BRAND NEW!! Samsung Codes!! No Data Cable Required!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: dominic241

That’s right all you hofoers out there, I believe that I have finally accomplished/ found out every single hidden menu/secret code there is to the Samsung a950! I would also like to note that since these SEEM to be Samsung codes that these codes might work on the a930/a970/a990.(or not hotwired confrim..looks by far that is a950 only) So for those of you with a Samsung a930, a970, and a990...I need your help to report back and tell me if the following codes work for you! I have confirmed that some of these codes work on the a850, but not all. DISCLAIMER: AS ALWAYS I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE WHATSOEVER FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT YOU MAY INCUR ON/TO YOUR PHONE. Anyway without further a do...
The Samsung-Verizon Codes/Hidden Menus!

Hidden Menu Enable/Disable code (without requiring the Samsung PST Lite software)
On the main screen of your Samsung a950 enter the following code:
1475369126874#*
This will allow you to enable/disable the hidden menu, on the go, without requiring any computer. This is kind of a master code so MOST of the following codes may/may not work if you do not have the Hidden Menu option set to "Enable".

Enable Cable DUN options, also known as phone tethering
This code allows you to toggle between DUN options without use of the Samsung PST Lite software. Please note to follow the directions of this code carefully otherwise, IT WILL NOT WORK.
On the main screen of your phone enter the code:
##3328873
and press the green SEND key. A screen will appear with the words
"User Lock." Enter 000000. By pressing the "OK" key you can toggle between the following options:
Device Information
Another New code that I have found out that seems to tell you information about your phone...nothing special, but its there....
from the main screen enter the following code:
#43574357*
This should bring up the "Device Information" Menu where you can browse
"1. System Info" Your MIN, ESN, SID, NID, Channel (CDMA 800/1900MHz) and Battery.
"2.Version" Your S/W, H/W, PRL, ERI, Browser Info, and BREW Info
"3.Capability" Language, Types of Data/Messages supported and your Technology (CDMA 1x digital, Dual Mode, EvDo...etc.)
..That’s it...again nothing special inside, but if you want to take a look, and if you a930/a970/a990 users have anything different that might be of interest...please tell us.

Maltrace Log Enable/Disable
Alright let me start of by saying that I have no idea whatsoever what this is supposed to do, I have connected it to the PST...accessed other hidden menus, allover the phone, and it does not enable/disable anything as far as I know of..and I believe it’s probably just for Verizon/Samsung Customer Representatives to maybe trace info off the phone is some sort of way that only they know of. Anyway, if anyone figures out what it might do....please tell me.
To "Enable" Maltrace Log
On the main screen of your Samsung phone enter
78274283*741
The "MALTRACE LOG ENABLED" menu will pop-up, you can press OK to continue, or it will be gone by itself in about 2 seconds.

To "Disable" Maltrace Log"
On the main screen of your Samsung phone enter
78274283*740
The "MALTRACE LOG DISABLED" menu will pop-up you can press OK to continue or it will be gone by itself in about 2 seconds.
Alright...now I'm just going to review some codes here that have been discussed before on HowardForums but since the Hidden Menu can now be enabled without use of a data cable and a computer, I thought it might be good to show how to access WAP Settings, GetItNow, MP3 Enabled Menu...etc.
Wap Settings
To access WAP Settings, please have the Hidden Menu option set to "Enabled" above then:
Access your "GetItNow" main menu. In this menu press the "#" key and enter your Lock Code (most commonly your last 4 digits of your phone number, unless you changed it within the Security Menu)
Here you can access you Browser Settings, which you can use a different alternative internet WAP service provider to Verizon's MobileWeb 2.0, with the Settings provided by the alternative WAP service provider. I recommended using one of the following, since they seem to be the 2 most popular WAP service providers/redistributors on HowardForums...
Access the Hidden Menu to Enable MP3 Menu Item, as well as a GetItNow Test, and Brew Information
To access the "GetItNow Hidden Menu(s)", please have the Hidden Menu option set to "Enabled" above then:
Access your "GetItNow" main menu. In this menu press the "0" key and enter your Lock Code (most commonly your last 4 digits of your phone number, unless you changed it within the Security Menu)
There should be 3 menu options (please note that this is for the Samsung a950, as the a930 and a990 seem to have the menu moved elsewhere)
"1. PEK Test" This just brings you to a minimal version of GetItNow, a test version.
"2.Brew Info" Brew Information about your phone...and since BREW 2.0 has not been hacked yet, the information here is somewhat useless.
"3. MP3 Menu Item" Here you can "Enable" the MP3 Menu on your a950. Select Enable from the menu, and the OK button...your phone should be reset...The following new options are created:
Access the MMS Settings Menu
To access the "GetItNow Hidden Menu(s)", please have the Hidden Menu option set to "Enabled" above then:
Access your "Messaging" main menu.
Select "Settings" then press the "*" key...please enter the corresponding codes for your phone model:
A950: 950667
A970: 970667
A990: 990667
A870: 870667
Please also note...that I have only tested this code on the A950 only, so it may vary if it'll work on the other phone models posted. You should also be able to access this menu with other Samsung phones by just putting your 3-digit model number of your phone, in front of the 667.
Here you can access all MMS information available, and you can change it freely to enjoy free Pix/Flix messages. If someone would like to write a tutorial about how to set this up using a free MMS server or create one of your own...please be my guest, but refer back to this thread for information on how to access the menu, as I would like to see what phone models, this menu is accessible on. Thank you.

