Can't get WiFi to work with outlook or activesync

Been looking on the forum for 2 hours and not seeing a solution

Just got the 8125 with the unlimited data plan (which I want to drop and just use wifi...)

WHENEVER I try to send and recieve mail, Sync, or use directpush it connects to the GPRS network and downloads the mail... What is the deal?

Also on my setup there is no "use a proxy server" setting... at least I can't find it where the posts say it is.

Any help would be appreciated

OK I've managed to set up a bogus network profile and select that... So that stops the phone from using cingular's network... but that also seems to knock out the scheduled email cabability?

press the comm manager button (the one next to the volume switch and looks like a speaker)

enable the wifi

Start -> Settings -> Connections button -> Wireless LAN

Click Menu and select Network Cards

Click Add New

Then Configure the Network key

Click Ok

I spent two solid evenings trying to get it to use WiFi. But when I hit enable direct push it picks up the GPRS/EDGE connection. Comm manager then promptly disconnects GPRS because WiFi is enabled, and the two fight over the GPRS conneciton (up/down/up/down) until I cancel.
I for one want to be able to use both. WiFi takes over for "the internet" connection, and when it's disconnected, everthing goes over GPRS. But direct push insists on going over GPRS only which it can not do while I'm connected to WiFi. It's odd, it's as if it's broken.
I didn't set up a dummy network profile because I still want to use GPRS when available. I've just given up and I turn off direct push before I turn on WiFi, otherwise bad things happen.
I may hard-reset the device and monkey around with network settings until I figure something else out.

SlickNSex, geting Wifi to work isn't the problem. Direct Push just refuses to use it when it's there.

This is a known configuration. DirectPush only works over GPRS/EDGE (or your appropriate cell network). It doesn't work over standard network connections, whether it is WiFi or RNDIS via your USB cable when physically connected. This is a limitation of DirectPush.

If you are long stretches of being in WiFi, just change your ActiveSync settings to a timed interval (5 minutes or so) and you will get email. I know it's a pain but it works.

I think I have the exact opposite problem. I can only get activesync to connect to my exchange server if I'm connected to a wi-fi network (other than connecting via usb). How do I fix that?

This simply is not true. I sync via WiFi all the time without problems.

Sync'ing via WiFi to ActiveSync running on a PC (that is, regular ActiveSync versus Exchange ActiveSync) doesn't work in the more recent versions of ActiveSync, but sync'ing with an Exchange server via WiFi works fine.

Looking into it ... it appears that as long as I don't attempt "directpush" over wifi... a pity

Clearification on this...

ActiveSync will SYNC over Wifi with no problem. It'll also do timed interval syncs no problem.. it works over WiFi, GPRS, or USB.

But DirectPUSH will ONLY work over GPRS. At least on my 8125 it refuses to use anything other than GRPS/EDGE. At least on my 8125.

Even I think I mispoke in a previous post. these two operations need to be separated for this conversation.

Thanks RF9. To th other poster, as I said above, DirectPush does not work over WiFi. ActiveSync works on any network connection. DirectPush, as found in AKU2 and above, only works over the Cellular connection.
