Yeah, but they still won't let you buy two under a family plan

I've emailed them twice without response. Does anyone know if it's Amazon's standard practice to not offer new phones on additional lines? Or did someone screw up the website?

Posted by: audiophile42

I just read this in the amazon upgrade thread -

"Just upgraded two lines on our family plan. Both of the rents got razrs. Now if only I could find a good phone for myself....

total for both phones was 2 cents. Free two day shipping on both phones, no tax either."

We have a family plan, and I was planning on either ordering through amazon or trying to get cingular to drop the price. Are you saying you that amazon WON'T let you upgrade family plan lines like this guy is saying?

That was my post that you read. This guy is trying to order new service through amazon. What I did was upgrade existing service that I was 22 months into. You have to order each line separate.

Amazon has responded to all of my emails very quickly. The problem should be solved soon.

How long is the delay on this phone from amazon? I really want one now.

Posted by: CrysDark

w810 I just ordered will be in in about 2 weeks.

Are upgraders only eligible for the cingular rebate or do we get both?

I was just going to ask the same thing. I just ordered mine and saw both rebates said when you "activate a service plan," not renew. I didn't know if I was eligible and I'm wishing I would've asked this before placing my order. Although, I saw this phone in stores for $150, so $70 still isn't bad.

Also, my order said it would ship between 11/2-11/9.

Posted by: maiz99

I called Amazon CS. They said that if it's an upgrade then the Amazon rebates does not apply to phone purchases for use on an existing account and phone number. They said it's the same to the $50 rebate. However then I called Cingluar and they said their $50 rebate is still good for upgraders

So bacically the Amazon free Cingular w810i deal is for people who are (1) non-curent-Cingular customer and (2) don't need to port your current numbers.

For a current Cingular customer wants to keep the number (acutally I don't know if you can get a new number), $20 is still a great deal.

For non-Cingular customer who want to keep the number it will be tricky. As my understanding $250 reimbursement to be paid to Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...643327#Cingular

I can't add a line or change/upgrade to family plan as an upgrader with Amazon.

So I guess I'll still upgrade it with Amazon as well as change my wife's TMO to this deal for $20 total. The only drawback is no flamily plan. But 2 $39-450min ($79-900min total) is as good as, if not better than, 1 $69-700min shared I guess.

Anyway I'm glad that I find this deal and canceled the questionable wirefly.com order.

Please post your w810i order/receive timeframe with Amazon. Thanks alot!

Can someone confirm this?

The price is Price: $69.99 (when purchased with new service plan).

If you are a Cingular Upgrader with an expired contract, then how can you still get the $69.99 rate in the first place??

I can understand getting the Cingular rebate for $50 but I don't get the $69.99 total cost from Amazon for existing Cingular customers.

Thanks

If you are eligible to upgrade or are on a month to month with Cingular you can get the w810 for $70 straight up.

I was watching the phone on Amazon and saw the price drop to free with the rebates. However, if you scroll down and read the user feedback you will find the following (please note that these were all written in the past few days):

To all readers, please be informed that your phone may not be delivered till about a month or more. I placed an order for this phone on September 30th and I received an email on October 20th,informing me of the delay in the item. I can now expect this item on November 6th (or longer). :-)

If you are willing to wait for about a month(or longer),from the time of your purchase, this may be a good deal.

There is no doubt this is a good phone but waiting to get the phone shipped by Amazon is just a long wait.

I ordered on 1st of Octorber and got an email informed there will be a delay and now it would be shipped in at least another week or so. Not good!

At least they made the phone free now.

I'd love to offer a review of the phone, but I'm still waiting to receive it 3+ weeks after placing my order (October 1). Today (10/21) I get an email informing me that I have another 1-2 weeks to wait. WTF?

I'll update this review when/if the phone ever gets here.

Posted by: damba98

I don't want to sound crass, but I believe most of us have ordered things online and have received emails indicating that items are on back order. Typical stuff for the most part. This is no different since the phone is a hot seller obviously right now.

Bottom line, if you want something now you generally would walk into a brick and mortar store and pay the premium. Using the premier site would be another option for some. I personally could wait a month for a new phone but understandably, some cannot. The Amazon price is clearly too good to pass up.

best,
P

Posted by: Mindtrain

well, someone has already waited over a month. and, according to amazon, it will be closer to 6 weeks before he receives the phone, and that is not even *received*, that is just when they have now told him to expect the phone (i.e. it will probably be longer). I just wanted to share this information here if people hadn't noticed this.

