How is Palm for E-mail

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have always used WM devices and have always enjoyed their e-mail capabilities. That said, I think I am going to grab a 680 when it drops. I wanted to know how Palms handle email. I am by no stretch of the imagination a heavy business user who needs his email pushed to him immediately; just a college student who likes to stay connected. Right now my 3125 auto-checks my email every 30 minutes. Does such an option exist with versamail? If so, how reliable is it?

Thank

versamail can be set to check your mail at a set interval. many people have problems with versamail in general though, driving purchases of software such as snappermail and chatter.

I highly reccomend Chatter Email for your treo. Even if you don't need the direct push, you can't beat the features, support, and never ending enhancements. www.chatteremail.com

Another vote for chatter - verry solid mail program, quick updates and 'push' like service with IMAP accounts

So emails are directly pushed to the device? Like on the 680?

Can Blackberry Direct work on T-Mobile?

The way that I understand it is that chatter keeps an open connection to your mailbox and only transmits if there is something that changes so yes its really quick like push email. This is only with IMAP acounts not POP, with POP you can set the traditional interval. They also offer a free account if you need one. There are several threads on this here as its where I originally found the info. Battery life is not too adversly affected as run time is about a day and a half of email, AIM, and phone use.

Chatter's push only works with IMAP accounts that have the IDLE mode. This is why the free emailtreo.net address Chatter gives you is so great. It is designed to work with this program. You can also add additional accounts, say if you have a POP also. Won't push those but you can time sync them.

Can't I do time sync with VersaMail? One thing I like about Chatter is how it grabs my e-mail in the background, but I wish the interface was nicer. Can I skin it?

Yes, you can time sync with VersaMail too. On the 700p, I have never really ran into any problems with it, I just prefer the Chattermail's powerful options and push abilities much more. On my work provided 650, I have to use VersaMail. Again, it causes no problems for me (that I am aware of anyway), I just think it is overall a weak client.

As far a skinning, I'm not sure on Chattermail. You could email the author though as he is probably the most responsive person I've ever dealt with in purchasing a program. You can find him on the Chattermail forums.

Skinning was asked long, long ago and the answer long, long ago was no. I like the summary view though - it took a day to get use to it and it is my friend. Well, sort of.
