Cingular 3125 Reception

I am having a very difficult time receiving signal for my 3125. I can stand next to a person with a Cingular phone and they are getting three or four bars and I am getting one bar or the "searching" message. I sent my first 3125 back to Cingular Wireless for a replacement and my new one does just the same thing. I even tried a new SIM card (the 3G card) and it made no difference. I tested it near the strongest spot in our area where there is a tower within one mile and I got two bars. An external antenna does raise it about a bar but I can't carry that with me. I've tried rebooting numerous time but that has no effect. The tech people at Cingular don't seem to know what to tell me. I would appreciate any help because I really love this phone. Thank you.

This is my experience with the 3125. First, the bars don't seem to be a good guide as to signal - they are very stingy. However, there are places where I can make a call with my Nokia where the 3125 struggles, both using the same card. When the 3125 loses the signal it takes longer to aquire it again than other phones I have had. From reading reviews on the internet, that seems to be a trait of smartphones and PDA phones. On the flip side, when it shows only the one dot under the little antenna I can usually still make a call.
