Candid KX16 ringtones

Here is what i have figured out so far.

KX16 is only compatible with .pmd or .mid files (pain in the a$$)

but it can be done. you will need Qualcomm's CMX studio for wav to pmd conversion. Qualcomm's QPST for connecting to the phone and transfering files
and some good audio editing software to convert mp3s to wav

here is how its done. edit you mp3 get a small segment to use as your ring tone. convert it to wav then open CMX studio select CMX 4.3, insert wav and add loops then save with no spaces in the filename. open Qpst configuration change the com port to reflect what port the phone is connected to (mine was com5 yours may be different) give it a few seconds it should reconize the phone. now open Qpst efs explorer it select the active phone. ringers are stored under brew/snd/ringers i think then drag your ringtone into the ringers folder and exit phone will restart.

usually with pmd files sound quality is poor or at least mine are so so but i have figured out if you mess with the pmd file settings and change it from qcelp to adpcm ima/dvi and sample at 16000 the sound improves slighty but size triples

but here is one thing i dont understand. some ringtones i have bought and dloaded to my phone are .mid format but are realtones and sound great but if you convert a mp3 to a mid it is not a realtone so heres my problems how do you make a .mid sound like a mp3????? im going to try to just rename a mp3 to .mid but i am doubtful that will work

also mobile phone tools that comes with the usb cable is junk!!! if you can get it to connect its only good for adding pictures for backgrounds

so if anyone knows how to get a mid file to sound like a mp3 let me know

Ok i have tested it and it works you can add mp3. ringers straight to the phone. So other than Cmx studios abilty to add loops, vibe and degraded sound quality to the ringers it is not needed. only Qpst is needed.

Note: Mobile phone tools will not allow you to add mp3 or pmd ringtones

What provider?

I do not use a cable to connect my phone, I email them to my phone, and save them to saved soounds

first the provider has nothing to do with it we are talking about a CDMA KX16 ..... second i use a cable it is the most effecent way of customizeing (failed spelling class lol ) your phone..... it give you the abilty to change all sounds and images not just ringers. and you really dont even want to use cmx studio...... the output sounds like ****... get a free program called 123 file renamer and change the ext from mp3 to mid even though the phone will play a mp3 it will not allow you to select it as a default ringer. it must be .mid but it will retain all sound quality. and no im not making ringers lol at least not for free anyway... also if you need a copy of qpst or cmx studio contact me on yahoo messy.

which cable you use sloth?

I haven't been able to get qpst or bitpim to recognize my KX16. Only KPST will see it but no EFS explorer in that. Everything works with my old KX1. I have tried every driver I can find. I have QPST 2.7 b215, what version are you using? Any ideas or suggestions, anyone?

I am using the cable from kyocera. I have found cheap knock off cables are unreliable at best. not sure of the model number on the cable I would have to find the box. i am using qpst 2.7 bulid 91... i had the same problem at first. you need to open up qpst configuration and see if the com port the phone is installed on is listed. if not you will have to add a new port to the config. when adding ports make sure you know where you phone is after you have connected you phone to the computer it should show up in your device manager. select the phone and look through the properties there should be a advanced port settings menu make sure the com port selected is not conflicting with another device! then go back to qpst config and add the new port ... you may also try changing the port in your device manger and qpst to find one that will let you connect also try slowing down the port speed in qpst config.

hope this helps!!!
