Using Sidekick 3 to get internet on Laptop

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Here's the scenario: I take the train. I get a cell phone data signal pretty much the whole ride on the sidekick. The train doesn't have wifi. Is there a way using the USB cable from sidekick to laptop and ride off Sidekicks data/internet on the laptop? Nothing intense... I'd just rather IM and email off the laptop if possible since Im already on it doing work and what not. I thought Terminal Client could do this but the more I read its not really what it does. Any other way?

PS: I read some other threads it looks like its not going to happen... thought maybe there was some new developments since the SK3 is out now and im using it.. .guessing not though. Looks like im IM'ing on the SK!

As a x-Sidekick user, it's not possible and there's no hack for it. When they design Sidekick, they made it hack proof.

Your only option is get a Blackberry. That's what I did.

I got rid of my Sidekick and I got myself a Blackberry 7290. Now I have the Blackberry 8100 and I love it.

It can do so much more than the Sidekick. Sidekick is a joke I think.

Some advantages it have over the Sidekick is the 8100 have an option of GPS. So you can find your way around. Google Maps works on all Blackberries so you can have traffic updates at most major cities.

And YES, IT HOOKS UP TO YOUR LAPTOP! So you can browse the Internet and do e-mails on YOUR LAPTOP!

And there's lots more.

I recommend getting rid of your Sidekick and get a Blackberry. You will thank me later!

p.s. If you do decide to get a Blackberry, don't use IM that came with it. I recommend using Yak-On or Ramble.

what is yak on and ramble? is that a msn, yahoo client?

Posted by: secrecyguy

Ramble is AOLIM client compatible

Yak-On is AOLIM, MSN, and ICQ client compatible.

I have links to those programs and I just put together a comparison chart for Sidekick 3 and Blackberry 8100 here:

Nothing IM's like a sidekick. Yak drops connection and you don't know it until the unit times out.

Did you just dig a thread from 2 weeks ago just to justify your hate?

I think that someone has something to compensate for.
