This software is limited to intranet browsing for corporate backdoor websites or links. Please provide feedback and suggestions deemed appropriate.

The following link contains the BB Connect Software (v.3.55) for the P990i.

Stuck-a-fied...

About once a day, I notice that I stop receiving mail (BES, T-Mob, 3.37). The icon at the bottom of the screen is fine, but when I tap it, it says "You are not connected to the Blackberry Service". It will not resume. I have to restart the phone to get it going again.

On the p910a, I always saw the BB icon with a red circle/slash through it....seems like it just stops working on the p990i.

It might correlate with sync'ing to the desktop, but I haven't specifically been watching it.

hmmmm......

p

Posted by: L Bo

Nothing to do with the sync'ing. Its just a BBC problem.

Part of the headache when you get to "test" the waters of an overseas phone, along with unreleased software that wasnt designed for consumer use.

I have the same thing happening to me. Maybe once or twice a week.

I believe that is partially firmware related. The recent firmware has had tons of hicups including not logging calls correctly. In addition, the BB connect software fails to pause while you're on a voice call at times, therefore, becomes proned to early termination. In case you have not had to restart your phone daily any way, then this shouldn't hurt. The auto-restart for maintenance has plagued a lot of P990i owners. This hopefully should be fixed with the future firmware upgrades. Again, I don't think this has to do with syncing issues on the BB connect software + server side.

It should also be mentioned that MMS and WiFi are also allowed to run at the same time as as BBC. Another great accomplishment.

After sending the service book for my crackberry account to my phone, the BIS is running flawlessly with BES.

I could almost cry.

I'm late to this party so please excuse the question. I'll be getting my P990 in the coming days and would like to use BIS on T-Mo in the US. Anyone using it on their network yet? If so, how is it working? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, BF. Yes, I did read the guide but didn't see any mention of T-Mo in the US or your location hence the quest for clarification,,,

Now I'm assuming you'd be in the US, correct?

Thanks.

I am technically in the US, UK, and Tokyo. I do have multiple sim accounts, but this particular one was done with the US T-MO one and it does work.

For the last few days, I keep getting the reconcile "currently not available". Anyone else?

Everything is ok on this Front m8. I just ran it a few times. Maybe it's an isolated issue.

Now THIS is pure heaven!

btw, L Bo for your issues maybe you could update your "Routing Tables"? I'm assuming BES should update your BWC software on the P990i, without the BIS interfering. Is this possible on the P990's BWC software?

Posted by: L Bo

I believe my problem is the number of BIS accounts I currently have. I had 5, then cut it to 4, it worked for a minute, but now it still wont reconcile again. Even when I open the blackberry software on the phone, it moves VERY SLOW when I go to the list of accounts and does some very weird graphics like I've never seen on ANY of the P series.

I'm convinced that there is a limit to how many BIS accounts you can have without sacrificing some parts of the service as a whole.

My company does not support Blackberry at this time. If I install the BBC software on my P990 and my PC, can I use the redirector software to forward my corporate email (leaving computer on) to my handset if I only subscribe to to T0mobile BB add-on for BIS?

Does the BB Connect software include redirector?

Thanks

The software should allow you to do that. However, it would not be a wise economic choice. You will need to get the BES option, so you'll end up spending roughly $360 to use this software as a redirector for a year's time. There are plenty of redirector alternatives that will only cost you a fraction of that price.

Posted by: L Bo

Down to 3 BIS' and counting. Anyone else using multiple BIS' w/BES on Tmo?

Not sure what you mean by other redirectors. Also, I do believe at some point in time our IT dept will offer a BES.

Just so I understand your reply, you are saying that with the BIS option (T-mobile) and BBC software, I can redirect my outlook email (via vpn) while my pc is on and running outlook? No other software needed? I can upgrade to the BES (t-mobile) when we have a live BES option at work.

Sorry if I don't seem like I get it. Still a little fuzzy.

Not sure if the P990i's BBConnect software have a built in Desktop Redirector like the BBDM for BB units however if it does, I'm sure you MUST leave your computer on all the time to have it working, as it polls every 15minutes to your online email system to forward emails to your BBConnect enabled P990i.

