8125: How do you turn off the phone?

I recently went to London, Ontario on a vacation.. I called Cingular before hand to make sure everything is OK since I was going to another country. I was told no problems, Canada isn't considered another country..

The next month's phone bill was over $750! I guess the lady I spoke to was wrong, because it was all roaming charges.. I called them back and they said everytime I cross a state/country border, I need to turn my phone off and back on so I'll be on the local cingular network and not roaming..

How do you turn off the phone part of the 8125?

Couple of ways...

You can either press and hold the power button until it asks you to confirm shutting off the device itself.

Or slightly easier than doing all that is to simply tap the part of the screen that shows your signal strength, and you'll notice in the box that appears mention of flight mode. Turn flight mode on, that shuts the actual radio portion of the phone off while leaving the device itself still powered on.

Simply repeat the process to turn flight mode off.

Tap on the Signal meter and tap Flight Mode, this turns off the GSM Radio and Bluetooth

Oh its definately roaming...minimum .59 per minute if you have the "World Traveler" feature.... http://www.cingular.com/media/roaming_gen

Back when I had Nextel (before Sprint) Canada wasn't roaming....don't know if thats still the case with Nextel or not.
