3125 Text/Notify Ringer question

I just bought this phone yestardy and I spent 99.8% of my day at work playing with it. I made a bunch of ringtones from songs I own and put them on my 3125 (Cingular) as MP3s. Now I set them as my ringtone for Texts/E-Mails/IMs etc. My question is... is there a way to silence the ringer? I have it sent to Ring & Vibrate it seems to just go on and oin to the end of the MP3. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Pressing one of the side buttons on the flip while it's ringing will silence the ringer and turn off the vibration.

Are you saying that you loaded full length songs as your ringtones, and if a call comes in, that the song keeps playing even after you've answered or it's gone to VM??

If so, use a Editor (I use Wave Pad) to edit the MP3 down to 40sec in length.. you can pick wich 40sec of the song... splice sections together.. just so long as it's not longer than 40sec. That's how long it takes for a call to go to VM.

Actulally, it's just for anything other than calls. With calls it stops but as for text messages/IMs and such it keeps on playing.

Also no... I did edit my songs in Adobe Audition to no more than 10~ seconds.

Is this normal operation or what?

SO.. it's playing the whole 10 sec... or playing the 10sec clip then looping it over and over again untill you stop it?

Playing the whole 10sec clip is normal. If you have the 10sec. clip on the phone, AND the whole song (so you can listen to it with the MP3 player), the phone might be getting confused and playing the whole song instead of just the clip you saved.

Do you save your Ring/Text sounds to the same folder as your full MP3's?

Ok, let me try to make this clearer.

1) I have a 10 second clip of a song that plays when I get a text/notify.
2) That is the only music file in that folder.
3) I want to be able to stop this 10 sec clip when I say "Oh look, I have a text message. I don't need to continue hearing the text message."

That's all I want, all other phones I've had there's always been some button you can press to stop the ringer. I just can't comprehend why they would want to force the whole clip on you if you know you've received the message.

Any helps is appreciated, thanks.

OK.. now that we've got that all cleared up...

the answer (as far as I can tell) is NO. I also tried my long ring tone (40 sec) and texted myself, couldn't shut that thing up no matter what I tried.. even if I read the stinking message right away, it still played...lol.

So... I'm in line with you waiting for a solution to that, although... I like my current tone, I might want to switch later.

I'll keep trying.

Yeah, what I was afraid of. I think it's not a HUGE inconvenience however it's just annoying. So far it's the only thing I don't like about this phone. Thanks for the reply.
