Ideas needed for Freeware utility or small app

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: iforevans

So, I'm at a loose end for a week (maybe a little longer) having just finished the new version of Sniper.

I thought maybe I'd write a small utility (freeware) and then realized I have no idea what would really be a useful one.

So, I'm canvasing for ideas.

If you've got an idea for a utility that you'd really like to see please post

*HERE*

Cheers

A Yahoo messenger would be nice or even aim. For smartphone.

You should try Agile Mobile, it has Yahoo, AIM, MSN, Jabber, GoogleTalk, and something else...

He said Freeware tho. But thanks for the link anyway, I might give it a try being that the price is very cheap.

Something to automatically put your tasks on the homepage would be awesome...in the list with the profile, sms notifications, calendar etc...that is the absolute missing link on WM5

Not going to join another site just to follow a link, so I'll post here. I would love to see a rock solid copy/paste app. There are couple of options now, one of which is free, but I have been unable to get it to work no matter how hard I try. A copy/paste app with a .exe that can be run from the PC and load the app, that has a simple interface and again is stable, would be great.

If you use the Agile Alpha version 3 for WM2003se and WM2005, it is free and from my use it is functional.

Copy/paste app? Not a bad idea. How would you see it working?

An app for the Cingualr 3125 so you can make and take calls on speakerphone with the flip closed.

This may also be useful for the MPX2?? phones as well.

I've been thinking about writing this one but SiriusWM5 has me pretty busy at the moment.

Phone calls recorder / answering machine for WM2003SE smartphones would be good idea (or based in general on .NET1 mobile framework - if it has to be based on .NET - so it would work on smartphones with WM2003 and WM2005 and probably any future WM versions as well... )

BTW - posting on one forum and asking for replies on another forum is not nice... smells like cryptoadvertising

How about an app that records calls. I've tried and bought AudioNotes, but it seriously screwed up my phone and the developer hasn't bothered to fix it. You said free, but I'd be happy to pay or donate if it worked.

Tried aglie Messenger, it doesn't connect have the time. It also give me problem when trying to send a pic. When it does connect its just average. Also it's very slow when loading and connecting.

Pocket Messenger works just fine, so I know it's not a connection problem.

To put tasks on the homepage you can get oxios tasks plugin.

You can get copy/paste from iMenu (I think it works on wm5).

Agile won't work on T-Mobile if you just have T-Zones, they block many of the needed ports.

MPX220 (and possibly 200) already let you use speakerphone with the flip closed. Just not answer while it's closed.

I agree with DereX888 and arw2, a program to record calls would be nice. While there is Personal Mobile Recorder it's wm5 only leaving us luddites out in the cold.

So, the one I have decided on, is to write a small APP to create, edit and generally manage PlayLists for Windows Media Player. As we're all aware WMPs abilities are limited in that respect.

And, I know you can sysnc with your PC but it would be nice to be independ when travelling.

So, in the next few days I'll be asking for BETA testers

I am sorry if people think this is "crypto-advertising" but its my *home* forum and I AM writing and giving this app away for free!

Hey mate,

I meant to ask, I tried the Alpha on my C550, no joy it just exits everytime I try to connect, so I am stuck using the 2002 version which connects fine but isn't QVGA.

Did you have to do anything special to get it to work?

How about an app that is a Task Scheduler. Meaning that you have a program that runs, that will start or preform certain tasks at user set times. Not that it is a factor at this point, but just for examples sake, you have spybot mobile installed, and you want it to automatically run every Wednesday at 11pm. It would be great if you could do that with about any program or function (i.e. reset the phone, etc). I know that there are programs that will allow you to have set times for profile changes, reset the phone, or apply flight mode, but there aren't any task schedulers out there that I know of, and nothing that does any of this that is free. Thanks...

BTW: I didn't do anything special at all with Agile, I just installed it and it ran perfectly. I am just glad that I can have MSN and GTalk on my phone together now along with yahoo and icq.

Great Idea. I was surprised to find how weak the Windows Media app is for playlists. Love to try it when you are done!!

Posted by: genaldar

There is an app to create and manage wmp playlists available at airfagev. It's called playlist manager 2003 (but I'm pretty sure it works on wm5). It's free. It's only problem is it doesn't make the playlists so you have to open it and then tell it to open the playlist with wmp.

Of course you can also make them in tcpmp.

Posted by: LIVEFRMNYC

How about something like a "System Restore" app. Or at least a "REG Backup" app.

HARD RESETTING SUCKS!!!!

Posted by: DereX888

genaldar is right. Ray Vegafria wrote playlist manager long time ago.
And exactly - nothing beats *normal* playlist support in TCPMP
how about this idea: those using WMP should write petition to microsoft to start supporting normal playlists in their WMP (as all other player programs do) instead of obfuscating such simple task as playlist... What a waste of resources and manpower...

gryph0n - excellent idea with Task Scheduler!
