How are you trying to load the ringtone? Also are you storing the ringtone on the Pearl or on a memory card? The tone also has to be in the ringtone folder otherwise it won't work.

ah ok. i'm gonna try it out later...
but actually which specific folder u have to put in phone's memory? and is there a size limit? also is it possible that rogers blocks the function of setting mp3 files as ringtone?
thnx

as soon as i got mine i put on 5 ringtones. i would say you should cut up your mp3's as there's no way an entire song will play when someone calls you.

search the web for "mp3 cutter" there's always free trial versions. cut your mp3 up...save it in a folder on your desktop...plug your pearl into your pc...and your desktop manager should open up, from there all you have to do is pick your files and put it in your media card folder under ringtones..not music.

There is no DRM block for MP3 ringtones on the Rogers 8100 or on the 8100 in general at all. As hiokispunja stated try cutting your ringtone size. I use Audacity which is free to make my own ringtones.

You'd be surprised how many people do. The average consumer in general will pay for them because they don't know they can make them or they don't know how or they have a crippled fone or one that has DRM and they are forced to purchase them. Then eventually they find HoFo and then learn that there is another way.

While we're on the ringtone question.
I have just gotten a Pearl. Loaded some of my favourite MP3 ringtones, and while they work okay, it seems that they get cut off midway. I am used to cutting the tones to 30sec. most other phones. Am I safe to assume that the Pearl requires tones even shorter?

Also, am I the only one who thinks the ringer is too quiet?

Posted by: Synncere

My ringtones are all 30-45 seconds in length and they play fine. They do get cut off if my voicemail kicks in. Usually I will get roughly the entire tone depending if I have vibe on or off. If I have vibe on it will always play less of the tone as it vibes first. Volume wise I don't find mine silent at all. You can always use a free tool such as Audacity to tweek your tones and amplify them if you wanted to.

ive cut mines up using adobe audition, and loaded them using the datacable, they play fine..

How long should i make the ring tone on my bb pearl if i have it set to vibe once and let it ring a few times?

Any suggestions? What do you guys use as an appropriate length?

I have a few that are full songs...about 4+ mins and they're working fine as ringtones for me. And no...I dont know if it plays the entire song or not cause I always pick it up before then.

Posted by: Synncere

It wouldn't play the entire the song.

You know one of the solutions I've found that I've never quit using? Itunes. If you use Itunes as frequently as your default as I do, there is an option to make shorter clips or clips from second xx to second xx of your songs in the information/options part of the song when you right-click on teh song. You can change the time then convert it into mp3. It's sooo easy. I loev telling people about it. Why would you want to buy clips of ringtones that you can't even pick the part of the song you'd like to have play? Any questions, feel free to ask. I have a brand new BB courtesy of Darkrift I LOVE IT!

I have no problem making my own ring tones...however, they only play for about 4 seconds and repeat the first few seconds over and over with a pause. i have searched my blackberry pearl in vain for some setting that allows you to make the ringtone longer, but to no avail...

what can i do? i want to import my own ring tones, which i can clip and edit to my own heart's content, and even create my own. This is a frustrating development, as i can hear all other phones play much longer clips. if you can help - that would be amazing!

I have the exact same problem. The ringtones I put in only get 4 seconds of play time and then it repeats itself. My service provider is AT&T if that makes any difference. Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

I use a program called Audacity to make my own mp3 ringtones. The tones I made for my Pearl when I was using it I then used with my 8800 and now with my 8300 and they work just fine. They're about 30 seconds in length and I have never had any issues where it only plays 4 seconds then repeats itself.

me again , also does the bb have capabililties to assign ringtones to a specific caller , and if so where the heck at?

Hey Sar,

In your contacts, just click menu, then EDIT when you're highlighted on the person's name. When you're in the EDIT menu, where you'd normally make changes to the contact, you can press the menu button again, and "ADD CUSTOM PHONE TUNE" is an option. At this point, you need to have the mp3 into your phone via the desktop program. Once they're in there and you'd like to change them, they appear the bottom of the EDIT list for my contacts. Questions? Just ask
