Cingular 3125 and 2 year contract madness

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I want to buy the 3125 with a 1 year contract. I am currently cingular blue (off contract). Retentions says that it is not available with a 1 year.

So what happens if I do the following...

Buy with 2 year contract for $149.99

Then 1 year from now I break contract, resulting in $175 ETF...

Total cost = 150 + 175= $325. (I am ok with that).

Am i missing anything here?

I dont think youre missing anything. I guess you are definetly going somewhere in a year?

I dont understand why you couldnt get it on a one year though.

Reps don't do 1yr contracts because they don't get paid on them... they are available, but Cingular doesn't want 1yr.

You're better off going 2yr's and paying the ETF if you actually need to.

Does Cingular allow you to buy the phone outright from them? I ask cause I want it. T-Mobile does but you have to spend $50 extra for a prepaid SIM. Maybe I'll just have to eBay this and unlock it.

As of 2 days ago in Florida, cs gave me these prices for an upgrade. $449.99 for no contract, $374.99 for 1 year, $299.99 for 2 year. Didn't even ask about a SIM. These prices are still too high for me, don't like the 2 year contract. I'm still using a v551, I'll just wait till it vaporizes then figure out what to do next.

That's strange I just picked one up in Illinois on Sunday 9/17 for $149.99 on 2 year. I was quoted a price of $224.99 on 1 year after $50 rebate but he said I would have to sign up for the 39.99 data plan. He also said they didn't have any rebate forms in the store. Anyway I decided to get the phone on a 2 year knowing I have the option to just pay the ETF. And they need to offer more text messaging packages. I was told by the in store rep and the customer service rep over the phone that I had 2 choices. 200 messages for 4.99 or 3000 messages for 19.99. Nothing in between. Because I have the smartphone internet package the system would not allow the rep to add any other text messaging package. I'm a little ticked off about that. If there is a rep out there that can check into this I would sure appreciate it.

Did you go into a Cingular store?

It's available much cheaper online (around 149.99 I think).

Wirelessly posted (Nokia 6620: HTC-3100/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; Smartphone; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

It is 299 in store but there is a 100 and 50 rebate which make it 149.

What's the $50 rebate for and is it instant or mail in? When I went into the store last Friday they initially told me it was $299 witih $100 mail in rebate but when I told them it was only $149 on the Internet after a $150 instant rebate, they said they could give it to me for $249 with $100 mail in rebate, but they didn't offer until I brought up the Internet price.
