Should I Sell My 2125 When I Know It Has The Sticking Key Issue

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My 3125 will arrive tomorrow ... anxious to say the least. Anyway, I have a 2125 that is in excellent condition (minus a scuff where it was dropped a few feet). I have sold some things on eBay before and am always careful to report the item exactly as it is. As we all know, the last ROM release for the 2125 (the one where push e-mail was added) all but crippled the phone as far as text entering due to the software-imposed key sticking issue.

My question is, can I sell this thing on eBay with a clear conscience (though Cingular and HTC's conscience must be clear to not have released a fix) to someone knowing it has this issue?

Sounds like you are looking for somebody to give you permission to ignore your conscience.

Well, however you want to look at it. Ha!

But seriously, not that you did not make the topic more serious than I meant for it to be, how do other 2125 owner's feel about selling their old 2125?

Do you suppose new 2125 phones currently sold have the latest ROM? I would think so.

Does the OP feel some moral dilemma selling their phone so equipped?

Using Microsoft-ese, the "sticking key issue" is a feature.

There is not much of a moral dilema here. Anyone who buys a new 2125 right now WILL get one with the sticky key issue - I did. Go ahead and sell it. If you want more of a warm and fuzzy feeling, you can tell the customer about the sticky key issue, letting the buyer know that it is a software issue that HTC might fix with a future update, and that new 2125 units have the exact same problem.

Wirelessly posted (Nokia 6620: HTC-3100/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; Smartphone; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

I wonder if Cingular would XBM a 3125 for the problem?

I had the sticky issue after I installed the latest Cingular ROM. So, I installed a different ROM, the i-Mate SP5 and the sticky issue went away (see http://vdov.net/index.php/2006/04/369).

However, I experienced a problem with the joystick on the iMate ROM, so I reinstalled the latest Cingular recommended ROM again. Now everything is good, even the sticky text problem is gone.

Try reinstalling the Cingular ROM again and see if that helps. If not, you may want to try what I did - i-Mate ROM then Cingular ROM.

I can't see that there's ANY logic in this ROM plan?

Maybe not man, but I assume it's similar to installing XP and having issues afterwards. A new reinstall of XP sometimes will solve those problems. Something just goes wrong with the upgrade.

All I know to tell you is after I installed the new Cingular ROM, I had the sticky key issue that everyone refers to. A reinstall solved the problem - logical or not. Spock

I don't see how reinstalling can help, because even the new 2125 phones from HTC are having the sticky key problem with the ROM straight from the factory.

Me either. All I know is, I have the new ROM and I don't have sticky keys. Texting works perfect - just like it did with the old ROM.
