The phone is supported. TomTom works on UIQ3. The website is wrong.

Posted by: benchmade42

Yes it is supported, i am running TomTom Navigator 6 on my M600i and it is perfect,

when you get the cd you get 4 versions,

Now, there are four versions of the application.

1) for Palm
2) for PocketPC
3) for S60 3rd edition
4) for Symbian UIQ 3rd edition

I dunno what TomTom is playing and not posting UIQ 3rd edition on their compatibility list in the website, but no worries because it is compatible.

The website is correct. The phone ISN'T supported. Whilst you can install the software, if you call TomTom they WONT help you.

any of you guys know if I get maps of japan on tomtom? looking to go to japan and korea in the next couple of month. .having it would be very handy.

Posted by: merlin=27

I have just had tomtom navigator 6 delivered but on SD card - none of which fit my new m600i. The supplier said I could copy frolm the SD disk to the phone but I have no idea how to! Any clues?

Posted by: benchmade42

i said before that if you are going to get tomtom 6, you should get the one where the map and the software is stored in a dvd not sd card.

Did you buy the U.S version or Western Europe Version?

Posted by: merlin=27

I bought the Western Europe version. Realise now that DVD would have been allot better but the supplier assured me it was simple enough to copy over..........

Posted by: merlin=27

managed to copy all of tomtom 6 onto my m600i [read the sd card supplied onto a micro stick. Now cannot get tomtom to launch!

Posted by: artesea

Did you copy all the folders, including those which are hidden?

Posted by: merlin=27

no evidence of hidden files. As I try to install tomtom - it says 'cannot find specified memory stick'. Its definitely in there.............

Posted by: benchmade42

merlin, the file for UIQ 3 version is 6.20 and the others are 6.10, double check that

But this was on a dvd version that i bought not on sd card, so i dunno if the 6.20 version for the sd card is included

Posted by: merlin=27

many thanks benchmade. seems I've got version 6.01 that's not agreeing with my m600i. I'll send it back and get a DVD version me thinks. Is it simply a case of laoding DVD into laptop and squirting into the phone?

Posted by: benchmade42

just install TomTom Home first and from there you can transfer and install files to your p990 or m600

Posted by: artesea

with the DVD you run TomTom home, tell it you have a UIQ3 phone and it'll copy the software to your memory card. then insert the card in to the phone which will then prompt you to install the software. it's pretty simple.

Posted by: mr ness

what do you think is the minimum memory needed for this.

i got a 128mb

Posted by: artesea

You could just about get the maps of GB with a voice file onto a 128 card, however I would recommend at least a 512 and if you want the full Europe map you'll need at least a 1gig card.
I've got mine installed on a 1gig, and also have around 100 photos, plus 6 albums so it's all round practical.

Posted by: mr ness

cool. im gonna have to buy another memory card then

thanx

Posted by: TheOfficeMaven

Just to let folks know, TomTom v6 works just fine on the new W950i as well. Even though the W950i doesn't have a memory stick (it has 4 GB of internal media memory instead), it still installs like a champ. Way to go TomTom!

Posted by: merlin=27

Help - how do I transfer files from laptop to memory card for m600i. Then, how do I get the application [Tomotom 6] to open?

Posted by: artesea

Either a memory stick reader or use the phone in File Transfer mode via the USB.
Once the files are on the memory stick, insert it into your phone and then you'll be prompted to install.

Hi,

I have tried to follow instructions posted on net regarding how to install Tom Tom Navigator 6 on my W950i but cannot seem to get it to work. I would be grateful if you would do an idiots guide on the installation for me as I must be overlooking something.

Whilst on Fast File Transfer mode USB I have copied ALL files and folders (incl. hidden files/folders) from the installation SD software onto my phone's root directory. TomTom Home recognises that the software is on the device (W950i) and I have then removed the USB cable and the W950i prompts to install the software.

But after this is completed. I do not know where to run the navigation software or know that it is completed properly.

Please help.

Many thanks in advance,
Sohail

I got the tomtom dvd version but when i try to install the software it doesnt give me the option to do so. I tried installing via the phone and the memory card reader and the install button just doesn't flash up.

PLEASE HELP SOMEONE

Posted by: mr ness

sorry dont worry about me, i got it. ad it works fine.

Posted by: merlin=27

Good to hear you got it going on the dvd version - can you give me a quick heads-up as to how you managed to get it to install? It keeps telling me that it may not be compatible and then fails to install.......

Posted by: mr ness

All i did was install everything on the dvd to the memory card. After i done that i opened the drive that the memory card was in and double clicked the tomtom home icon. Once i did that it in turn asked what hardware im gonna use it on, so i picked UIQ3. It then offered an updated version which i accepted, then once it finished i took out the memory card put it in my phone (P990i), went to tools found the tomtom icon, tapped on it and it ran perfect.

