From Club-Siemens

"S55 wins Europe’s most coveted design prize! (07.02.2003)
Along with 1500 other products, Siemens S55 won the design contest held by Industrie Forum (iF) Design Award 2003. According to the jury, the design of the keys on S55 is excellent shaped without space between each key. The jurys text about the S55 is like a tribute to this good piece of mobile. All details on S55 seems to have impressed the 25 designers from around the world that have made this desicion. Club-Siemens couldn't agree more. Congrats Siemens :-)"

Now I was right!!!!!!!!!!! THE BEST PHONE AVAILABLE NOW!

Now please all the Nokia 6100 HYPE and Panasonic GD87 trash ... give me a break! No more comments from me.

Posted by: [MDS]

its a german award and for design only... and don't forget there are other 1500 products that recieved that award... does not tell me anything...

but the truth is i anticipate it to be a great great phone... not the best, but the best value and as a overall package for usability, thus i agree here...

Posted by: molna

[MDS]: you are SOOOOOOOO wrong

The award is for the whole Europa (also including Panasonic, Samsung etc..) and Siemens was the only winner. There were 1500 competitors.

Read the press release over again and you will see...

Posted by: Synncere

Molna is right... it was for the entire Europe. That's neither here nor there though... the bottom line is Siemens s55 ROcks! Lets just all toast to that. A great mobile device and for those of us who own let's continue to enjoy it and for those thinking of purchasing it... it's a great fone! Has everything you could ever want in a mobile. Well my 2 and 1/2 cents. See ya in the forums.

All I can say is, I can't wait to dive headfirst into the features of this phone. I will never have spent so much for a phone, but I figure, with as much time as I've spent here learning about the latest and greatest, why the hell not and not live a little?

Posted by: Synncere

@rrypma------ You'll love yourself for it.... trust me!

Posted by: rrypma

There you go again, gettin me all hot and bothered about this damn phone. As I would be a new T-mobile subscriber, would you suggest getting the T68 from Amazon, selling it on Ebay and getting the s55 at retail? Or, is there a retailler that sells the s55 w/ some sort of new subscriber rebate... I'm willing to wait to get the best deal, but I'd like to get the ball rolling, and I don't want to purchase this thing at retail without some sort of subsidy. Thanks for your posts....

Posted by: Synncere

@ rrypma----- How much are you willing to spend on a fone? If you're waiting for a subsidy on a mobile you may wanna wait 'til the s56 is released. I hear Cingular will carry it and not AT&T but I don't know how true that is. If that's the case you can always get it unlocked once you get it. If you want to get the s55 now then you can search the web... There are some people that bought it for just under $400 USD... you can also check the B/S/T forum and see if anyone is selling on there. Hope that helps

Posted by: rrypma

Sorry, for trampling on this thread.. but, I just came back from T-mobile and those idiots told me to read the fine print on those famed Amazon rebates, as they are only good for credits and not cash back. Well, that's just not the case, so I ordered the t68i at subsidized price and will promptly list it on ebay. So, I will also be ordering the s55 soon somewhere. Thanks for your help.

Posted by: Synncere

Fine Print.... gotta hate it! This is why they call it "fine print" and not: "Now to really piss you off"

Posted by: [MDS]

still, the award is for the design... i mean no matter how nice the phone is (i got mine today and i love it...) you have to admit that P800 is more feature packed and all that... i mean its the best phone to use everyday, i love it...

but samsung s300 wins my vote still... for the screen and such...
but i will be using my s55 (retired my t68i)... however, now i see this 5100 which is not feature packed like s55... but it looks soooo cool. all rubbery and water proof with sound meter and termometer and a flashlight.... i might just drift there... but unlikely... siemens is the best (most reliable, best build, best flash opportunity) manufacturer.....

anyway, i am playing with my new toy now... (btw, got it for 381 + 2nd day ups) great price, great value....

