Anyone have new news on the Motorola v365 PTT phone? I hear that it may drop next week, but that is only hear say...

Posted by: brody4

i would like some info also

Posted by: Lil Moshi

If you go one the hellomoto site its there also..

Posted by: b1gtymer76

Yes I am using one for cingular right now. The speaker sound quality blows away any other PTT device that is currently in the cingular line up. The device looks and feels more durable then the rest also. On top of having PTT it has expandable memory up to 1GB using a microSD, great battery life and vivid display.

thanks for the info..... you got a release date ?... can you post some pics of this phone with the cingular branding

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

Better yet, how did you get one so early? Are you testing?

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

And do you have any idea of the price with and without a contract?

$249.99 without a contract

Posted by: b1gtymer76

In Nor Cal Motorola did a road show and they gave away something like 50 of the phones and I was lucky enough to win one. During the road show they said that they were being shipped to cingular this week and would be out within a week or so. I will post pics soon

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

Thanks for the info. I look foward to the pics...

Posted by: StattlichPassat

Bump for updates! Any new news? Rumors? Hearsay? I've got a fleet of V557s out in the field that need replacing soon and this seems like the best bet.

Posted by: goober1965

Received the launched annoucement this morning saying arriving as early as tomorrow at Cingular locations.

2-yr - $99.99

1-yr - $ 174.99

No Commitment - $249.99

After $20 Feature discount

MicroSD memeory card expandable up to 2 Gig

Posted by: brody4

thanks 4 the info.

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

Good looking out! I didnt think it would be so expensive ($249.99), but its all good. Does Cingular still let you bill a phone to your account?

Posted by: StattlichPassat

Will this have a USB interface or the old two-prong interface for charging, a-la V557?

Posted by: b3peter

I looked at the user manual and it shows USB for the charging port.

Posted by: StattlichPassat

Crap. Somebody with one in here just told me yesterday it had the legacy interface.

Sucks, because I've got probably 100+ proprietary car kits using that platform (that were installed before I got this job- I have since ordered every truck pre-installed with a Bluetooth kit at the dealership prior to delivery), and only about forty V557s left in my inventory. This is gonna be an expensive loss. Fork.

ITS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED TODAY 10/26/06

99 bucks its sku 64551 its coming soon to a store near you

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

I just odered mine off of the Premier website. Should get it Friday!

Posted by: cuidinsider

me too lol its gonna burn that 525 u got buddy LOL its speakers are so loud and crisp
lol it makes nextel sound like its underwater lol

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

I am so glad to hear that. I love my z525, but whats the point of having PTT if you cant hear out of the speakerphone...

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

The v365 looks like a keeper, but if the BB Pearl will be out before my 30 days are up (if the Pearl in fact has PTT), I may have to exchange...

Posted by: brody4

good looking out ppl...... why didnt a mod sticky this phone?

Posted by: jrsmooth

So is this a quad-band or tri-band? Premier states both, but Phonescope says triband.

Posted by: jettaguy87

The v365 I played with showed Tri-Band GSM. I thought that was kinda odd that it wasn't quad but it probably isn't that big of a deal. It is a fat little sucker though.

Wirelessly posted (PG-C300/R01 MIC/1.1.14 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

when might we see this phone available in cingular stores?

Posted by: xbox360gamer

they've already shown up in COR stores in the central FL area. an orange store near my house received three of them today. my initial impression of the phone can be summed up in one word: CHEAP!

but then again, it is a Motorola so I cant expect too much.

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

Man...I am so disappointed to hear that. If that is the case, I will ship it back ASAP for the Pearl or LG PTT phones when they come out...

Posted by: dispatcher307

My account rep got the code yesterday but she wasn't able to order it. She was told maybe not until Tuesday. It's on the Cingular website, but only in the business section - and it says you have to call for ordering information.

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

Well, I got it today. I will have more to write later, but for now lets say that is bigger than normal, and it is not as loud as I thought. The speakerphone on my wife's D407 has better clarity...the Moto is just a little louder. I may send it back and wait on the LG PTT phone or the Pearl (if it has PTT).