Hope that helped

Hi All

First ever post been lurking a while . After searching and reading as much info as poss can someone please tell me how to access the root directory to intall Tom Tom files .When using pc suite file manager you have Phone Memory and Media Memory when trying to copy to Phone Memory (not to folder) it comes up with "Operation is not allowed" . Also when using Fast File transfer I cannot access File mangager I have to use normal mode. Had no problems with tomtom on my p910i

Thanks
David

is gps free by any chance, sorry for hte noobie questions. i just heard so many people talking about gps, im going ot try it with my p990 but when u get the pgoram do u hv to pay for hte service or it just automatically work

Posted by: artesea

Once you've purchased a GPS receiver, you don't need to pay anything else to pick up a signal.

Posted by: xinhang

really?, wow thats awsome. so p990 can act like a gps reciever?

Posted by: artesea

With a P990i you'll need two things:
1) Bluetooth GPS device (my Holux GPSlim236 was £45)
2) GPS Software (TomTom is around £100, Nav4All is free, others in between)

Posted by: darkmarc

Been using my M600i with Navigator 6 and a Holux 236 GPS for a while now. Most of the time it works perfectly, but recently I activated the TomTom PLUS services in the application, mainly to be able to use the TomTom Buddies feature. Upon activation, I entered my TomTom PLUS username and password. The phone then nicely did a 3G data connection and registered the account correctly.

But now every time I try to use a feature that requires data connection, like Traffic or Buddies, I get a plain error dialog saying "Not ready". TomTom then hangs and I have to kill it using the task manager. The error dialog looks like a standard UIQ3 message, so it's probably not from TomTom.

I am using the latest firmware in the phone and all other data enabled applications work fine. Anyone else with this problem or similar? I doubt I can call TomTom support and get help, since UIQ3 is not officially supported..

Thanks!

Lie and say you own a W950 (as that IS supported)

Posted by: KCY

Hello guys,
I need a help real quick!!!
I tried to install TomTom Nav.6 on my M600i, but my 1G M2 got full before complete installing. So, I gave up to install TomTom. I then tried to delete all files on M2, but I couldn't.
It keeps saying "Could not delete file or folder. The operation is not supported".

When I tried to do the same on the device side, it says" One or several files or folders cannot be deleted".

How can I delete these files on M2??

btw, is it necessary to copy all files on M2 to install TomTom? because it's too heavy so.

Please help me. Thank you,

Posted by: 14two10

I'm having the same problem with my M600i. When I drag the TomTom files onto the root of the M2 card using File Manager, I get an "Operation is not supported" message, and then it fails to copy any of the files to the card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Posted by: chmusar

Hi

You need to use fast File transfer FFT mode so you get mass media storage on your windows explorer ( w950i has this option when you put it in the docking station)

Hope this helps

Posted by: KCY

yes, FFT. That's what i found out later.
But, is it neccesary to copy all of the contents on DVD?
It will make my M2 full so.

Posted by: chmusar

hi

I only have the folowing folders on my w950i
TomTom
Great Britain Map ( or whatever map you are using)
Zip
Voices
Raster
Schemes
Licences
ITN
Resource

Voices take up a lot of room as well as POI (places of interest)

If you are using a original tomtom dvd there should be a installer with it as you need the UIO3 version of Tom Tom 6 .

Cheers

Posted by: KCY

@chmusar

I don't have a original DVD, so the installer doesn't work.
So, I don't know which folder is not neccessary.

If I install Voice files, does is work as a car navigation with a voice?
Is it ok not to install those?

Posted by: chmusar

hi, yes you need to install voice files and put them in the voice folder for them to work. i would not advise using tomtom without voices for directions as you can end up looking at the screen instead of the road !!!

here is a list of the voice files only copy the ones you need.

@chmusar
Thank youfor your res!
btw, how large capacity do I need to copy the full contents?
I failed to copy using 1G M2 before. Did I copy unnecessary files?

Posted by: artesea

KCY, depends on the map of choice.
Map of Europe or US will fill a 1G card.
Map of Country or State should be fine.

I've successfully got the United Kingdom and Ireland with several voices on to a 1GB card with lots of room spare.

Posted by: ConMoto Style

How does the program run on the M600? Does it run as smoothly as a normal standalone GPS system or is it laggy? Can I actually depend on this thing/take it seriously? Thanks!

Posted by: artesea

I haven't run it on the M600, but on the P990 it runs perfectly. Just make sure that you don't have anything else running in the background (music player, push email).

Posted by: Mrsash

Can you guys tell me if Sony W880 is compatible please
thanks

Posted by: artesea

Well as the W880 isn't a UIQ phone it's not possible. The only sony's you can use are the P990i, M600i and the W950i.

Posted by: Mrsash

thanks mate

Posted by: ken.vs.ryu

what happened to the pictures?

i'm going to get an m600i because of this.

Posted by: n0m0n

I have a Treo with TomTom6 (for Palm).
I am awaiting my P990i to come a knocking at the door any minute now.

While waiting I have searched the TomTom CD that came with the kit and have not found any app that references UIQ3 or Symbian.

Does this mean that I can not use TomTom6 with my P990i, or do I need to get the main app for a UIQ3, and still have all the maps and data?

If I only need the app where do I find it and since it it the minor of the TomTom6 kit does anyone know if there will be a charge?

Any direction will be welcomed.
As you can tell I am BRAND SPANKING NEW to the world of Symbian OS's.

Thank you
