Transferring files from desktop to Pearl via bluetooth/usb

So I'm another BB newbie, got my Pearl last week and I'm waiting for my micro SD card to arrive in the mail. In the meantime, I wanted to transfer files (mp3 for ringtones, etc..) via either bluetooth or usb, but I can't get either to work.

-I am able to send files from my phone to my desktop via bluetooth, but not vice versa. I always get a "transfer failed" message.

-device manager cannot detect my phone via usb. When I pulg the mini usb cable into my phone, the little charge symbol appears so I know they're connected, but desktop manager isn't finding my phone (always some variation of "device not found" or "device not connected").

Anyone have any knowledge on this?

Thanks.

to recieve throught BT. you have to make a connection through the pearl to the PC first so the pearl has it as a recognized device. after that, depending on what you want to send(pic, ringtone, music) you have to first go to the multimedia icon on the pearl. then go to the appropriate folder and press the menu key. there you see an option "recieve from Bluetooth" pick that then go ahead and transfer as normal through your PC.

as for usb you would have to wait until you get your Memory card in order to transfer anything because the PC has to recognize your phone as a "Mass Storage Device" in order for it to work.

also a quick tip when you get the card put it in the Pearl first and format it so it creates the appropriate folders for the files.

i know all this first hand cuz i had to go trough it so if you dont get the instructions right away, read what i wrote and play with the phone you'll understand the mess i wrote eventually

Haha yes thanks for the swift reply. I am in the middle of my first bluetooth transfer.

Why the hell wouldn't that bit of info be in the user's manual? I swear I'd be lost without this board.

yea i know what u mean. good thing i give the phones a full test drive the first day i get them(too bad for this one i lost it on the 2nd day) cuz some things aren in the book and then you just have to fiddle with it until you get it to work right.

as long as it's a 1gb or less card, i heard the pearl doesn't support the 2gb micro sd cards
