Disconnect 8125 after routine email download?

My 8125 is configured to check my Gmail account every hour. After connecting, downloading and sending email, the device stays connected to EDGE. I have unlimited data, but for battery saving sake, is there any way to make it automatically disconnect after sending and receiving email?
Thanks

When I used the 8125, I never could figure out to get it to disconnect automatically either and that pissed me off. I would turn on flight mode and turn it right off and that would do it. I downloaded GPRS monitor from SPB and that didn't work either.
I eventually switched to unlimied data with the 8125 and just left it on because it didnt matter then.

Although I don't know of a way to turn it off automatically after polling for email there are 2 quick ways to turn it off manually.
1) Hold down the end/red button for a few seconds
2) Open the Comm Manager and stop 'data connection' by clicking it

yeah. its not a problem to just hold down the End Call button, but that's only when I remember. and for battery-sake I'd really like for there to be a way to make it disconnect on its own.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't use any extra battery power to stay connected to GPRS/EDGE when you're not actively trasferring data. If there is any extra transmitter operation it's very little. It's not like WiFi which keeps a full-time active two way connection (and blows the battery.) GRPS/EDGE works just like normal GSM where the phone is in receive-only mode except for the occasional brief response to the network, even with an open GPRS/EDGE conneciton.
Put your phone near a speaker that gets interference from your phone. listen to it for 10 min with the GPRS enabled, and 10 min with it disconnected (and not actively transmitting data.) See if there's a noticeble increase in transmission activity.
In any case, here's what you're looking for:

The two check boxes that refer to "the bubble" are merely registry edits to enable a feature that's built in to the OS. Those registry settings are described here:

But otherwise this little tool will do exactly what you're looking for, disconnect the data after a certain amount of activity.
I personally just let it stay active. I'm pretty sure it dosn't use any more power, but I could be wrong.

alright. thank you so much. that was very helpful. if it doesnt use battery then i suppose i am fine. i'll try out the test tonight and see, if it does transmit more or something i'll use that program.
another question, unrelated to the topic of the thread, but while i have some people's attention...
my 8125 for some reason changes the time incorrectly every time i sync with activesync. i have my time zone set and the correct time for that zone set here on my computer. the same time zone is on the phone as well as the correct time displayed on the phone. however, when i sync, the time on the phone is bumped back an hour and i have to go in manually and change it back. needless to say, very annoying.

Are you syncing wirelessly directly to an exchange server, or are you just syching to a PC over USB (and not directly to the exchange server through USB?)
It sounds like a simple USB PC sync.
I don't know what to tell you. Check the windows time zone and see if it's set to the right GMT offset (eg: -8 for Pacific time) and set to -8 on the 8125. Then make sure that "Adjust for daylight savings time" is also checked on in windows. If you have the right GMT offset and DST, then it SHOULD set the time correctly assuming you have the right time zone set on the 8125.
That DST thing could be the thing that's getting you caught. But I don't know. That's all I know to tell you.

yeah, simple usb sync.
Time zone on the computer and the phone match. (GMT -6).
box is checked on the computer to automatically adjust the time due to DST.
i dont get it. it never did this with the previous ROM. im using the newest from HTC. released quite a while back, the 2.25 something
