Haha, I just did that because I saw someone was doing it. LOL Does it bother you? Oh well, Like I said, I do use the full bandwidth most of the time so......

No, it doesn't bother me at all. I'm actually glad speeds like that are becoming available for home use - it just furthers things along, making home-hosted services more and more likely, that is IF they'd provide more upstream bandwidth.

I am just curious how people use that much bandwidth. I don't see it happening on a regular basis.

Posted by: Ishimaru

I use that much bandwidth regularly. As a lot of what I download are FULL HD shows averaging at least 5gigs each. FULL HD movies are at least 13GB.

No kidding? How long does it take to download an HD movie? And where can I find these? Looks like I need to get some more bandwidth!

Posted by: Ishimaru

Newsgroups are what I use. A hour long TV show, takes me an hour to download right now at my 6Mbps connection. And that's about 4gigs. Now a full movie, can take up to 4+ hours. But I usually leave it overnight, so it doesn't bother me any. The HD stuff you find on torrents, etc...usually aren't FULL HD (ie high bitrates, etc...), and Apple trailers are DEFNITELY not FULL HD when the max bitrate is 10mbps. For broadcast HD, 20mbps is what you're looking for, and those are European h264 caps.

Sounds like you and I would get along. Not really - I don't drink beer. But liquor is always welcome!

But back to the topic at hand... Newsgroups you say? I guess it's time to go get some draft-N hardware and exercise my internet connection a bit. (Yeah, I'm running a strictly wireless G shop, with a few dead spots in the livingroom. I don't have the patience for wires and the like.)

Plus I just got a hold of Joost, which I have been watching for a few hours straight now. (It is awesome, I might add.) It isn't HD, but it's interesting programming, that's for sure.

I only drink good beer, nothing domestic! I don't just drink beer, beer is just an easy buzz. I just had some Japanese Choya (plum wine) the other night, VERY good

Posted by: mikewchandler

I prefer coca-cola or orange juice

Posted by: Ishimaru

Well, my "drink to get drunk" days are WAY over. Now it's "drink to get buzzed".

Posted by: richy240

Yeah, my "drink to get drunk" days are long gone. But I still like to have some drinks from time to time. I used to tear it up at least 5 of 7 days a week. Now sometimes I go months without a drink. Weird how priorities change as you grow older. (And I'm only 28!!! Maybe I overdid it a bit in my younger years.)

Posted by: Ishimaru

Or shall I say "drink to enjoy" I'm sure you and I would get along quite well. I'm sure we all would here.

I don't want to go on a rant, here, but America's foreign policy makes about as much sense as Beowulf having sex with Robert Fulton at the first battle of Antietam.
I mean when a neo-conservative defenestrates it's like Raskolnikov filibuster deoxymonohydroxinate.

Agreed. We've got idiots running the show. The Democrat-controlled Congress is a good start (in my opinion), but they're, how shall I say, wussies (I was thinking something a bit stronger - think feline). Not to mention most of them are idiots too. (I wish I could use "bad" language in here - that would help me drive my point home oh so well.)

But Dennis Miller sucks.

We saw a bunch of Copperheads on the Pedernales River near Austin a couple weeks ago. Needless to say, I got out of the river. I am scared to death of snakes.

Posted by: mikewchandler

I understand. I've been educating myself about them b/c I built on 3 acres and am in the woods, have a pond, etc.... I see them alot more often now. I want to teach my boys to have a healthy respect/fear of them but not to freak out. They have already gotten over several fears since we moved out in the country. I think they are much more well rounded now.

snake facts:

1. 80% of snake bits occur when people are trying to kill the snake
2. 19% are when you accidentally step on one or pick it up (ie under a rock)
3. a snake will not chase you down to bite you. If it looks like it is....you are likely b/t it and water or shelter

what to do if you see a snake:

1. stop and watch it, take a step backwards and let it crawl off
2. if it looks like it doesn't see you or is coming in your direction, stomp your feet. When it feels the ground vibrations and realizes you are there, it should stop and/or leave
3. if it doesn't leave, it may be territorial (ie cottonmouth).....just leave

what not to do:

1. don't piss the snake off...trying to kill it....you'll likely get bit and there is likely more out there anyway so why kill just the one?

Posted by: richy240

Quote:

You know, now that you mention it I think this is what we saw on the river. My friends, who have much more experience with the Texas wilderness than I, warned me that the snakes we saw might become aggressive and charge, and that stomping the ground might just additionally agitate it.