Theres a new lg ptt?

the chunkiness of this phone is one of the reasons why i'm hesitating to get it.

let us know how you like it!

Does it have SCREEN3?

Posted by: bmega

Is the V365 just as hackable as the other V-Series phones?

Posted by: brody4

yes it does have screen3

I won't have mine until tomorrow but I looked at the manual and I don't see anything about SCREEN3. Do you have the phone and know from experience?

Posted by: Dtwitch19

After I posted the question, I noticed on Motorola's website that the phone does have SCREEN3.

Posted by: Eric5273

What's the deal with Screen3?? Last year when they introduced the new MediaNet, they made it out to be the greatest thing ever. But since then, it has only been on one phone (V557), which is not even sold anymore. Did they decide to scrap it??

I don't see on the Motorola website where it has SCREEN3. Anyone have the phone yet and can verify?

Posted by: Eric5273

Can anyone comment on whether you can use the speaker phone with the flip closed? I don't mean using it for PTT, but for a regular voice call.

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

Yes. You can use speakerphone while closed...

Thanks for the info. Can you answer a call on speakerphone without opening the flip first, or do you have to open the flip?

Posted by: Dtwitch19

It has SCREEN3 per the Motorola website, but Cingular has a program that allows the "ticker" to be used on their phones, and the V557 is the only one that uses it right now. The PTT works great!! If Cingular made more phones with PTT and pushed it a little harder, goodbye Nextel!

Posted by: bmega

Got mine today. ($149.00 directly from Motorola.) So far I am very happy with it. The outer speaker IS significantly louder and better quality than the V3,557,551,400 phones that I have had. I called a friend and he said (without me even asking) that the speakerphone was much better. I could hear him much better and he said he could hear me much better. He made that comment twice during the conversation. The earpiece volume is a little louder than previous Motorolas I've had, but the difference is not nearly as significant as the increased external speaker volume. Plus, when I had the external speaker all the way up at 7 there was no distortion at all. Very impressive. Also new, you can hold down the # key and switch to vibrate mode quickly then toggle back to whichever mode you had it on before. The camera seems about the same as others, I don't use it that much. I don't have push to talk so I can't comment on that. I keep it in my pocket and it is a bit thicker than the V557, but its not a deal breaker unless you're someone who wears tight fitting pants. It has a solid vibrate. Not weak at all, but not the strongest I've felt. The outer "smart key" on other V series models is replaced by the PTT button on this one. Of course, same old Moto UI, I haven't noticed any big changes there. I like the now-standard USB port charger. It does have a little cap that stays flipped-up when you are charging it. I guess that is important if you have the phone is really dusty environments regularly. I'm going to keep playing with it and post anything new I find.

would you mind posting a link to buy it directly from moto?

Edit:
Never mind i found it myself:
http://motorola.digitalriver.com/DR...ductID=50457900

So ptt worked fine even though you didnt buy it through cingular???

Posted by: Eric5273

The one you buy from Motorola is the Cingular branded one. It is not an unlocked model. It's the same one you could buy in a Cingular store.

I went in to the local Cingular store tonight. They didn't have a display model, but the salesperson got one from the back and let me play around with it for about 10 minutes. My thoughts:

1) It feels great in the hand. I really like the black rubber surface. Very easy to hold. It's not that thick at all. As was said above, maybe a tiny bit thicker than the V551/557 models. However, it loses the antenna that those phones had, and also is a bit narrower.

2) The UI still seems a bit sluggish, and not any faster than my L2, which is a bit disappointing since this seemed like a more feature-packed phone. It still took a fairly long time to launch the Mobile Email program which I use quite often.

3) I like how they put the Mobile Email and IM icons on the same sub menu. I use those quite often, and sometimes they bury them in weird places on some of the phones.

4) EDGE seems like a very nice improvement. Compared to my L2, the web loaded much faster, and the larger screen resolution made MediaNet appear to be much more usable.