Service Programming Menu
The Hidden Menu does not have to be "Enabled" to access this menu.
To access this menu go to the "Settings & Tools" main menu, and press "*".
Enter 000000...this will bring you to your service programming menu where you can access your ESN #, call quality enhancement, and Network Settings...etc.
THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS MENU...THIS CAN ENABLE YOUR PHONE NON-FUNCTIONAL SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL, AND TAKE NOTE TO THE DISCLAIMER ABOVE.
Press Exit to leave the menu, and your phone will reset

System Info Menu
The Hidden Menu does not have to be "Enabled" to access this menu.
Press “#" in the "Settings & Tools" main menu.
Enter 000000...this will bring you to the System Info Menu where you can access different menus, that in most usefulness allow for better voice quality...please refer to other threads, or send me a PM about this.
Now while in this menu press "0" or you can select the "Bluetooth" option and press "0"...either way in brings you to the same options.
Enter the following User Lock code:
8886573982
This will bring up the "PARAM EDITOR" where only the "Build Version" option is able to be accessed. On other phone models though there have been reports that "SYSINFO Editor" and "USERPREFS Editor" can be accessed, and this may be useful to you.

Phone Debug Menu
The Hidden Menu does have to be "Enabled" to access this menu.
This code has been talked about throughly here...
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=914759
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLLOWING CODE CAN COMPLETELY REBUILD YOUR PHONE AND YOU MAY LOSE ALL DATA. Please read the thread above to find out more.
On the main screen enter
47*68#13580
The best way to exit this menu is to remove the battery, since the codes stated in the thread above may be different with your phone model..so if you have everything backed up and have got nothing to lose, you may mess around with this menu freely the way you want to.

Miscellaneous
Alright I believe that’s it...If you find a new code please state it in the thread below or you may send me a PM or if that is full drop me a message at "donotsendmespama950help@gmail.com (please remove the "donotsendmespam" area...it is a safety precaution to disallow misuse of this e-mail address)
This e-mail address is available to all Samsung-Verizon phone users, please have the Subject when you send as e-mail as "I need help with my Samsung XXXX" and place the model number in the "X" area. disregarding to do this may have your message set as spam...and also I will not accept any attachments. No exceptions. I will not always be available so please be patience for a response. Thank You!

Oh..and one last thing...if you care to share this elsewhere, on another forum, or to give to a website as instructions on how to enable something please say where you found it...it took me an extremely long time to figure all this out...and it was a lot of hard work, I thank you for your common courtesy.

"Hidden Menu Enable/Disable code (without requiring the Samsung PST Lite software)
On the main screen of your Samsung a950 enter the following code:
1475369126874#*
"
What do you do after you enter these numbers? It doesn't do anything.

Cool..tell me everything that works...and what doesn't work... (just what codes do work, don't need to tell me what are in the menus...unless its something really cool and of utmost importnace...like Bluetooth OBEX?)

ACK!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS? It should pull up a Hidden Menu automatically with Enable/Disable...oh well there goes the a990...

Device Information...
#43574357*

OK this one works on the a990. So there is hope lol. (darn it) I want my MMS... sike!

Posted by: dominic241

Okay..the device info thing...yeah, not sure if thats going to help...I think all Samsung-Verizon phones should be able to access that...but the master hidden menu code is the wholly glory of it all....

Posted by: hotwired

This is done on the main screen, right? Are your numbers right? Shouldn't it start with # or * instead of 1?

Nope...I have my a950 right in front of me and it is correct..I double-checked all the codes to make sure they are correct...

Posted by: hotwired

Oh well... I tried it with the a930 too but to no avail. I guess we do need a PST for the a990.

or a f/w dump...That would be a nice way to get a hold of bluetooth...

Okay...let me tell you...I took one day(alright all-in-all it took weeks for me to actuall find all the codes) to search the firmware dump we had on the a950...and boy did it talk a extremely long time for me to find alll this and get it to work...I've had some of the codes for a little while but some of the other codes were a alot harder to find...they were buried very deep in the firmware, and I had to search pages and pages for special keywords and codes....but eventually I found most of them just clumped up together in one spot, and well the codes worked...thanks.

