Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I've had this thing for a week. The paint on the top chrome part is peeling! This whole phone is made pd cheap plastic. Also the battery cover is bowing! I really like this phone and would have been willing to pay more if they actually made it out of metal or something! Just very dissspointed.

Yeah, I kinda feel that way but havnt had the problems you've had. Just feel the build is kinda poor. I do like how its alot light than most phones I;ve used that are made of metal, IE RAZR, SLVR etc... I take great care of my phones though so hpoefully won't have anything to bad happen. Once they start selling skins for this phone it'll be great.

Had the phone for 4 weeks - NO problems. Great quality, one of the best I have ever had and I had a lot. Can highly recommend it.

The new Blackberrys are not built anything like the older 75XX series. They used to be robust and rugged but even my older 8700c feels flimsy compared to what my 7520 felt like. I am sure the even newer Blackberrys are going to be worst.

New job at work is allowing me to resurrect my 7290 and be reimbursed for company use. I'm ecstatic. I do like the 8700g for EDGE, it's screen and better RF..but the 7290's keyboard will always rule and the thing is a TANK!

I agree with Greg. I was very surprised at how cheap the GF's 8100 feels. I thought the 8700g was a cheap POS. The 8100 is cheaper still RIM knows that businesspeople (it's primary customers up to now..making generalization here) aren't treating it's phones harshly. So they figure they can build them less stoutly and get away with it and make more money. This will only get worse unless they receive some really bad press about this cheap trend they are on.

I don't think we will be seeing devices with the build quality of the 72xx/75xx series in the future

I agree, it is like they changed supplier or something.

I can not for the life of me figure out why RIM would introduce the 8100 with so many shiney surfaces. These devices would look better longer with more matte surfaces.

People will still get it no matter what...

I dont think my Pearl feels cheap or flimsy. at least not compared to some of the other phones I've used in the past.