Posted by: wayde

I placed an order for this phone (upgrade) on 10/20... estimated ship date 10/31-11/2 and estimated delivery date 11/2-11/8.
I'm gonna be patiently and anxiously waiting

Posted by: hasbeen

I appreciate the info Mindtrain. But maybe Amazon will receive a batch early November, so the wait for people who just ordered won't be that long.

I just wish I knew how the amazon upgrade worked for 2nd and 3rd lines in a family plan. Clearly that $20 amazon rebate only applies to the first/primary line, but can you get this phone then for $20 for the 2nd and 3rd line ($70 less the $50 cingular rebate)?

Posted by: Mindtrain

Let us know if it ships, Wayde.

I would order it from them, but I wonder about porting my number, and also the monthly discount I would get with premier. I've heard stories about some 250 charge if you change anything within the first 181 days. Since I cannot get the monthly premier discount through amazon, and it isn't even clear if I can port my existing number on their site, I don't think it is a very good deal for me.

Hasbeen, let's hope you're right!!

Hmm. I asked Amazon about making changes to the account after renewing with them (going to shared minutes) and they said that wouldn't affect the discount as long as the new plan is higher than the National 450. I don't know about how that would affect Premier, though I imagine that you wouldn't be able to port with Premier through Amazon. I'm migrating from AT&T (finally, waiting for the W810i) and THEN I'm going to switch over to Premier through my job.

IIRC the cost for the w810i on Premier is $99 for new subscribers. Since you're upgrading you might have the better deal with Premier.

Posted by: Mindtrain

Yeah, not only that, you simply cannot port your existing number through Amazon (and I have a really great number). If you do, it is an automatic 250 charge on your credit card (it's something you have to agree to). So, basically, I can't even consider Amazon. The price on Premier increased to $149. However, there is an equipment discount of $50 listed for my company, but I can't get it to show up in my cart. Only the $25 web discount, which helps cut the cost of the activiation fee bringing me to 160 or so. If I could get this phone for 100, it would be a lot easier for me to do this.At this price, I am waiting for the Nokia N75 to be released, hopefully next month.

That is no longer true. Search out the w810i/Cingular on Amazon and look at the Select This Phone button. Right above it you can choose New Service Plan or Upgrade (Existing Customer).

As noted above, you can port your old Cingular number. My understanding of the raw equpiment discount is that it applies to the phone a la carte', not the 2 yr contract price, which is CRAP. That's probably why it isn't showing in your cart. Since the wife wants a pink Slvr, I'm hoping for any discount I can get!

Posted by: Borealis

Let me amend my post to say that I just got a ship notice from Amazon and they have assigned me a new number. I don't know what the point of an upgrade is, other than to keep one's number, so I plan to look into this further.

-B

Posted by: fearthedreadlox

So summing this up, if your on month to month, and are elligable for an upgrade, you can order this phone the w810i from amazon for $70, but won't get it until around nov?

Posted by: Mindtrain

I don't have Cingular. I am switching from Sprint (sick of their phones). From Amazon's website:
----------
Cingular and Amazon.com have not yet established a method for customers to transfer their current number to a new Cingular account. Your price paid includes an equipment discount of $250 that has been provided to you by Amazon.com for activating a new non-substitute line of service with Cingular and maintaining this new line of service with the selected rate plan in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days.

If you choose to purchase a Cingular phone through Amazon.com and port your number with Cingular, you herein agree to a $250 reimbursement to be paid to Amazon.com. See full service requirements. If you choose to purchase a Cingular phone through Amazon and don't want to port your number, you will not be charged $250.

We hope to offer a porting option in the coming months, so please check back.
--------
this is what I am referring to. Not such a good deal.

Eh, so you have to get a new number? Does anybody know where i can get this phone for pretty cheap, it's fine if i have to upgrade my contract, but maybe like under 130?

Posted by: Edeescam

So if you upgrade with Amazon, they switch your number? I'm about to pull the plug but I cannot lose my phone number! Can anyone verify this?

Posted by: Mindtrain

Fearthedreadlox -- do a search. there is a way you can get it for 50.00, upfront, and then free with the 50 Cingular rebate.

Edeescam -- I just verified it, above, but you can check the website yourself. You can keep your number, but it will cost you 250. They do not have the ability to port your number from another carrier, as it clearly says above.