Posted by: PeterB

"hidden code" 1475369126874*# isnt working on an 850 or 870 here..

Id like to be able to master reset these as there is no way to blank the phonebook

Yeah I've already confirmed that only the Dvice Info seems to work on the A850...sadly it seems the same for the a870 apparently...

What did you look for exactly? I have some other phone's firmware I want to look for..

Excellent! Since I can't use PST on this computer, this is most appreciated! Who says having too much time on your hands is a Bad Thing? (g,d&r)

Dominic, how exactly did you search through the firmware? Was it by hex editing it? Give us the low down, maybe this knowledge will lead to further hacks. I mean, the way i see it the more we know about the firmware the closer we are to being able to change the UI and whatnot.

U are god. If you can get this working on the a990 you are... I don't even know what to say... amazing!

just a simple hex editor...all I did was seacrh for the text 8886573982, and right beneath it was the MMS code, and then I just randomly (out of luck) scrolled a few pages and stopped and there were the other codes...it was just luck really that I happened to find it...but it took me a while to work everything out...

I know this is off-topic, but ima ask it anyway.

Has anyone noticed all these entries in the firmware that are like these:

s:\drivers\lcd\msm6500\s6b30_a950.c
s:\msm6500\services\efs\fm_wrapper.c
s:\drivers\lcd\msm6500\s6d0118a.c

Those are just the directories that i pulled out of the firmware, some of them have more text after them (seperated usually by a null character).

Its been a long time since I've used C, but if im not mistaken i believe files with extension .c are either C or C++ files (more likely C).

Do we know what these files are used for, or better yet, where exactly this directory is pointing to. I sure as hell dont have an S drive on my computer.

That's most likely the string table in the compiled binary. C compilers (.c is a C file) usually replace the macro "__FILE__" with the source file name. The firmware developers used this macro in their code (for debugging or logging purposes), and thus the filenames are included in the binary. Whoever compiled the firmware evidently had an 's:' drive.

if i were to get mobile web with like HN proxy or somthing, would it still be airtime free to use it? or is that only verizon mobile web

Posted by: MikeG~

MobileWeb isn't airtime free unless you have also have VCast, but whether alternate proxy browsing is also airtime-free with VCast, I don't know.

Posted by: 33proof

This is really great. The 950 is a really nice little phone, better than the lg8300 and lg8100, IMO. Thanks alot!!!!!

How exactly do you rip the firmware off these phones? I've got an A990 and I'd love to get at its firmware. I was hoping that their might be a Samsung-generic way of ripping firmware from a phone.

I believe it is called a firmware dump. You would need the a990 pst dll. (This is the software verizon has on their computers at the store) This has to be leaked from verizon, and this hasn't happend yet. It has been leaked for the a950 however.

Posted by: cody666

The A950 PST kind works with a A970, so maybe it will work with a A990.

The only part that really only works is viewing some of the phone info, and enabling dun... thats about it.

Not possible to dump the firmware with any programs out there. It would have to be leaked onto the internet.

Posted by: dominic241

I've tried firmware dumpers for other Samsung phones...a Samsung GSM f/w downloader, and the farthest I ever got with it connecting to my a950, was getting it to reset and turn back on, I've tried countless of times....it has to be a Verizon-specific/CDMA Samsung f/w dumper...

Posted by: phantomtundra

the MMS thing doesn't work on my a950....

Posted by: guy121

Sweet, so I just tried out the DUN and it works great.

Anyone that doesn't know you can find the info in the sticky. Basically after set to x1, just setup a new dial up connection on your computer using Samsung CDMA modem. Then put in the #777 and your 10digitnumber as user. Then connect and BAM!

This is great for when I'm on the road and need to look up something like info on an item or directions on how to get somewhere.

How much cash ya give me to run into a verizon store and gank the service computer. That should give us everything we need....

Thats an unethcial way of doing it but, indeed effective...why not just try getting the keys to aa drawer, and see where the software discs are locked away....or maybe you can hide in a shipment of phones, and in the middle of the night spring up in the back of the Verixon store, and get us everything we need...

Posted by: hypercooljake

The software discs won't help much. The DLL files and software updates are pushed to the PCs over their network. Best bet is to find a friend that works at a Verizon store with a software update machine to copy the files.

well...yeah thats what I kind of meant...burning the software to the cd..I guess I worded my words incorrectly...I guess a usb drive would work as well..

Yeah, well lets do it. I can't believe that there isn't one Verizon Techie that visits this forum that would help us out. I mean hell, if I worked for Verizon I would be stealing crap left and right. It would be like a god damn shopping spree for internal software.

Not to mention, if the guy is scared he will lose his job then just distribute it to one of us and we will keep their identity anonymous. If its a non-employee who is distributing the software, what the hell is Verizon ganna do, fire them?

Your in luck! (sort of you'll still need a usb cable) I just hacked into the WAP settings (and BREW) on the a930. This is OT so I'll write up a guide and I will start a new thread.