Posted by: Synncere

P800 is okay... too big and I wouldn't say it's too functional for the average mobile fone user. Anyway you slice it the s55 is the uncrowned king of mobiles out at this moment. I think the s300 is nicer than the s105 and s100... I'm sure Samsung users will like it better dual color screens and smaller but I am convinced that any s105, s100, V205 and S300 who uses a s55 for a week would make the switch. My 2 and a half cents

Posted by: NL4J

P800 is a total different category of phone.

Imagine when Siemens comes out with their PDA/Phone. I am 100% sure I will get one as soon as it comes out

Look at Siemens ... their cordless phones are awesome. GIGASET BABY Their support is awesome. I don't know why, but Nokia is past for me now that I have the S55. My 6100 is sitting in the box.

Not to mention I have the S300 sitting in the box also. It didn't impress me at all ... it's just a color screen toy with loud ringers and disco lights on the flip cover. No offense. Sorry Im obessed with the S55.

Its just great. The way the menu is, the ammount of stuff you can do to it, customize, delete, add, save, voice everything, its perfect. If only Samsung had done this to the S300 MENU ...

So would a lot of nokia-users I think. But the problem is that they don't have the guts to even try a Siemens, because they think that their friends would make fun about their phone because it isn't a nokia. How brainwashed can people be??

They just don't know what they're missing.

Posted by: Synncere

@ Ocmer------ i agree with you!! Cheers my friend!

Posted by: hardtarget35

Yup...S55 is a sexy phone...love the size!

Posted by: Synncere

BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: NL4J

Buy it and then scream I wish I never bought the Nokia 6100! Kinda like I did when I got the S55

Posted by: Synncere

lol

Posted by: NL4J

This post is for everyone that has the S55

After using the following:

1) Nokia 6100 / Nokia 7210 / Nokia 7250

2) Samsung SGH-S300 / Samsung V200

3) Panasonic GD55/GD-88

4) Siemens SL55 (I am keeping it ... yes its a cool phone)

And which one am I using now?

S55

Just wanted to bump this thread again. The S55 is the best phone available.
When I mean BEST it just can't be beat.
Size, features, the way it looks, so many options, everything can be customized.
I love this phone! I won't be getting rid of it again!

for all veteran S55 users

Posted by: andrew2k3

i also have a s55 and agree it is one sweeet phone!
but the things i dont like is it only has 1mb of internal memory wich is not sufficient for picture taking, and a 256 color screen, other than that i love this phone alot, if it had expandable memory and a 65k screen... i would be in heaven..lol
thats why i am considering getting a nokia 3650, i like the screen quality and the fact that u can upgrade memory...

I agree with you ocmer. I was once an avid Nokia user until I switched to Siemens. S40 was the first (I know it's a Bosch but it was still pretty good) and now I'm on the S55. Just the feel of it in one's hand screams quality.

I believe Nokia used to make good phones but at some point, they just started turning out expensive toys that pretty much did the same thing. I think they still do.

I'm trying to get my sister to convert (a Nokia follower). Not that there's anything wrong with it per se but with the money she spends on a phone, I think it's better that she tries out a Siemens. I'm sure she won't be disappointed.

People like Nokia because of the following:

1) They do have great/user friendly phones (very easy MENUS)

2) They are all easy to use

3) Parts available everywhere/cheap

TALK ABOUT BORING though ...

Posted by: normandelli

Their menus are more like "idiot-proof" than easy. Hehe. Kidding.

Seriously though, I think it's really all just a matter of familiarity. What may seem as a maze of deeply embedded and confusing menus in the beginning will turn out to be a breeze to navigate with some practice. Such is the case with all phones.

Posted by: NL4J

Well yes, but the Siemens S55 MENU requires a little bit more "knowledge" than the usual NOKIA menu ... "idiot proof" that's perfect. I'll stick with that

Posted by: Curious_George

I think siemens brought their own award, I don't think siemens phone are that great

Posted by: evolution921

Nokia is like Honda and Siemens is like Nissan.

People likes Honda more than Nissan although Nissan have better specs than Honda.