Posted by: mikewchandler

yeah, when they charge, it is to "warn" you.....not necessarily "bite" you. They don't want to risk their lives just to get a good bite in. but, regardless, if one is charging me, I'm not hanging around.

I honestly like it better than FF, and it even includes an AdBlocker. I personally like the tabs on the bottom rather than the top, and Opera lets me change that. Memory usage is a little high if I have 10 or more windows open at one time, which I usually do. But on a fast computer, I don't notice any slow-down.

No, I am sick of it too. I hate seeing the commercials even more & cannot wait for the release of this phone. Hopefully it will encourage other companies to get the ball rolling with software upgrades, OS upgrades and the release of new phones.

I really cant wait to be on the subway and watch someone leave their brand new iPhone in their back pocket - sit on it - and crack it in half. I remember the first time I saw that happen with an iPod Video, I felt bad but won't this time.

A man and his wife are in the shower together when the doorbell rings. The wife puts on a robe and goes down to answer the door.

In walks her husband’s friend Ben. The woman tells him her husband’s in the shower and asks if he can come back later. Instead, Ben steps in and quietly says, "I have $400 in my pocket. I’ll give it to you if you’ll open your bathrobe for me." She’s offended, but really needs the money so she agrees, opens her robe, and lets Ben have a quick peek before doing it up again. Ben gives her the $400, and she opens the door for him to leave, but he says, "I have another $400 in my other pocket. I’ll give it to you if you let me touch your breasts." Now she’s really mortified, but again, she needs the money, so she undoes her robe and lets him have a quick feel. Taking the other $400 from him, she lets him out the door.

Going back upstairs, she gets back in the shower with her husband, feeling a little bit guilty.

"Who was that?" the husband asks.

"Oh, that was just Ben," the wife answers.

"Ben?" the husband says. "That son of a ***** owes me 800 bucks!"

I've got a bright red sticker on the back of my car , Says United States Marines , And yesterday a lady in a mini-van held up a middle finger at me Does she think she knows what I stand for Or the things that I believe Just by looking at a sticker for the US Marines On The Bumper Of My SUV

See, my brother Chris, he's been in for more than 14 years now Our dad was in the Navy during Vietnam Did his duty then he got out And my grandpa earned his purple heart On the beach of Normandy That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines On The Bumper Of SUV

But that doesn't mean that I want war , I'm not Republican or Democrat But I've gone all around this crazy world Just to try and better understand

Yes I do have questions , I get to ask them because I'm free , That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines On the Bumper Of My SUV

Cause I've been to Hiroshima And I've been to the DMZ , I've walked on the sand in Baghdad , Still don't have all of the answers I need , But I guess I wanna know where she's been , Before she judges and gestures to me Cause she don't like my sticker For the US Marines On the bumper of my SUV

So I hope that lady in her mini-van , Turns on her radio and hears this from me , As she picks up her kids from their private school , And drives home safely on our city streets , Or to the building where her church group meets

Yeah, that's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines On the bumper of my SUV

Posted by: Ishimaru

I'm not one for the modern military at all, and one of my best friends is a Marine and she loves it; I still don't like her there, but that's her choice. But it's quite sad when a soccer mom flips you off because of a bumper sticker.

I usually sell one to fund another. I have no use for more than two main phones and one backup (which is usually some useless P.O.S. that really only handles voice, just in case).

Not to mention it's usually the novelty that keeps me going. Once I'm board with a device, I have no interest in continuing its use.

Posted by: bnycastro

I usually get another mobile then decide if I want it or not before selling my old one [or new one depends] but I always keep my POS nokia 3120 which is uber reliable.

If all you do is modify docs, email, web, spreadsheets, etc. you shouldn't need anything too fancy. I would check Dealnews.com for any sales or generally good deals.

Do you have a vendor preference? Also, would you consider a notebook with a docking station? I find notebooks infinitely flexible compared to desktop machines; I won't buy a desktop ever again, unless I want a low powered server for the house or a media center PC.

Like they both said, it was classic. I really hope that they eventually release the uncut R version as they only released the PG-13 version in the movies.

My buddy is a book editor here in NYC and has done books with Matt Groening and he told him all about the R version. Too bad they caved and edited it.

I am also biased because I am a fanatic. I own animation cells and used to run a fan site. Go see the film, it was worth it.

I'm thinking about getting the Kaiser or another PPC when the next bunch comes out, or get my first SLR, but that's another addiction that you know about, especially with lenses.