Hotwire, what do you mean exactly by hacking BREW? Did you find the Test Bit and enable it? If you did get on that guide my friend, it will be very useful for everyone.

Posted by: hotwired

I haven't much time to tamper with it yet but YES I think I can enable the test bit. But don't hold on me on that yet. Looks like I also have access to the BREW server url settings and other BREW related parameters.

I don't have the time to search but has anybody got to this menu yet?

Hey guys, I know some codes work on my a850 but has anyone gotten the a950 PST to work with the a850? I can get it to read my phone info, but when I try and enable hidden menus, after typing in the ML code, it gives me an error.

No I can't. The BREW menu is locked for editing. So it was fun while it lasted. Sorry to burst your bubble on BREW people.

Posted by: bmull

Dont have to have data cable or do any BS converting files....LOL

Thanks again............. You guys are the king of cell phone knowledge.

I wondered when this would become a sticky. Congrats Dominic241!

I noticed that when you play an mp3 theres a diffrent player playing the songs. Is there a way to access it through the external buttons?

Menu-Settings and Tools-Tools-Shortcut Key-Play Key, chose My MP3s

Posted by: ponchuk

will this work on samsung a720. can it enable the blue tooth. let me know. a telus acct where everything is blocked.

Posted by: Hardcor3

the firmware dump or whatever would be needed for the a990unlock code. I asked the kid a vzw store for it, but he had no clue how to find it. He said that to do upgrades their program is automated. He will give it to me though...if I tell him how to do it. How might he find the appropriate file?? He knows it's something he shouldn't do, and doesn't care, God love 'em.

Posted by: tmansgc

We would need the pst dll file. This is the installer to the software verizon has on their upgrade PCs. Once you have that users here will be able to do a firmware dump and possibly find the codes within the firmware of the phone.

DUDE BEAUTIFUL!!! very very nice, very impresive. u must be a x-verizon worker, maybe not. if u have the time, or the info, think about a new thread that would tell u how to do kool stuff inside all of these hidden menu's.

Posted by: bongasaur

I found this list while browsing around the forums, I forgot who actually worked it out, and i strongly dont recomend you using this list of codes unless you know exactly what your're doing. I, like those few who came before me, bricked my phone... while tinkering around with this code. But for those of you out there who are willing to take this risk, always back up your stuff, and... dont get mad if you brick your phone too.

What about the SPH-A720? Any "leaks"? Hacks? UI changes? Custom tones?

Posted by: neurocide

Im a member over at cellphonehacks, and Ive just registered here and Ive gotta say, this is by far the best thread on the a950 yet. The thing that still ticks me off the most is how verizon disabled the bluetooth-computer connect. (its called obex, right?)

Anyway, GREAT thread.

In this forum we are talking about CDMA verizon samsung phones. (SCH)
If you want to find out info about a non verizon phone either go to the main samsung forum or your carriers forum.

Quick question, when Im changing all the WAP settings to a free proxy, I dont have to change the primary and secondary DNS settings do I?

All I have to change is the primary and secondary IP as well as the Home URL, correct?

Thanks.

Posted by: tmansgc

Don't touch secondary. Just change all the primary.

Thats the DNS primary too?

Posted by: neurocide

Ok, I belive I got this working now!!!

In the settings on my a950 I changed the primary ip to a free proxy I found on a proxy list, I left the primary DNS setting alone (whatever that is) but then when you go to the primary IP part> proxy IP used (it said no). So i got to thinking to change that to "yes" and what do you know it worked.

Anyway, I'll try to help out as much as I can since I'm back...sorry I haven't been able to reply to all you! And thank you very much for the nice comments, and I'm glad that most of you are using your a950 to the fullest extent.

Does these codes work with the A930 phone???

Posted by: DAM2991

Is there any possible way to change the a950 user interface ANY POSSIBLE WAY, even if we dont have the information to do so yet, is there any possible way??

Well technically, yes it would be possible to change the interface of the a950, but we absolutely do not have the information to do so yet. For example, the A950 running on the Telus UI in Canada has certain features enabled and disabled, because it runs on a different software version. Some built-in features that were supposed to be standard on the a950, such as Pictbridge printing via the USB cable, is available on the Telus A950, but not on the VZW a950 due to the fact that they are two completely different software interfaces created by the cell phone carrier/provider. It is possible to hack the main UI of the VZW a950, by editing lines of code, since we do have a firmware dump of it....but that would be a very high risk, since by making one small mistake could brick your phone completely, without even having the ability to re-install the UI back onto it. So basically...
IS IT POSSIBLE: YES
IS IT PROBABLE: NO

Do you have an always-on internet connection at home such as Cable and/or DSL? since I believe that HottProxy give you more freedom and privacy that way...http://www.hottproxy.org/..and you'll be able to check your email etc., it does take some time to set up..but I think you'll be more satisfied that way.

