Do I need to to format my 2GB MiniSD prior to using it on my 8125?

I just purchased a TopRam 2GB MiniSD Card for my 8125. It came with a USB card reader too. I'm pretty new to all this, so I was wondering what steps do I need to take (if any), before I can use this card? Do I just put it into the device and start using it, or do I need to format it?

format it in windows first and then stick it in the device