In some ways, a "worse" addiction as each of my lenses cost more than a high-end smartphone However, lenses have excellent resale value, unlike cellphones. I didn't lose much selling off my Nikon stuff to make the switch to Canon. If you are looking @ Canon, wait a bit .. Rumour has it that Canon will intro a few DSLRs later this month.

This is weird, I'm actually quite pleased with my Nokias (have had the e61 or e61i for almost a year now). It's not as flashy as the HTC devices, but is solid and is just plain easy to use for almost any smartphone task. You liking the N95, or have you sold it?

This is weird, I'm actually quite pleased with my Nokias (have had the e61 or e61i for almost a year now). It's not as flashy as the HTC devices, but is solid and is just plain easy to use for almost any smartphone task. You liking the N95, or have you sold it?

I'll definitely ask you for advise when I get my first SLR.

I'm still using the N95 right now. It's good, but maybe I like the QWERTY keyboards more than I thought. That and I miss the touchscreen for GPS usage.

Oh yeah, it's a long weekend.

It's kind of ironic how we're born with little hair and end up old with little hair. Must be the whole circle of life thing.

Posted by: Dave Evans

Some people's circle is just a bit wider than others.

Posted by: maevro

The irony is that what hair I still have grows so freaking fast! Also, there are times where I need to shave twice a day because my beard grows so fast.

I drove my buddies M6 the other day, oh man.

I wish I was rich like him. He took me out in his Ferrari Enzo, man is that thing amazing. He had a Murcielago which has sick, but not as elegant.

I never got into bikes, my boy was killed racing on one...Hmm...he was from DR too.

I wish I was rich.

which nintendo ?? is it Wii ?? if so would you recommend it to for a 5 year old princess ??

As long as she doesn't accidentally throw the remote through the TV, I'd recommend a Wii for anyone. It's pretty cool, even though I rarely play the thing. (I need more free time!)

Have a good long weekend everyone.

Posted by: neo001

I got rice cooking in the microwave , Got a three day beard I don't plan to shave , And it's a goofy thing but I just gotta say . . . Hey I'm doing alright

Yeah I think I'll make me some homemade soup , Feeling pretty good and that's the truth It's neither drink nor drug induced m No I'm just doing alright
And it's a great day to be alive , I know the sun's still shining when I close my eyes , There's some hard times in the neighborhood But why can't every day be just this good?

It's been fifteen years since I left home Said good luck to every seed I'd sown , Give it my best and then I left it alone , Oh...I hope their doing alright , Now I look in the mirror and what do I see? A lone wolf there staring back at me , Long in the tooth but harmless as can be , Lord I guess he's doing alright
Sometimes it's lonely , Sometimes it's only me , And the shadows that fill this room , Sometimes I'm falling , Desperately calling , Howling at the moon...

Well I might go get me a new tattoo , Or take my Harley for a three day cruise , Might even grow me a Fu Man Chu...Oh Aww!

And it's a great day to be alive , I know the sun's still shining when I close my eyes , There's some hard times in the neighborhood But why can't every day be just this good?

I dropped my StarTrek in the toilet last week and picked up an iPhone. (Yeah, I know, wrong forum.)

I've been in the Apple forum for the past few days, hacking the **** out of my phone, and I am actually very pleased. When it first came out I was violently against the iPhone. I have since changed my tune now that you can (a) unlock it, (b) install 3rd party apps (and I don't mean Web 2.0 - I mean REAL apps), and (c) buy it for a reasonable price.

Like I said, I know this isn't the right forum for another iPhone discussion, but if you can rip yourself away from WM (I couldn't, at first), it's actually a pretty nice device. Plus, it's FUN! It's a little UNIX machine, so you can do all kinds of things with it that you can't normally do with a phone, including SSH into it and interact with it in a command-line environment.

I am using it on TMO, so no 3G isn't a problem. And all features work, as you may have read, except for Visual Voicemail.

(Let the intense flaming begin!)

Posted by: Treo 750 unlock

on the iphone, can i have my appts on the main screen
or is there a feature that supports that?
so i can imput dates and appointments

Posted by: richy240

I haven't seen anything like that yet. The main screen is the app launcher. But yes, you can input appts and the like. But they won't be visible at first glance - you'll have to go into the calendar app for that.

Keep in mind the iPhone is primarily for personal use. And that's how I am using it, personally, on TMO. I still have my Treo 750 on AT&T, which I use for work. And I have no plans to swap the two.

And I have TONS of clients asking me if I would recommend it for them. And I keep telling them NO!

Again, not too many phones have great resale values especially once they are on the market for a while. 750's are very cheap and so are iPhones now.