No no, Im using a proxy from like one of these lists. http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html

Thats not the wrong way to go is it?

All other sites work, just not like yahoo, hotmail, etc...

That is correct...sites that have a Security Certificate won't work through those free proxies...I was mentioning that if you use hottproxy, you'll be able to access those sites easily.

Here you can find a WAP version of MSN, AIM, and Yahoo messengers. You have to constantly refresh though I think, since I haven't used it in a while, but it bypasses those nasty text messaging fees from Verizon for their Mobile IM application.

That first code does get you the test menu (I'm not familiar with it), but for starters, it might be nice to know exactly what this is supposed to accomplish.... not to mention how to fix your phone when you've bricked it. That menu is not self-explanatory and there's much opportunity to screw things up. Exiting without making any changes is not intuitive - except the removing the battery part.

Posted by: HydroChronic

Yeah, no way those steps will work. Both Test Menu Commands 107 and 108 are Invalid and do nothing and 022 is set to all 0's by default.

WHY DON'T YOU GO AND PUT THIS B.S. ELSEWHERE!!! I tried this on my a950, since I has nothing to loose considering I've had experience with bricking my a950 multiple times, and restoring it perfectly..I just did another rebuild today so tried this out..107 and 108 are completely INVALID and cannot be set....disabling PRL, makes your phone undetectable to the network...Oh and if you want to scam someone....don't try it here...?I think I'll give you a personal call my self...

Okay, i just noticed the post earlier in the thread and it works. Actually, I made this post using it. Last question, it is billed as minutes correct? Or is it data?

Caould you explain why its not reccomended to use the EVDO setting for DUN? Is it a billing thing or something else? Thanks!

EVDO DUN sets a sort of "spike" meter, meaning that you get get charged for it. EVDO usage is easily detectable via DUN, and if Verizon finds that you are using it without a data plan, they will charge you by the minute. Verizon keeps EVDO usage very tight, so you have been warned...one HoFoer actually racked up over 1k in data usage without any notification from Verizon..

I assume you mean $1000 and not 1 kilobyte, right? I doubt 1k would set off any alarms.

No you havn't had verizon for over 1 year without having to signup, go die. You say you spent 2 weeks working on the codes, yet you've had free service for a year.

Oh, and not to mention that they don't work. Why are you saying that? What could you possibly gain? Besides being flamed that is...

CIA Agent? When Capitalizing Each Word You Type Like This, It's Just You Screaming "I'm A Thread Flamer"
...your codes, have obviously shown to have no use at all ..."2 weeks" to type that post of B.S. in it? I can believe...but 2 weeks to do anything productive with your a950? No.

Posted by: badkid32

Idioits. Oh well.
On to something productive! hehe.
Do any of you have DUN enabled, or have changed the WAP settings to something other than VZW's servers, and are you using the VZW Backup Assistaint? I dont know for how long, but it seems that it isn't working on my phone. I'm getting a 202 error code, and what i've found online for it simply states that it is a connectivity problem. Is it related to the WAP or DUN settings?

You guys are awesome... thanks for all the help!!

i read that u can from the mms menu change ur settings so that u can get free pix and flix messages how do u do that?

Posted by: EcoMango

Great Stuff. Thanks.

Does anyone know how to access the GPS coordinates that the a950 is displaying for its current location?

Posted by: therock125

dominic you are the man. i just had my 950 flashed to zd08 and lost my mp3 player but thanx to your codes i enabled it in under 2 min without having to downgrade my software. once again thanx for being an important asset in this community

yeah i read this in a bunch of forums and googled it but all i can find is people saying you CAN do it but not HOW to do it. If this is real then does it only work on pix/flix or can you do it with texts too?

the device info code works on the u740

thank you

none of the other codes seem to do anything on this phone

but, pressing zero in the 'service menu' does bring up a msg to input a 10 digit user code, unfortunitly the one list does not work for the u740 , neither does the ESN or the phone number

If it was in the list some place, its likely I did, but i'll try it and see what happens

is the ? part of the code because thats 11 characters and the code is 10

and that looks like a phone number, but the phone is beyond being in a dialing mode at that point

the DUN thingy doesnt seem to work on the a870, and either does the MMS thingy youre mentioning here. when i go to the settings in messaging and hit * nothing happens. i have hidden menus turned on, which, by the way, should be detailed how to turn on in here.. you have to go in the USERPREFS editor and change HIDDEN_MENUS: to 1

anyway, looking for some clarification on the messaging thing and perhaps some help on the DUN feature for the a870

Before anyone gets their hopes up; aside from the device info code - none of these work with the U620.

Posted by: stoln05

hmm i was just wondering around in my u740, and found another hidden menu in menu>>settings and tools then # and a user lock came up so i tried 000000 and i didnt really look into what to do from there..... but its there if anyone wants to try new things.....

