I want to update my 6700 so I go to Verizon's and find the link, download the DOC and Application. After following the instructions exactly, my phone shuts down and refuses to power back up. Further, when I plug into the USB, the task bar on computer says, "your devise has malfunctioned....blah blah blah"

I tried everything to figure it out but, to no avail.
The ONLY thing my machine would do was perform the first part of the hard reset. (both soft keys and stylus in hole), however, when I push Y or N, nothing would happen, except a blank screen.

I was forced to call Verizons Tec support line. Long story short= They will replace my phone in 3 working days. Here is the important part.

The Tec tells me, even though the instructions say to soft reset befor doing the upgrade, you should always remove any SD card, and hardreset befor following the instructions on the DOC.
