Not at all. This prompt tells you how to enter sim unlock code so you can use the phone with any GSM provider.Of course you need to get unlock code for your phone from Cingular.

Somebody finally figured out how to do this. Wow, people have been asking for this for months starting way back with the CU320. Do you think it will work with that phone as well?

Posted by: ropucha66

I don't know.Maybe somebody with cu320 could try it?

Bell Mobility uses the same 6 digit security code for all its Motorola E815's. I had to pull the subsidy lock with my data cable and proper software, but it's not unheard of that a lock code could be the same across phones.

It says enter NCK, 5 attempts left. Is this what we want I never herad of NCK.

This was hard to find information? Any Cingular rep who has access to CSP couldve found this lol... Heres the exact process:

Quote:
1 Insert non-Cingular SIM card
2 Power on the handset
- phone will display "Invalid SmartChip"
3 In Idle screen, enter 159753#*#
- phone will display "Enter NCK, Remaining 5"
4 Enter the 8 digit SIM Unlock code
5 Select "OK"
- the handset is now successfully unlocked

Pretty much the same, but thats direct from Cingular.

EDIT: For those who dont know, "Remaining 5" means you have 5 chances to type in the correct code. If you enter it wrong 5x in a row, the phone will be locked forever, and cant be undone.

So where were you when people tried all the instructions given by Cingular and were bounced between LG and Cingular-this has been going on for a while and nobody seemed to have an answer.

Posted by: bradam2001

So 159753#*# is the unlock code for all cu500 phones ?
And it does work before I try it tonight ?

Posted by: ropucha66

It is not a unlock code!It is the shortcut to bring on the screen allowing you to enter your unique unlock code(obtained from Cingular).

here's a quick way to get them to do it for you:

-call customer care and have them add pay as you go international calling plan on your phone (you wont be charged anything unless you use it and you can have it removed later on)

-wait a week and call customer care again, tell them you have pay as you go international on your phone because you travel alot but some places you dont get cingular services, so you would like the subsidy unlock code for your phone in order to use it in these places.

-after you get the code wait another week and call to remove pay as you go international calling ( you dont really have to since they dont charge you anything if you dont use it but for peace of mind you might want to take it off)

I travel out of the country anyway and use a sims card where I go.

This was in another group. Seems like they found the answer to this problem

This worked and got the code in 2 days.

there`s another way to get the unlock code besides cingular....

thanks

I got my unlock code for both my Sync and my wife's Sync when I had only been a customer for 3 weeks....right before Xmas. They gave me the unlock codes about as fast as I could read off the IMEIs.....

I told them I was leaving for Europe next week... can I unlock my phones so I can use them over there? He didn't make me add any kind of crazy plan. Why would they? I was going to be using a different SIM!!?

I'm not sure why people are asking for international anything, can someone tell me why that would be necessary?

Posted by: tuxp3

The international calling package makes the story seem much more believable, rather then just flat out asking for the code with a lame excuse.

Either way tho, It doesn't seem like they will give people a hard time, I'm gonna try soon. (just got the cu500v last week, i like it a lot.)