Posted by: nfollmer

I have 2 words of advice for all you fellow A-990 users.

1. Don't try and use the 970 PST or any PST that isn't for the 990, it doesn't work (I also bricked my first 990 trying to flash my phone with the 990 flash but using the 970 software!)
2. If you do get it flashed, you cannot access the second "secret" service menu (the one that has USERPREF and that stuff.

This was to be a950 codes only...I did clarify it, but the a870 seems to be update and have a different way of enabling the hidden menus..

OK, please help me out here. I'm not as tech savy as the rest of you, I'd just like to connect my computer to me phone to access the phone book, etc.

Anyway. I read all 29 pages of the original post regarding this hack along with all 9 pages of this thread so far. I followed the directions on enabling the OBEX and other features. I can now see the computer and the computer can see me. We can even connect (I think). But can someone please tell me (in laymans terms) how I go about using these new features to access my address book? Do I need additional software? What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm asking a stupid question....

Its been discussed for the past year...and plain to say..no. Verizon has become more lenient on their newer phones by adding more bluetooth profiles, but I think the a950 has no way of continuing to add any further bluetooth profiles. Unless of course the whole phone software is re-written in someway, but that has a very minimal chance of happening as Verizon is definitely sticking to their UI and no other carriers, besides USC and Telus have it, and we also have no way of extracting that software out of the phone, and place it on our Verizon a950s.

3. Free texting isn't possible

How the hell do I switch it back to the 850/1900????

Info says 800/1900 which is for Sprint...

HELP....ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey dominic,
i just stumbled on these forums & i've no idea what the codes actually do? does this mean you have free web browsing on your phone now? and, you're able to download/upload mp3s/etc (for ringtones etc)? not too sure what the hype's about?
thx in advance.

Posted by: bednarjm

the code to access hidden menus does not work for me. am i out of luck here?

Posted by: Mr. Hockey

Wow, this is awesome! my gf has the vx8300 and ive been jealous of her mp3 player since we got the phones a year and a half ago!

But im confused to what DUN exactly is...it doesn't mean free mobile web, right? cuz it still sends me to the subscribe screen even when its enabled.

So can anyone please inform me what DUN actually is?

also, is there a way to make the mp3's as ringtones without the cable?

Posted by: hypercooljake

DUN is dial-up networking, its where you use your phone as a modem for your computer. Free mobile web would be free WAP.

So you would use the usb cable for that, right?

thanks for the input!

Hey its been great reading through all this awesome info on the sch-a950. I've been able to access all the hidden menu's. Now i'm trying to set up the internet with a free proxy just to see if that'll work.

My problem is that even before I started doing all this, it wouldn't connect to the Verizon servers to let me buy any ringtones or games or anything. And it only sent like 1 out of the last 100 pix msgs I've tried to send.

So I'm thinking maybe I need to just reset the phone somehow? I just don't want to lose any of my pics. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Posted by: djkorova

Hey sorry for posting again right away, but I got the internet to work by changing from "hybrid mode" to "CDMA only". But in all the google searches i did last only one image came up.

Then today i can't get on at all. I'm getting "unsupported content" errors and network unavailable errors.

Is there anything else that needs to be changed in the proxy menu?

Posted by: MikeG~

I've never done the free WAP workaround, but if you can't even access GIN (Get It Now) from your phone, something is screwed up on the network side, not your phone. Call Customer Service, skip all the stuff about what you're doing and just tell them you can't access GIN or send picture messages. You may have to sit there resetting your phone and doing other stupid stuff that will have no effect, but eventually either they'll talk to tech support or put you through and then it'll take about 3 minutes...

PS: I may be misremembering the name of the system flag that needs to be set or reset on your account, but I think it's "enhanced services" or "national enhanced services" - something like that anyway.

Posted by: dominic241

Wow...I'm officially ticked off now. I've been loving my a950 since all I've been able to do with it, but ever since we had to change our minute plan recently, I didn't realize they now charge $1.99/MB for usage!! I almost fainted when I saw that and have an insane amount of data usage, that I thought I was using my night minutes on...so just a forewarn..if you plan on switching to Verizon's new plans for any reason, the data charges are insane now, rather than just minutes on how it used to be.

Posted by: djkorova

Hey, I got everything working now. I googled proxies that are specifically for WAPs and found a free one that has been really reliable.

http://www.wap-gateway.com/

And got all the pics off my phone through thephonecam.com

Now i'm really liking this phone since I've hacked it, but my new every 2 is up in January. Is there any other new phone as hackable as the a950?

Hidden Menu Enable/Disable code:
- works on a950
- doesn't work on u740

Sorry if this is already known; just sharing what I found via testing.

ditto... you can't download a ringtone, browse get it now, or anything for that matter, now without paying data usage.

