I'm going to post all that I can find on tweaking the 8400 out here. Add info if you want.

How to upload a free Ringtone

Shoot a video.
Open it in Quicktime Pro.
Insert your ringtone IN FRONT of the video.
ExportPut the file one your micro SD Card:\DCIM\100SANYO\

Posted by: ljs3000

So when you put it on your microSD card, how do you enable it as a ringtone?

Posted by: Panther37

Shoot a video.
Open it in Quicktime Pro.
Insert your ringtone IN FRONT of the video. (Just drag and drop onto the video portion. You should be able to drag and drop any file type that Quicktime Pro can open.)
ExportPut the 3G2 file on your microSD:\DCIM\SANYO100\ (A 3GP will work but doesn't sound as good.)

Copy to the phone:
Menu
Pictures (*)
My Albums
Select "In microSD"
Select your ringer (should be all white)
Options
Copy/Move

If it lets you copy, it will play as a ringtone.

If you don't have Quicktime Pro, install the trial. Then obtain a valid serial number and the trial will turn into Pro. I attached a one second video from the phone to start with.

I used ##786# to reset my phone and ##3282# to change my internet settings. Opera works so much better than the Sprint browser.

Posted by: Panther37

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (MobilePhone SCP-8400/US/1.0) NetFront/3.3 MMP/2.0)

You will also need to get your phones six digit password from Sprint. I suggest telling them your phones MSID got screwed up and when you make a call it wants to charge you money. If They tell you to type in ##xxxxxx#, XXXXXX is your phones password.

any word yet on disabling the NAI so we can use as a bluetooth modem?

Posted by: Panther37

I'm not good like that. Use the ##3282# code.

This isn't really exploitation, but can someone help me zoom my camera??

I feel pretty "simple" needing to ask this question, but I have not been able to figure it out yet. While the camera is running, what do I do to zoom in and zoom out? Thanks for any help!

Posted by: TMKSilenced

I figured out the quicktime ordeal.

the audio quality is so horible and its real quiet after I transfer it to my phone. Maybe this has to do with using an mp3 as the input file format??? the mp3 file had great audio quality but after it converts it to .3gpp2 it is horrible.

anyone get any good results out of this method that was posted. if so, post some details.

In the Pic settings for zoom to work you need to make the quality less than 1.3 Mpix. Zoom doesn't work for 1.3 setting. Dumb huh?

ok. but should the ringtone be in any specific format to begin with? mono? 8 bit?

Posted by: coonass

can you use some other program, other than the Quicktime Pro. plus, how would i get a code to turn the trial into Pro?

Posted by: Panther37

You can use another program. The format doesn't matter much, though I'd mix it down to mono since there's only one speaker.

www.astalavista.com is a great securities site.

panther37 can you work on the bluetooth stuff it dosent work all the time thanks for any help

Posted by: coonass

OK, here is what happened to me. i used wavepad to convert an mp3 into a 28 sec. aac file. used rumkin to upload it to the 8400, downloaded it and my phone tells me that "A handler is needed to use this content type".

??????????????????????????? what is going on here?

Posted by: faux panda

hey ummm...for free ringtones...you can just cut up a MP3 and use rumkin uploader...yeh...sooooo much easier than using Quicktime

Yes you can, if you have a data plan. If not, a 500Kb file at $.03 per Kb would cost you $15 to upload using rumkin. Using Quicktime it's free if you have no data plan...

Posted by: faux panda

well thats lame of you to get a multimedia phone and not have a data plan.

Posted by: coonass

appreciate the extra info on kb transfers. BUT, what about the message on the phone? what type of handler would i need to download. the phone wont let me use the aac file, it shows it as audio but only lets me put it in the others folder...

Any Help?

How so? I use my M1 as an MP3 player with music I have loaded and I have movies and TV shows playing with the media player. I'm using it as a multimedia phone, just not paying Sprint any more money than I have to. Since I have 4 lines of service, it gets expensive.

Posted by: coonass

is there another media shop that will work, like quicktime, i can use to convert the clips over? preferably Free....

Posted by: Chowee21

so can we just use iTunes to convert the ringtones to acc?

and if so, how exactly should i put them on the phone? can i bluetooth them or if i have to put them in a certain diretory on the sd card, what is that directory?

Posted by: Freak4Dell

Yeah, you can use iTunes to convert them, but you're going to need to upload them after that. Putting them on the SD card won't work, and neither will sending them via Bluetooth.

Posted by: Chowee21

that sucks!

Posted by: coonass

OK,

i finally got the drag/drop and transfer to work. i see it on my phone and it will not copy/move.

i followed the instructions at the beginning of this thread and everything worked great, but i cannot assign it.....

this is what i'm doing to assing it as a ringer:
settings
sounds
ringer type
voice calls
no caller ID
videos
my albums
In MicroSD
>>>> I SEE THE FILE and SELECT<<<<<<
upon pressing OK, it tells me that " This File Cannot Be Set "................

What am i doing wrong? HELP PLEASE.

Please help me out, i really want to get this custom ringer thing working for me.

Thanks

Posted by: ljs3000

I could never get the files to copy/move over from the SD card to the phone either but it's no big deal as you can leave them on the SD card.

Make sure your files are less than 500Kb in size. If they are larger than that you cannot set them as ringtones.
