I went through the process to obtain an ERP Line, and it kicked me out with an email saying that they had found an old account that I had that was charged off. Says I have to pay them 300$ and some odd change to be clear and be eligible for an ERP line.

But if it was charged off I don't see why I gots ta pay it

So..just checkin with my fellow Cingular peeps to see if any of you know a way around this. probably not, but hey its worth a shot.

Charged Off = Sent to Collections.

Means you still owe it.

When a company charges off an account, they're effectively removing it from the books - they're saying that they aren't going to expend any more effort to collect because they don't want to send good money after bad. But it doesn't make the obligation go away.

It's sort of like loaning a guy 5 bucks. If he moves away before he pays you back, are you going to go to another state to get it back? Probably not. But if he swings by for a visit, maybe you'll ask him to pay you back. I know - analogies suck, but that's the general idea, anyway.

Bite the bullet and make arrangements to pay up, I guess. Me, I wouldn't want to have a bad debt to my employer hanging over my head!
