902sh continuous reboot...

Hey everyone- good to be back on the forums, but unfortunately it's not under good circumstances... I tried a search on this topic but came up with nothing, so i'm sorry if this has been answered before.

I have an unlocked japanese 902sh flashed with the chinese firmware (using it in the states with t-mobile). I've had it for over a year with no problems whatsoever until today... I noticed it was recieving some text messages about a day late, and would sometimes think I had a new text message even when there were none. I decided to reboot the phone. big mistake... Now whenever I turn it on it boots up into the initialization screen, turns of, and repeats this indefinitely until I take out the battery. I don't really have any way of debugging it as I didn't install the firmware myself, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen this problem and new of a fix short of sending it out to be reflashed which will probably be my last resort.

Thanks

since its not workin still try hard reset # + power and leaving it til it reboots itself

hey, thanks for the response. Unfortunately that didn't have any effect on the looping reboot. But if there's any other way to revert the firmware back to it's initial state (at this point I don't care about data loss) please let me know.

I think that #+power is only for the 903- the 902 doesn't have this (I had a similar problem with a Sharp 902 that I had before I lost it) so it may just have to be flashed.

ah, I was afraid of that... maybe it's finally time to upgrade. Personally, I've always liked the look of the 902 more than the 903/904 though. Might be worth it for the hardware changes in the 904 though once it's unlocked.

I was looking around today on yahoo japan auction and I noticed that both the 902 and 903 are pretty significantly more expensive than they sold for originally. I was kind of surprised, because they were pretty cheap when they first came out (as compared to the prices charged on ebat etc. to have one imported, locked or not). Used ones are selling for more than the price of a new one at release time. I checked on the vodafone website and it I wasn't able to find the 902 or 903. Were these models discontinued and now that's why they sell for so much? (i'm talking about stock, locked versions here!)

this is called a blinking 902.

u need to have it reflashed. chances are, however, that there is some hardware issue.

Is there any way to fix this hw issue?
My 902 recently became "blinking 902"
Flash and hard reset were sucessfull but phone is still "blinking"

I think that, like kevbodian said- you just have to get it re-flashed. I never found any other solution. I don't know if it is a hardware or firmware issue, but personally I'm thinking firmware..maybe the flash was just unstable after a while. Could have been a combination of both though. I ended up just getting a new one so I'll see if that one ever has the same problem. I got another 902 because I'm not a big fan of the 903s or 904's, looks wise. I have some family in japan though, and after I went there recently and saw some of the new phones...man... I saw some stuff that makes me just want to move. Like that FOMA sh903i...sweet!

I use Sharp 902sh with SX813 f/w for 1.5 years. If I remember correctly my 902sh rebooted itself only 3 times. I think that happened when I did not turn off and on my phone to reset/reboot after used it for weeks or months (kept having it on and charged as needed.) It may not make any sense but I think what I do now (once a while I turn it off and on later) may keep my phone last a little bit longer…

I had the same problem with my 903. Had to send it back to Japan for repairs.

As I said, flashing the phone gave nothing. Still rebooting all the time. Phone acts same way as before flash.

my bad- I should have read that more carefully... sorry, I can't think of anything else though... Since I got a new one I even took the old one apart to see if there were any obvious problems like burned out chips or loose connections or anthing, but I couldn't find anything.

HH- hope you have some luck with that. I had my first one for a little under a year and a half, and I had the same spontaneous reboot happen a few times, but I just figured it was a glitch. Maybe 3 or 4 times since I had owned it, but no other problems. You may be right about it being a good idea to manually reboot it every once in a while.

Heh, I did exactly the same with my 902. It looks ok inside I took lots of pictures and I will post them later. I have also 903 so it`s not a big problem for me, but still a great loss. I liked this phone very much
902 R.I.P.

there may be a bad nvmem chip or address that is preventing reads. if a proper flash (not a normal flash) doesnt fix it then there must be some hardware damage.

proper flash = using the correct files to fix this problem; a normal flash won't fix it.

OK, now things are getting interesting How can I get these "proper flash" files? Can you send me them Kevbodian? I have friend who can flash my 902 for me but I don`t think he ever heard of this "proper flash"
