What's the best smartphone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've read a lot about the treo 650p and the samsung SCH-i730. SoI'm thinking that those two phones, right now, are the best ones. I've never owned a pda or smartphone. I don't really care about how well the acual phone works. The features that I'm most interested in are as follows: access to the internet (be it wifi or however else you can get online from a phone), windows programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows Media 10 software (does this mean you can listen to music, watch movies, etc. on it?), a keyboard (either a slid out keyboard or a keyboard on the phone's face), decent battery, and a camera would be good. And I don't really care about the price.

So does anyone know of a phone that meets 90% of the features listed above? I'm pretty sure neither the treo or the samsung meet all of my criteria. Is there a phone better than the treo's or samsung i730?

The best?
The one that does everything YOU need.

just get the Cingular 8125. or if you want to wait get the 8525 as that's the upgraded (think 3G hi-speed) version.

OK.
The features youre interested in the most:

access to the internet (be it wifi or however else you can get online from a phone)
Any Smartphone or phone-enabled PPC have at least GPRS

windows programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
Any Smartphone or phone-enabled PPC can have Westek's ClearVue suite (to play with most Office files on your device)

Windows Media 10 software (does this mean you can listen to music, watch movies, etc. on it?)
- comes with any SP or PPC bsed on Windows Mobile OS
You don't need that sh*tty software at all, unless you plan on using idiotic DRM-ed Windows Media files and being at mercy of microsoft's "licences" to allow or disallow you to play *your own* files on your own device LOL anything else but DRM-ed windows media files (MP3s, DivX, streaming radio and tv) can be played with free TCPMP player, which is way superior to pocket WMP10

keyboard (either a slid out keyboard or a keyboard on the phone's face)
now THAT is a specific requirement, and this you have to look up

decent battery
that depends on your definition of "decent".
To some people decent battery life means being able to have his phone on standby for at least a year and to others (like me) it just means being able to use my phone in 'normal ways' through entire day

a camera
I dont know why do you need crappy camera in your phone, because believe it or not - but NO ONE is saving those washed-out soft small resolution pictures taken with phone cameras in their albums, thats for sure. Just ask people around if you dont believe it
But if you really need it, Im pretty sure that almost every newer SP or PPC comes with some sort of snapshot-taker built-in in it.

So, in general all your expectations are covered by any modern smartphone or pocket pc - except for keyboards, and that is the only criterium you should look for when searching for your phone.

edit:
HERE you can find most, if not all, of the SPs and PPCs forcomparisons (but dont trust all the informations listed there, there are tons of errors and mistakes)

i love the camara thing
they sell you the N90 or the N93 for 700 bucks telling you it has a 2.0 or 3.2mp sensor and all that crap, then a 50 buck digicam that fits in any pocket does the same

Posted by: jason62091

well, then whats the best phone in terms of value; which phone gets the most bang for the buck? The treo 650?

Posted by: mbranscum

OK...I'll tell you since no one else will...the Cingular 8125 is the best. There, now it's been said!

or usually better
you can buy 2-3mpx camera with 4x optical zoom and way better sensor than the tiny toy in these phones for less than that

Crappy camera in a phone makes sense only if the phone is capable of videochat or videocalls... maybe next generation of phones will finally use such features

How fast of a processor do you want/need? With omap I have my 8125 running smoothly at 264MHz.

Its probably fine @264mhz, but thats not the point. Its still at least 2 years outdated CPU, which is the heart and soul of your device

So what would you recommend?

The best smartphone is the one that is rumored to be shipping in about 5 weeks from now. Whenever "now" is.

I think I replied this question in my 1st post in this thread

Theres nothing wrong with your phone, IMHO it is very good mobile.
But it is hardly "the best", thats why I mentioned to you i.e. its outdated CPU, thats all.
