Idea for custom phones!!!!!!!

I have a good idea(I think). It would be nice if we can custom build our own phone. For examples like choosing flip, candy bar or slider, colors, features like upgrades for memory compacity, bluetooth or not, camera or not and etc... Let know know what anbody thinks and how I can propose this to Cingular.

I would imagine that the cost of making the phones would be higher than a mass produced phone and nobody would buy them. It is a great idea, it just seems that most people want their phones for free and it probably wouldn't be possible. I don't know just an idea.

great idea, ive actually wished you could do that, or even call up your favorite manufacturer and offer them money to custom build you a phone, but you have to think it would cost minimum 15,000 dollars, and thats a pretty low estimate. they would have to use their resources (engineers etc..) to focus soley on you and not on the companies needs. this means they would lose a lot of money. maybe some day in the distant future youll be able to have a phone custom built, but not anytime soon.

I think it would be possible one day. The only thing I think you would have no say over is the actually shape of the phone. Suppose a (no name) company emerged and made a stylish candybar and clamshell phone for the purpose of a customizble handheld for a single person. You would have no choice of color or shape, but could possibly customize what applications and capabilities the phone would be able to do. I dont think the time is near, but I doubt impossible. After all.... a lot of people can get what they want for the most part in a laptop or desktop now adays. I would expect it to be pricy, but you know there's people out there dying to spend their money.

It's a great idea. I've had many friends wish they could get a phone customized just for them.

well if they made it like cars, by giving you a starting platform with a few form factors to start from and build up from there. like features, functions, memory, color, and that kind of stuff.

Why propose this to Cingular? Cingular is a carrier, not a cell phone manufacturer.

not sure how i would do the "CS" sucks they always always tell me wrong info, if it wasnt for the great phones and reception, bcuz of terrible "CS" i would swith 2 Verizon

If this was allowed how would they be able to charge you for 30 features when you really only use around 10 of them at most? I think most cellular providers hope you'll end up paying more for extra features they can get crammed on the phone. That's why stuff like Verizon's standard interface makes it easy to "buy buy buy". I think phones and providers go hand and hand. One hand feeds the other.

a company like cingular wouldnt do it. Nokia may do something like this in the future. I wished that a company like dell would do this with mp3 players, choosing your battery, screen, extra features etc. I think it all may happen in like 20 years maybe