Posted by: dcgmedia

Well, I installed BBC on my P990, configured my email accounts on the T-Mobile website; but cannot receive emails. I can send; but no-go on the receive. I tired all three internet accounts plus the blackberry.net account. Service books have been sent and resent; but still no emails. When I click on the reconcile now option, I get an unavailable message.

Does any one know what I am doing wrong?

Peter

Posted by: L Bo

Are you using BES or BIS?

Posted by: dcgmedia

4 hours and no solution. It seems the BIS will not work on my p990 via tmobile. Tmobile has no answer and rim would not answer their phone all day.

Does anyone have a solution for me. Under connection manager, it lists the blackberry.net; but for BES. I cannot seem to get the blackberry internet service to run on the handheld.

Can anyone help me?

Trying to use BIS. Not even attempting BES. All I want is for the BIS to work.

Haven't been following this, but did you tell the BBC client when you provisioned it that it's for BIS (you have to make a BIS/BES choice there)?

On the t-mo website, did you change the PIN/IMEI to match?

Re-push books, and it should work. Worked for me no problem..

good luck,
paul

Hey Paul, thanks for the reply. Well, I figured out the problem. It seems if you are only using the BIS, you need to ONLY sign up for the BIS T-mobile service. When we tried using the full-blown BES/BIS option on T-mobile, it only wanted BES. I switched back to the BIS service and at 8:44 this morning, wah la, in came the emails.

I am waiting for my company to release itself from the mid-evil times and install a BES. When that happens, I will try the BES/BIS option. FYI...4 hours on hold for RIM and they never answered. 24/7 according to T-mobile.

Cheers, Pete

Posted by: L Bo

Reconcile seems to working fine now. Unsure if its the massive emails I deleted or it was a tech problem that was fixed on TMO's or my BES providers side.

I'm happy now.

Posted by: L Bo

I just realized something this morning. Once they release an update in firmware, that means we will have to reinstall ANOTHER BBC since the update will not be compatible with the current firmware (dramatic music, GASP!! )

This further means all saved emails and such will be lost!!

To upgrade, or not to upgrade. That is the question!!

Posted by: FuzzyClam

From the sounds of it, if the changes for the W950i make it into a M600/P990 ROM update, it'll be worth it: more RAM free, can turn off all the fade in/out graphics, etc.

Maybe the corresponding BBC update would be a little less buggy as well.

One can hope.

Dear BigFeat,

First of all, let me thank you for the BB Connect info. Over the years, I have relied on your feedback to work with the software. I used your instructions (posted elsewhere) two years ago to install BB Connect on my old P910i. It worked fine. Now I have P990i. Based on your instructions, again, I was able to install and work with BB Connect. The other day, I used the update service to upgrade the firmware. Then the nightmares began. Now I can NOT connect. The status says "Not connected". I was on the phone with RIM and TMo but with no luck. I was able to change the internet account priorities to make it BES Blackberry.net as #1. Still no luck. At this time, I seek your help to see if you know any thing else. Can I go back to old firmware (If so, how?) Are there any IP address setting for the BES account?

Please help.

Thanks and have a nice day.

VJ

Thanks BigFeat and M8.

I will download the BB Connect version 3.45 tonight. I will feed you back my luck.

Thanks again.

The software worked. Thank you very much mods.

The internet works simultaneously as well. I still can not connect to WiFi though. If you the solution, I would appreciate the help.

Nonetheless, I can't thank enough you both.

Have a great day.

I was wandering if one of you guys would please email me or PM me the 3.45 version of the Blackberry?

I need my P990 for work and I updated to the new firmware version, so I can't get the BES to work. I have 3.37 installed now, BTW.

I would greatly be appreciated!!!

To all true P990 playas on this board (eg, BigFeat, Artesa, L Bo, etc).....what are the real benefits to upgrading to BBC 3.45? I am presently using my p990 with BBC 3.37 on T-Mo USA. Runs so smoothly it brings me tears of joy every day. Losing this perfection would be a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions.....so gentlemen, I ask u......is the upgrade worth the risk?

Havent upgraded yet, so I cant tell you.

Posted by: artesea

Whilst I still have the old firmware, I'm not updating (but do have the SIS ready).
As far as I'm aware the only benfits are: works on the newest firmware; works on W950i.