Posted by: Smittythepig

now i am wondering if i should buy through amazon myself. i am also coming from sprint and will not be porting my number. but i am a little afraid of amazon.com's service. plus, i don't know if i want to wait that long for the phone to show up. but free is hard to beat. i am eligible for a premier account based upon where i work, but it's more expensive to buy the phone that way. i guess i could always use amazon and then sign up for my discount afterwards.

Posted by: Mindtrain

Hey Smitty, I had the Samsung A920 when it first came out. It was fun and all, but the menus seemed endless. I did like watching those old cartoons on it!!! That rocked. I took it back because the MM service from Sprint was so expensive back then (now it's 15.00, which is much more reasonable). I'm gonna try and wait for the N75 from Nokia to be released, and compare it to the W810i (if I can wait that long), but not sure. I want the N95, but on my salary, I won't ever be able to afford it.

I am already with cingular, would I still have to pay $250 to keep my number or are the stories of people getting new numbers who are upgrading just a mistake my amazon?

Posted by: Mindtrain

You can keep your number if you are *already with* cingular. There is information on this forum about this.

Posted by: Borealis

Can you please be a little more specific? Information in one of the w810i threads? I've been following all of them, and I'm one of the ppl who got assigned a new number from Amazon.

-B

Posted by: bobolito

If you want to port from another carrier to Cingular, you can do it through Wirefly.com, Buy.com, Inphonic.com, etc. Just use Google. They have deals similar to Amazon. I even did a migration (old AT&T to Cingular) through Wirefly and it was trouble-free.

Well the problem is people who are "already with" cingular have been getting their number changed when upgrading with amazon. Whether this is by accident or not was my question Mr. 23 posts.

Posted by: damba98

Would you mind pointing out some of the threads folks who had issues with this(?) I haven't seen any threads relating to this.

thanks,
Pedro

If your number changes, it must be a screw up somewhere because when you perform an upgrade through Amazon, they ask you for your SIM card number and your phone number. So there is no reason why they should mess around with that.

Posted by: Mindtrain

Borealis, didn't you write this in page 2 of this thread? This is what I was referring to:

I believe, however, that with searching, you can find an additional thread on this here at HoFo. Perhaps I am wrong. It sounds to me like Amazon is really difficult to deal with re: cell phones.

Posted by: Clyde099

Do the rebates provided by amazon force you to stick with your phone for a certain period of time. I read through the rebates and none of them mention such thing, I just want to make sure. I want to switch phones when I receive my w810i.

Posted by: hasbeen

I see no reason why the number would change if you're just upgrading. I did three upgrades for my family talk, and received the first phone today. I just switched the sim card and everything worked fine, no change in phone number or whatever. I think people are continuously confusing upgrading with switching from a different carrier. The Amazon rebate was also incredibly easy to deal with, you don't even have to mail anything, just go to a website and fill in the info. Now I'm just waiting on my other two upgrades.

Posted by: CrysDark

Just to let you guys know, if your phone hasn't shipped the price has dropped to 49.99. E-mail (don't call because they won't do it) Amazon to have them match the price.

When i called they told me they will not price match on phones because the prices fluctuate so much and I am getting a really good deal. LOL

So now Amazon is going to pay me (A.R.) to take this phone off their hands, doesn't get any better than that.

Posted by: allen7

No problem with phone number change here.

Ordered mine for a secondary line on Oct.13, got shipping confirming on Oct.27 and got it this morning.

Going to debrand it soon.

Posted by: silenc3

Question, did anyone save the rebate for when the phone price dropped to $49.99 on amazon. At the time there was a $50 rebate but it's now gone. I only have an older version (version 3) of the rebate which states that it doesn't qualify if it brings the price to or below zero. So I assume I need rebate version 4.

If not, does anyone know where to find it? Thank you.

Posted by: CrysDark

Yes I need it as well, I also read there is a new rebate available, but I can not seem to find it.

Posted by: nmajdan

so are upgrades eligible for these rebates? I order by phone on 10/21 for $70 and received it on friday. but these rebates are saying they are for new subscribers only.

Posted by: damba98

I suspect that the Cingular rebates are for new activations only. They probably factor in you can get discounted new customer pricing on phone upgrades anyway. In some cases the rebates could potentially put the phone price below $0 so they take care of that in some of the rebate wording as well I believe.

FWIW, I ended up puchasing one as an upgrade through Premier for $99 w/ no rebate hassle. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow.
