KRZR!!! QUESTION for verizon

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok..i was wondering if you can make a ringtone..(mp3 format ofcourse).attach it to an e-mail..and send it to the phone..is this possible??? I been doing this for my e815 which is way more efficient compare to buying 99 cent ringtone from the "get it now"...it works for e815 but not the razr...so i'm wondering if for the krzer would work..
Thanks

sorry dude, you can send it and the phone will recieve it. But it automatically gets saved to "My Sounds" and can't be used as a ringtone.

I've tried an OBEX xfer w/ bluetooth, same result: the file automatically gets routed to the "My Sounds" folder.

Hopefully, an idiots guide to seem editing the K1m will be released soon. It'll be my first attempt at doing any such thing.

actually you can send an MP3 ringtone to the KRZR via the email, you know attach the file and sendto your number @vzwpix.com. then once you recieve the rinntone you open the message and as the ringtone is playing, press the options button and go to save, then it will save the ringtone in the correct spot. So it will be there under my ringtones. I have the KRZR too, and it took a little bit to figure this out. try it, this is what worked for me. They key is to save it while the ringtone is be played. let me know if this worked for you

It worked!

awsome tip. I just wanna add one clarification: make sure the file has the ".mp3" extension. I was used to renaming them to ".mid" for my e815, so it took me a couple of tries to finally figure out what I was doing wrong..

also..so i assume the KRZR would work...how about the razr???same way. My friend has a razr...and i did the e-mail thing magik with the file being .mp3 extension and very small...(bout 15 sec)...and it didn't work cause when i opened it on the phone..there is no song playing at all...??0.0...help?? plz..and thanks for the people who helped me already with krazr

im glad that it worked for you. i would imagine that it would work that way for the razr too, but i dont own one so i wouldnt know.

I tried your suggestion, but the mp3 was saved in the "My sounds" folder - not the ringtones. Does the mp3 file need to be in some special format like mono or 128kbs, etc?
Thanks youro help

Does anyone know if you can put ringtones on via MPT with the krzr? I know for my razr v3c I just used the v3 profile on MPT instead of the v3c to get it to allow me to transfer my ringtones. So I was wondering if you could use the k1 profile instead of a k1m profile...

Message #73 tells you how to do it using P2KCommander and Motorola Software Update utility

Honestly, I don't know the exact specs the .mp3 has to have. They were left over from my e815. So I'm going to suggest that you find out the method of creating your own ringtones with Audacity, then skip the renaming to .mid part. Try to keep the file under 300Kb, 30 sec., and 128Kbps.

I tried what jwest said, but when i went to download the pic message, it said it was unable to download the message. any suggestions?

its posted in a few places that you are limited to certain size (around 300k but I can't rememebr the exact amount). you can use MSU and P2commander but your personalized ringtones will reset since you have to delete a DB file. Not that it matters since personalized ringtones don't work if you use vibrate and ring on the K1M anyways.

And then theres the other ringtone bug...

I tried sending MP3's (chopped down to 30 sec to be used as a ringtone, of course) to my phone via P2K Commander and it always sent the file to the My Sounds which rendered it un-useable as a ringtone.

What I did is copied the file from my phone to my TransFlash memory card...and then from the memory card I was able to MOVE it back to the phone into the right position (not in My Sounds) so it could be used as a ringtone. Then I deleted the copy of the file that was in the My Sounds folder...

I tried it and it works for me.

Try to follow the official guide below on how to copy ringtones to the right location (a/motorola/shared/rington/), delete a/MyToneDB.db, and reboot the phone.

It's not K1m's problem. K1m is powerful. But Verizon had Moto limit the UI, so that they can make $$ on ringtones, themes, etc.

As such... MPT is only useful for uploading/updating phonebook and calendar. Even K1m's bluetooth can't transfer files between handset and pc, handset to handset.

P2Kcommander made the ringtone upload possible. But I'm still thinking to reflash my K1m While to Alltel firmware.
