Need Advice on my 8125 Purchase.

So i am making the leap from basic cell phone to Smart-PDA-Whatever phone. I travel a lot, and am in a lot of places that have WI-Fi access so I feel the 8125 is the best choice for me...I could wait for the Palm 680 but would rather have the camera and the Wi-Fi.

So here my deal...I dont know much about what I need to get up and running. I went to a Cingular store where the guy told me its $500 without a contract...However if I signed a 2 year deal with him (I really don't like contracts) I could get the 8125 for $350 with a $100 mail in rebate, he also told me that my current SIM card is old, (I've had it for about 3 years, it says 32K on it???) and he'd give me a new one for free, and he'd also make it so I wouldn't have to purchase the PDA plan for $40 rather he would set it up for me so I could get the Media plan for $20 dollars which he said is the same thing, but cheaper...So my question is...is this the best idea for me.

I see these phones on ebay and other sites for much less then $350, and I dont have to sign a contract, but if i need a new SIM card, I'm not sure where I would get one, and If i don't buy it from him, I dont know if I could still get the Media deal for 20 a month, instead of 40 a month.

Anyone's thoughts on this would certainly be appreciated!

you can do this you
if you plam judt to use the 8125 for wifi and not cingular data
get a ptrepaid card some where (check walmart they have a prepaid card and a phone for 40 dollars, load your card up with minutes
go to craigslist or or the bst forum, or ebay get one for 250-300 dollars then pop your sim. just make sure you disable the media net settings on the phone

Thats a good idea, but I still think I am going to want to have the media access when WI-Fi won't be available to me...Also I just want to carry 1 phone, Less is more for me, I am very much a scatter brain...With the idea that my SIM card is old, do I really have any other choice but to go through a Cingular store?

I use my 8K SIM circa 1998 on my 8125 and I don't notice anything unusual.
If you don't want to be bothered by Cingular reps or their third party agents you can add the $20 plan right now, buy the 8125 off eBay/where ever, and pop in your 32K SIM. I see no reason to change the SIM.

Make sure that the rebate doesen't say anything about the type of data plan you need in order to be eligible. I think it was the last rebate (or the one before) that you needed to purchase the $39.99 unlimited data plan in order to qualify for the rebate.

WOW! That sounds like a perfect idea. That way I can not have to sign a 2 year deal, and I can still get the data plan for 20 bucks! Thanks!

other then price, is their any differences between plans that I should know about..sorry about the basic questions, but I just want to cover my bases.

No disenable difference between the two, execpt that the $40 PDA plan doesn't come with messaging.
I don't think that they offer the $20 standalone unlimited data plan anymore ever since Media MAX 200 came out.

So if I was to turn on a media plan on my current phone in the next few days, and then switch the card from my current phone to the 8125, which plan would I want to switch too?

Technically, you're suppose to use the $40 plan since the 8125 is a PDA however people have used PDA's and the $20 data plan.

i understand that...but if i do that, then I have to pay an upgrade fee because my current phone v557 is a PDA so the only plan I could get would be the Media plan for 20 bucks, and then I guess i could switch the card to the 8125, if I understand the info correctly.