Ringtone = $1.99
.02MB usage (rounded up to 1MB) = $1.99
----
1 Ringtone = $4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

=======================

Backup Assistant = FREE ($1.99 fee waived with Online account)
.03MB usage to download = $1.99
----
WTF: It's not "free" anymore!

=======================

Then, when you call to complain, they try to sell you the Premium Plan!!!

Posted by: pamela80

Out of curiosity why did you change your plan to the Nationwide? Thank goodness you only have to if you get the Voyager or any html browser phones in the future, I plan on keeping AC2 as long as I can.

Posted by: Rizon

You have to get it if you change to the Juke, or the Venus (I believe).

You also get it if you change plans (i.e. the number of minutes you have per month).

Posted by: pamela80

Quote:

Verizon CS and the stores tried that on me too. It's really not true, I got the Venus without changing plans at a store (returned it later because I had problems with it), and I could have upgraded online too without changing plans. It all depends if you find a CS rep or store person that won't lie to you, many reps have been bad lately with trying to get people on the Nationwide plan it's awful. It's only needed on the Voyager though definitely. If you change plans yes you definitely have to change plans.

Posted by: blacam00

The main reason why they are pushing the nationwide plans is because they cannot backdate the AC plans anymore. So if you go over your minutes one month and come in before your bill cuts to backdate a higher rate plan...you wont be able to if you're still on the AC plans. Therefore, you get shafted in paying for the overage. Now think how mad you will be? This is probably one of the most common things that customers do.

The new nationwide plans also give you more coverage than before.

I can see how the $1.99/MB seems to be steep but compared to other carriers per MB data charges, vzw is the cheapest of any.

Posted by: Rizon

Right now, I think they give the same coverage... they both use the same PRL as far as I know.

AC2 and the Nationwide plans, that is.

Posted by: blacam00

You are correct. However, I was speaking in terms of availability; specifically data.

Posted by: Beaster144

Tried all the codes on the new SCH-U900(Samsung Flipshot) and only the Device Info code works. Just to let you know. And a930 doesn't work at all for me.

Posted by: acurrent

ok...for the a870 the device info code works, the GIN edit works, and the maltrace enable/disable codes work, the hidden menu code does not work

For the u340, no that is not a typo, the device info code works, and the maltrace codes work
let me know if this helps

Posted by: Wireless

Thanks for all the effort put into this. I was overwhelmed when I found this. I picked up a new a950 tp play with, and it went from nothing works, VERIZON clamped down, to almost fully functional.

One question, I have looked, and looked hard (well I think I have) Still, I can see nowhere that we have enabled Bluetooth DUN. Is this correct?

I hope this isn't too late, I just joined yesterday. I have been using vzw DUN free for years. With my a930 I go to the "setttings & tools" menu. I hit # and the password is all 0's. Then #6 and change to CDMA. On your cpu set up a dial up modem manually.
Phone#: #777
Username: (your ten digit numer)??????????@vzw3g.com
password: vzw
I have never been charged anything besides mins and it shows up on the bill as a ophone number being dialed.

Posted by: That's-Me

I am frustrated. My kids can get into their LG phones but I cannot get anything changed in my A-990. I paid a bunch of money to get the 3 megapixel camera (which I like very much) but I guess it was so expensive and short lived that not enough people tried to get into it.

I have only bought ring tones once. I paid $10 for 4 tones and less than a year later I found that I couldn't take them with me. I swore that I would never buy a ring tone from Verizon.

So, has anyone found a way to get a ring tone into a 990?

My second beef is that my old Motorola phone (yeah, the one with the non transferrable ring tones) could tether to my laptop and be used as a bluetooth fax. Again, I found this feature missing. Is there any way to turn that on?

Lastly, but not as important is that I would like to get to the native ability of the phone to play MP3's and not convert to WMA.

Thanks for any help I can get.

Welcome aboard and we appreciate the offer. I think this would make you a hero. Enable BLUETOOTH DUN (not teathered, we got that) on a Samsung a950. From my searches it does not exist and has not been done. Make us proud.

Posted by: phreddie

Us Gleam (u700) users would LOVE to get into the WAP menus. We've been looking for the 10 digit code that is prompted for here:

Settings & Tools > # 000000 > 6. HDR Setting > 5

Any help would be appreciated!

Also, (and this may just be me), I can't copy pictures off of the phone (using QPST). Is there something that needs to be unlocked for that? Or should I be trying a different tool?

Posted by: acurrent

the a950 BLUEtooth DUN does not exist on our phones....it will work with alltel phones.....follow steps to normally enable DUN......just a warning on all samsung, sw version 4.2 and up the hidden menu code will not work and the userprefs menu will have 2 b used to do that.....and the gleam, as well as the u410 wap settings are encrypted......as far as I know there is no other way in besides the param editor

Posted by: Wireless

Thanks acurrent. That basically brings the issue to a close. You cannot activate what does not exist! This is the kind of inside info that we find priceless, good or bad.. Thanks

Posted by: phreddie

Ok. How does one get into the param editor on the Gleam?

