903SH and etc questions

Whoo, first post! I was unsure about whether to put this in "What phone should I get?" or the Sharp forums, I ultimately decided here is better since I'm not actually planning on buying one in the immediate future. And so, onto my questions...

I plan to buy a phone within the next year or so, but I'm having great difficulty picking one out. I absolutely love Sharp's designs, but alas I am in somewhat of a predicament. I really like the 903SH, but I feel that it's getting a little dated, and by the time I buy it (summer '07 would be best estimate) it would be really dated, 2 years. So my question is, what do you think will be a good alternative at this point?

I am considering the 904SH and 910T, but while they are superior in features, I prefer the design of the 903SH over them both. The 910SH would be absolutely perfect...but it appears to be japan exclusive T_T Should I suck it up and buy the 903SH even though it'll be old'd by then? Fall back on another Sharp phone? Or some other model that is comparable in features and design?

And so, experts of all things mobile, I await any suggestions derived from my rediculously vague ranting! Thanks in advance.

Note* Being new to the forums I will take all advice and noob bashing in good humor. Also, please tell me if I am breaking any forum rules (Especially concerned about my sig, acceptable size and content?)

dont even think about the 910SH cuase you cant use it in canada the 904 unlock will prob be out by then ( hopefully ) and u can use that the 903sh ... no matter how "outdated" a sharp phone is its still good i use my gx-32 sometimes yes GX-32 thats from 3-4 yrs ago and people still go "wow" megapx ... some people w/ v3's and cheap motorola's will come up to u and wow at your phone

answer to ur question : wait for 904 if u want, but the 903 will never "date" its always
"fresh" hahah

Thanks for the quick reply,

Regarding the 910SH, I know it's a fleeting dream =( But I can still gawk at its beauty =D Interesting point on the 903SH and sharp phones in general, I sure wouldn't tire of them, but I like to keep on the forefront of technology whenever possible.

The 904SH is surely a nice phone, but the 903SH looks soooo much nicer in my opinion. Are the advancements on the 904SH considerably higher compared to the 903SH? A quick look at its specs and I don't see a huge difference, though I'm fairly new at all this so I'm not too sure.

prob the only difference a you'll see is the screeen is 4 times more beatiful and the sound is greatly improved ( louder then b4 )

Might be asking a bit, but can you take a side by side picture of the screens for comparison (judging from your sig, you have both phones). And a personal recommendation would be great XD if you were in my position, which would you pick?

The phone is rare as it is... If u can get one at that time I'd go for it. It's a classic... looks good, functions good and just damn good

kyotochocobo,

By summer of 2007, Rogers would have deployed hsdpa by then. So you can expect Rogers to have at least a couple of hsdpa handsets for sale.

At the same time, Cingular would have 5-6 different hsdpa handsets in their line-up --- which Canadians can easily pick up a used/unlock one from ebay.

Why would you want a umts phone next year when everyone else will be selling hsdpa phones?

Posted by: kyotochocobo

@ samab, everything you said just soared over my head >_< If it's not too much trouble, can you explain the differences, advantages and etc. My cell phone and related technology knowledge is terrible at this point.

UMTS (also known as WCDMA) is the first generation of 3G phone technology (from the GSM side). Maximum download speed is 384 kbps with an average download speed in 250-300 kbps. The 904SH is a UMTS phone.

HSDPA is like version 2.0 of UMTS. Maximum download speed on the handset side is 1.8 mbps right now with average download speed of 500-800 kbps. Cingular is currently selling 1 HSDPA phone --- the LG CU500.

Ah, ok, thanks that clears things up a bit. But the question is...are the networks in Canada that support this technology? From what I've heard the GSM era in north america has just gotten under way.

Edit: Nevermind! I just reread your first post about Rogers opening up a network for it by summer '07. I'm still leaning towards getting a 903/904SH though, unless a really nice phone comes out that is HSDPA compatible.

Well you won't be able to take advantage of the 3G capabilities of the 903 or 904 in NA... If you want to use the HSDPA capabilities then I'd sugguest waiting. If you're like me and don't care... get the 903... I sure love mine

Haha... 903SH is already dated.... BUT uncommon and still very much superior in handware specs to any latest phones out there... making it still very much Exclusive.

I must say in the beginning before i got the 904sh the 903sh looked much better but after getting it it's all leaning the other way around, and I think that alot of people agrees with me.

So how is it, doesn't Canada or USA have 3G yet or what is the problem? Does this mean that the 910sh will generally work in Europe if it's unlocked so to say...? I want one hehe, no more paperweight than the 904sh is at the moment and ppl will be like w00t