Posted by: BigFeat

I will be updating the guide this weekend along with everything that is needed. So far it's been working great for the past few days for me. Some bugs appeared to be ironed out.

Posted by: vijendra

Per BigFeat & M8' suggestion, I upgraded to 3.45. Only because I upgraded to new firmware. 3.45 is a must for new Firmware. It works fine with TMo USA

The only thing that needs changing is the v3.30 to v3.45 in the body of the post.

Unable to connect to desktop manager for some reason. Cant activate the blackberry enterprise but my regular emails are good.

Also the reconcile still wont work when you have more than 4 emails accounts in the service books.

Are you still going through Cingular - now the NEW ATT? I'm not sure what has been affected by the switch over. There are no issues with the other carriers I've tested it with.

I would suggest you un-install and re-install the progie. I'm guessing you un-installed the previous version instead of overwriting the new one on it. I tried overwriting the older version initially, but had similar issues. That's why I put a verbiage in the guide book to un-install previous versions before the installing this new one.

Posted by: L Bo

Still with TMO. So I should un-install BBC and try again?

Thanks

That would be part of the Reconcile feature (BIS/BES) and you may choose whether the handset commands (i.e. delete, move, etc.) wins or not. I'm currently using T-Mo on my handset and I have no issues to report yet.

Posted by: Harleydog

Bigfeat, here is the process i follow, using BIS. I delete the message from the handeld and then reconcile, however it does not delte on my outlook? any suggestions

thanks

Bigfeat,

sorry where exactly is that on tmobile. i cannot find it

thanks

OK. I figured out my problem. For some reason outlook was in offline mode. Once I put it back online, all is well. Desktop connects to the phone, corp emails are back and mikey still loves the kids...too much.

Posted by: Harleydog

how does your desktop connect, lBo are you using BES or BIS? thanks

Posted by: artesea

Desktop - BES
Internet - BIS
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Harleydog

Artesa

thanks for clarifying. is there any way to sync email between bb email accounts on P990 and outlook located on the desktop. when i try through usb and pc suite, it says that the ability to sync on p990 has been turned off, but i cannot find anywhere to turn this on.

any suggestions?

Thanks

I actually use both. For my POP accounts I have the BIS that I setup on TMO's site. For my BES email, I set the phone on the usb hookup and let the phone connect to the Blackberry Desktop Software. Then, bada bing bada boom, I was back in action.

Some how Outlook went into offline mode so the phone wouldnt sync with the desktop. Go figure.

Posted by: Harleydog

when i try to luanch the desktop software it says my account is not provisioned correctly and to contact my system administrator. What is special about setting up a new profile, is there a setting that is required?

Thanks

Claude

You may need to contact your cell phone service provider.

It needs to be synchronized with an admin while you are connected to your intranet.

Okay folks ....

I am in a major predicament here. I cosider myslef cell-phone savvy having worked in the field for almost 7 years and currently work for TMO-US.

Whenever I have a problem, I can usually fix it myslef and fix other people's problems all day long, but ...

I am stuck big time here!

Scenario:

Phone: P990
Version: Just updated it to latest one.
BB Software: 3.45(40)
SE e3.45.3.0 <2.1.0.82>

Cell Phone Plan: BES and TMO Internet VPN

Currently:

BES EMAIL & Calendar works great, no issues whatsoever.

Problem:

Can't access internet with Opera browser.

Will work ONLY if I "Pause" the BES. Problem, the BES starts back up automatically and ends my internet session.

What I have tried :

-Changing my "priorities" through the internet groups.

-Creating a 2nd internet group with just my TMO VPN in it.

-Deleted my TMO Internet thinking that it may be conflicting with my Blackberry service.

From what I understand, some of you are using the BES software on your P990 for email and Internet service?

Is this correct? If, so - what did you do? lol ... how are your internet groups configured? What are your "priority" settings? Do you guys have just the Blackberry Plan? etc ...

Your guy's help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

I thought it was in the pipeline for BB connect capable devices. With I understood from reading press releases from RIM several months ago was to expand their service into several markets including non-RIM devices (i.e. the big ones UIQ3, 60, Win-Mobile).

I can confirm that BES and BIS are working properly with new firmware and new BB connect software along with BB desktop software. I will be updating my BB Install guide soon.