Posted by: desertgal02

Is there a code to increase the volume on the U410? Hubby went to the Verizon store & they talked him into one as a replacement for his LG VX5200. The volume on both the speaker phone & the ringer is terrible. I'd like to increase it so he can hear it when it rings.
Thanks.

Posted by: acurrent

you need to download a REALMUSIC ring tone with VZW tones or SONY MUSIC BOX 3 from get it now......i have that phone and had the same problem.....

Posted by: acurrent

param editor of the gleam is through the main data computers, there isnt one yet...that willl be released on the gleam sw v. 2.3.5

Posted by: desertgal02

I had all the extra stuff like Get It Now disabled on our lines. The kid was running up too much money. Any solution that doesn't involve giving VZW more money?? Also, the earpiece & speakerphone volume are really low, even at max. The speakerphone is almost useless. I can amplify the ringtones before I load them, but that doesn't help with the other problems.

What software are you referring to? My Gleam lists its software version as U700.AG07. Is this one of those "unavailable to the general population" bits of software?

I'm pretty bummed that I can't hack my WAP.

What about the 10 digit code for the U900, that comes after the #000000 in settings?
That one's even got my tech buddy at the local store puzzled.

OK. Thanks for all the info! More questions, of course....

Am I already a version down on my Gleam (AG07)? Any idea when AG09 will be out?

Do you think you could tell us the name of the software that is on the "verizon tech computers" that you use to edit the Gleam (WAP) settings? Maybe even a software version? If I'm going too far, just let me know. I don't want to cause any trouble.

I searched this forum and have tried that plus countless other codes. When I first got the u900 in Dec I used both QPST and QXDM to browse the file system in search of even a clue for it. I've browsed all the mobile sites, of which HF is always the forerunner for accurate cdma info, but I've spent so much time on it that I had to finally give up and just check back here occasionally hoping it will magically appear one day. The standard DUN edit works and bitpim works fine for tones, I just mainly want to use my site's pic server...so any VZ tech imput would be greatly appreciated!

I posted a month or so ago about DUN setup for Verizon so that you only use your mins. Last week when I tried Dialing on, it connected as usual but when I pull up any of my web browsers, I get redirected to a message that says my phone is not set up on the server for access and to contact my service provider.
-Has Verizon found a way to track who is using DUN and not paying the extra fees?

ok...the software we use is QPST HEAVY and SAMSUNG PST LITE 5.6.2

Verizon is tracking din....all new phones meaning LG AND SAMSUNG ONLY!!!! Need a new dun password from the computer....the pw is VzW3g case sensitive

Thanks for all your help, acurrent! That's some good info. Now all I need to do is find the elusive u700 dlls.

This is partially true. You still need to go into the phone and remove the word dun from the settings in the phone, if not you will get the dun error message when you try to connect.

Thanks for your offer to help.

I have a Verizon Samsung SCH-u410. Is there a way to tether it to a laptop, so I can access the internet through my laptop when I am travelling?

I have searched the internet and the HowardForums for the past two days, but cannot find a definitive answer.

read this thread twice... did I miss working codes for the a930? Or even what worthwhile changes can be made to one? Free wap would be cool, but I don't know what else is possible. I converted mp3s to wma for my wife to play so getting the mp3 player working doesn't interest me, and I've learned how to do ringtones.

After using a SCH-a950 would love to give props to Samsung and thumbs down to veriZon wireless.

But now thanks to your thread my 950 rocks mp3s!

No it really rocks them, after droping in in water the 1/2inch plastic cone speakers just stopped working. So I ripped them from there sockets. With some help from some simple :
Super Glue
Cut up piece of ziptie
Solder
Wire from cat 5 cable
Epoxy
electric tape
1" Speaker and housing from nextel walkie talkie i530

I First removed the ouside music controls (useless)
cut out some plastic
soldered wires to the existing connectors
ran wires thru the ?"tunnel"? and around the screen
soldered wires to speaker
superglued speaker to housing
using an epoxy such as "mighty puddy" melded it all together
last but not least used a small cutout of a ziptie to replace stupid outside camera button. (now lights up with the keypad)

Now I have a stage two speaker and my 950 no longer fills up with pictures of my pocket. Oh and it plays MP3's too! Thanks Dom!

I have an r500, I know its not supposed to work on this phone, but when I go to the tools mode and hit star key, it pops up and says service programming. I hit zero and the star appeared on the screen to show I was entering a password. What's the password supposed to be? its 6 digits and its not 000000. HELP ME!

I believe you can change the password yourself. Reset all you passwords to default in the settings/security menu. Maybe that will get it to work with the 000000 code.

good luck