5) PTT seems like such a cool thing, but I don't know anyone who has it, so of course I will probably not end up using it. I think if Cingular continues to release more and more PTT phones, then people will start to subscribe to it.

6) I'd have to imagine that between the huge battery, and monochrome external screen, battery life on this thing must be outrageous.

I think I'm going to end up getting this phone. I don't have many choices. I need something compatible with my BMW bluetooth system in my X5, and the only phones that seem to be 100% consistantly compatible are Motorolas. I think it has something to do with the fact that Motorola makes the system for BMW. In any case, this phone is the only motorola that has EDGE and both the Mobile Email and AIM programs. So it should work well for me.

Posted by: ceric20

go to motorola's web site and you can get the phone for 140 with out a contract

Posted by: usgpindy

I need to know how hackable this phone might be.
Currently have v276 w/ Verizon. It's a great phone, but incredibly crippled as far as custom ringtones, wallpapers, and file transfers in general.

Can anyone tell me more? What Cingular phones, if not this one, allow a better degree of cusomizing?

Posted by: bmega

So far I've made a couple of hacks without any problems. It's the same UI as the other V series phones so more of the same type hacking shouldn't be a problem.

Posted by: bmega

$119.00 W/O contract at hellomoto.com it just went 20% off.

Has anyone noticed that the V365 keypad backlight sensor keeps the backlight off until VERY low light conditions? Side by side with the V557 and V3i the backlight stays off while other handsets turn the keypad backlight on in medium light. Maybe a battery saving feature?

Posted by: Eric5273

I think I'm going to get this phone. Just one more question for someone that has the phone...

Can you play MP3s through the external speaker with the flip closed?

He doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm a Nokia snob and think the V365 is a plenty well-built phone. For a Motorola, I'm impressed- solid handset.

We have close to five hundred V551 and V557s out in the field, and the V365 was the clear, logical replacement a couple weeks ago when I made the standardization move. I really enjoyed testing the V365- the reception, sound quality and battery life are all superb. And the build quality seems outstanding as well, with the same big keys and Motorola GUI that our field guys need and are used to. It's a winner.

I've had the V365 for 10 days ($99 at Cingular Store w/2 yr renewal) and I just checked it by playing an MP3 ringtone in the My Stuff/Audio directory. You can start it playing and then close the phone and it will continue to play. I hope that answers your question.

I hope to edit some music I have, save them as MP3's (using Audacity) and then upload them to the 512 MB MicroSD (bought last week separately) to use as ringtones. According to a posting at the T-Mobile forum discussing the V360 (the earlier vsn of this phone), this is very easy to do using a fairly common USB cable and Windows XP without getting any software or cable from Motorola (they want $30-50 depending whether you buy the cable).

General comments: battery life is far superior to the V180 I had. Volume & sound quality from the external speaker is good making speakerphone practical. Sound reproduction and volume from the "regular" headphone speaker is very good. I really like the brightness, color and resolution of the screen. Camera is ho-hum, which doesn't matter to me. It would be great without a camera. PTT is irrelevant for me. I'm hoping that it will prove to be sturdy because I have dropped my cell phone in the past. It looks pretty solid and has a good heft.

I think it will get somewhere around a 7.6 to 8.0 from the reviewers at CNET and elsewhere.

I'm not a Gonzo cell phone user like so many posters here, but I think it's worth considering unless you really hate Moto phones. (I had a Cingular sales rep tell me that Nokia had better reception/sensitivity.)

Does anyone have an informed opinion on that Moto vs. Nokia issue?

PJG

Here's a bump...also posted in the Moto forums but I figured I should post it here too since I am using this w/Cingular (business account).

