.
My 6265i has the same problem as many others mentioned here (ran the program once, it ran ok. Then quit and tried to run it again and it said program invalid delete yes/no). Hope your method works.
