Yup, if you go to Sony Ericsson's website, you'll find the info and software needed to download updated firmware for the w810i. I just recently updated mine through SE, and it was quite easy and quick. The thing I noticed first about the update was the phone went through menus quicker, doesn't lag anymore when exiting the walkman player while still playing a song, just overall faster.

I went there the other day and did the program said my phone was up to date. Do you think it was a new release or is your phone an older unbranded one?

The latest firmware release by SE is R4EA031. My phone is unbranded, and came with older firmware.

How long did it take to do the update? I did it last night and the updating screen didn't change for 2 1/2 hours. Finally I disconnected the phone and luckily it seems the firmware update worked. Can't figure out what when wrong with the PC app though.

It took me like 10-12 minutes I think.

What does it do when it is complete? Mine never finished.

It told me to disconnect my phone from the USB cable, I don't know the exact words, but thats pretty much it. Oh, and turn the phone on

Or you can go into the menu > settings > general > update service > software version.
