8125 noob here so forgive me.

but I think i deleted the factory setting for the modem connection. Now it is asking me to make a new connection. Does anyone have the factory cingular setting for this?

i also noticed that it was trying to dial out when i was trying to get on the net. So im thinking this was the problem. Eventually it finds the GPRS, but i found this odd.

and one more question i was chatting a lot today and had my BT connected too and the battery drained pretty quickly, is that normal?

Google is your friend. Search around a little, this is answered many different places. If you're still stuck call Cingular.

You SHOULD be able to find the answer at:
http://www.cingular.com/support then go click the link for device support and select Cingular and 8125. This should be the directl link to that site:
http://www.cingular.com/support/set...ular&model=8125

But to directly answer your quesiton.
Go to: Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>
Add a new connection with the following settings:
Name of connection: (Your choice)
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access Point: wap.cingular
User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Domain: (none)
Click > ADVANCED
Select: Use server-assigned IP address
Check the box "Use IP Header Compression"
Leave "use software compression" UNCHECKED
On the servers tab:
Select: use Server-assigned address
NOTE:
You can use OpenDNS DNS servers for a little faster internet access (faster DNS resoultion). So on this tab you can use:
"Use specific server address:
DNS1: 208.67.222.222
DNS2: 208.67.220.220
WINS and Alt WINS: leave them at 0.0.0.0
More info on OpenDNS at http;//www.opendns.org/

All you relaly have to know is:
Access point: wap.cingular
User name: WAP@CINGULARGRPS.COM
password: CINGULAR1
and check "use IP header compression"
All of the rest of the settings stay at default.

If you have the PDA connect plan you can also add two other settings to use alternatively. The wap.cingular setting will work fine 100% of the time, but it's nice to have an alternative if things don't seem to be working right. You can't use these settings for MediaMax (you can onlu use wap.cingular for media max.)

Here are the two other alternative settings you can add:

Access point: isp.cingular
userID: ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
password: CINGULAR1
(use ip header compression)

Access point: isp.cingular
userid: ISPDA@CINGULARGPRS.COM
password: CINGULAR1
(use ip header compression)

I hope this helps.

Oh, also, by default out of the box the 8125 comes set to use the cingular proxy. Leave this turned off because it slows things down. But if you want to access the Cingular media net site at http://home/ then you'll need to turn on the proxy to access it.
The proxy setting is merely:

wireless.cingular.com and the port is 80
(Port 8080 also works)
I'm pretty sure the http://home/ and proxy only work on the wap.cingular access point.

I have not found a way to force it to connect, just disconnect. Apps will automatically connect GPRS when it's needed so there's really not a lot of need for forcing a connection.
But GPRS Monitor from SPB Software House has this feature I think:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pro...gprsmonitor/?en
(Click on Virtual Tour to see about the pop up)
"Connect/disconnect button "

Looks interesting. Im gonna give it a try.

BTW - I was curious because i use AIM and you have to be connected before you can sign on. It doesnt automatically start the GPRS connection.

SPB GPRS Monitor has a shortcut to connect to GPRS. Great program too. Tells the amount of data you use and how much its costing you :-/....lol

BTW - Anyone kno how much data is per KB with Cingular without a plan?? I cant find that info anywhere.