I just picked up the phone and I must say i'm completely impressed w/it. I was looking to upgrade the phones at my job and was wanting to go to a walkie talkie type cell (6 of us in our department). I already had a Cingular account and they offered 4 phones w/ptt features (SE, LG, Moto & 1 other). I was really leaning towards the SE PTT phone because we've used Moto's in the past in our dept and reception was always an issue out in the field. But a google search & research here pointed me towards this phone...plus Cingular gave me a buy 1 get 1 free deal so I was able to get 6 for the price of 3 (@ $150.00 each/2yr renewal).

Razor family aside, which i've never used, all my Moto's have been flips (V70 sort of a flip) and this one takes the cake! Reception has been excellent, speaker is nice and loud (a good loud, not a distorted loud), battery life is top notch!! Size wise, with thin being in, this phone doesn't make me nervous when i'm handling it like other, thinner phones. And PTT is all that I expected it to be (i'm able to ptt my coworkers in buildings where we previously would get no reception w/a call). UI has not really been upgraded over previous Moto's but it's improved. It's a work phone for me so all my cell phone fun is reserved for my N73. I feel like I got much more than what I was expecting w/this phone and the PTT feature makes this phone a definite winner!

Posted by: CoolCSI

I don't use PTT, but it's a great phone! Better then the V551 & v557.

Posted by: ceno

Superb battery life and the voice quality and volume levels are on par with my landline phone. It may not be as media/camera savvy as other models, but with volume/voice being this good, who cares!

I need a phone to be a phone first and foremost.

The only phone that would make me happier is to see a Nextel mil-spec version of a GSM phone come onboard.

Thats called the i920 & i930. But they are 1900 only which is perfect for T-mobile and ok for cingular depending on where u r located..
In my city the 1900 works pretty darn well while u stay outside and within the city limits. Once i get into large bldgs / department stores / solid block apartment bldgs, i loose complete coverage... or if i travel outside the city limits aka boonies.
Nextel and T-mobile have bad coverage in my city so i cant go back with them. Verizon i never had so i cant comment

I just got mine last week and NO u CANNOT answer the phone with the flip closed...
Now on with what i think about this phone.
Battery life is AMAZING. Very 1st charge gave me 5 solid days of use. The UI is MUCH improved from my old V551. My V551's menu surfing was so slow it was irritating.. This V365 surf's thru the menu fast and with ease.
It plays mp4's with ease and no need for a firmware flash. This phone is VERY thick which im still trying to get used to, but it is VERY LIGHT in weight. Im shocked of how light it is considering how thick it is...
They added a new feature where it will vibrate & ring at the same time unlike the previous models... where it vibrated 1st then rang.
Signal on this sucker is impressive. At the local target store here with other gsm phones i own, they will go in and out of service cause the signal is weak. But with this V365, it never went below 2 bars. So after realizing that i had 2 bars the entire time and i never went out of service i decided to make a call and stay on it during the entire time i was in the store.. No drops, no cutting out, the call stayed clear the entire time from start to finish.. Impressive.!!
Mostly everything about this phone im happy about except for one thing which is the MAIN reason why i bought this phone...
Im not sure why people say this sucker has a loud speakerphone. Its not all that great. I compared it to my 6 other gsm phones and it was the same. Even the V551 matched up to the volume on this V365. And also, when playing mp3's... people say it does not get distorted even at high volume.... well dahhh, it doesnt go loud enough to distort..!! It plays... but serioulsy.. its not that loud. And reading that it suppositly has a new high quality speakerphone... i think they forgot to put that in.. or maybe they put that high quality sucker in another phone by accident.. Or maybe it SUPER loud when used with PTT. But i can tell u that its not very loud during voice calls nor playing mp3's...
Im not sure what phones u guys are comparing this one too, but to u guys that say this is loud.... Im just not hearing it. My Nokia 6270 BLOWS this sucker away when it comes to speakerphone volume.
When i 1st opened up the phone i immediately made a call and switched to speakerphone and heard it at volume 7... my 1st comment was WTF... are u serious...?? This is a JOKE...
Im done.. im now thinking of getting the Nokia 6131 to see how loud that sucker is, thats another phone that everyone says has a LOUD speakerphone..
