Sidekick 3 Wifi?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I was just on the phone with a T-Mobile rep talking about the Dash and he swears up and down that there is a 3rd party download that allows wifi on the phone... is this true or is he blowing smoke out of his you know what? That was one major thing that made me return it - no wifi.

If this is true, I think it was a retarded move on T-Mo's part to launch it without immediate wifi at launch because they would have sold out on day one if that was the case.

And I'd have kept the damn thing instead of looking into a Dash with a 29.99 data plan that includes the hotspot crap that I'd NEVER use.......

he has soooooooooooooooooooooo have to be lying about that...if that was the case, i probably woulda kept mine....nah...no i wouldnt have lol

I figured as much.

I think that's pretty much the last straw.

I've had T-Mo for almost 5 years and they've pissed me off just a few too many times. I want a new data device and I'm not willing to spend 90/mo for an MDA or Dash when I could go to Sprint and get data over 5 times as fast at roughly 30 dollars less (I get an 18% discount on Sprint for having Comcast).

I'm just going to wait until EVDO Rev A launches in Denver later this year and Sprint pops up a new phone or two and then they can stuff it. Grrr.

It's not T-Mobile's fault for not having WiFi on the SK3. Danger is the one who designs the device. You have the option of waiting for Tmo's 3G network rollout, but who knows when that would happen. We may see more WiFi phones now, since Tmo just launched it's HotSpot@Home (UMA) service.

Ok, enough is enough, stop trolling in here. Fine, you don't like the SK3 and you got a MDA. Doesn't mean you have to come in here and make fun of us like you're so superior.

I'm sitting in a cafe having brunch in downtown Montreal right now, about 45 minutes away from my computer, answering your dumb posts.

I don't wish I had any other device. There is more to a device that the device itself, especially on the Sidekick. The user community is important too, and seeing what kind of frustrated ignorants are part of the MDA community, I think i'll pass.

I'm not pro-sidekick or anything like that but I do disagree with your tone here:

Shoots video --> Craptacular video - no thanks - I will use my sony still camera that takes better videos.

Plays videos --> OK this is cool, but I have not used this feature often, and when I do the battery drains VERY VERY fast

Wifi --> Again cool, but when I am home I use my laptop, when I am at work I use my work computer, and when I am mobile...well...I've synced all data that I need to sync so WiFi does not come in handy all the times. (pretty cool to have JUST IN CASE) Again battery drains super fast.

Touch-screen --> Depending on the OS and UI functionality this is either a must or "could care less" item. I personally like the touchscreen

MP3 ring tones -- yaaaaawn. Cool feature, but I wouldnt buy a phone just because of ringtones

Voice and HWR --> Dont make me laugh. HWR stinks on WM devices. A person can type faster than take notes in HWR! The only redeeming feature of a touchscreen is that you can take ink notes. As for voice recognition - worse than HWR.

Stream video with orb or slign --> Again, pretty cool "proof of concept" but without 3G data it is useless because you are tethered to a hotspot.

The only thing that I keep my MDA III around for these days is TomTom ;-)

I think that the sidekick would really kick MDA rear if:
1. Mac Compatible
2. GPS enabled + tomtom (or whatever navigation software you prefer)
3. MMS enabled
4. better camera

Cool stuff but not necessary:
4. Video player (companion to the music player)
5. Integration with iTunes + iTV ;-)

I looked at both the mda and sk3, coming from the sk2 I really wanted something with wifi and could play videos off the net... being that I work in an air port but don't set infront of a computer, so I can just use the wifi.

ended up with the side kick 3 because its just cheaper and I text and aim all the time. so for me the mda would have been 30$ a month for internet and 15$ for texts... with the sk its only 20$ for both unlimited.

having a cell bill that's over a 100$ a month is what decided it for me.

I have two friends with mda's and they are nice but what the sk does do it does very well. which is keep me from intouch with everyone and not bored at work. do I wish it did more? of course but the mda is not the phone for me... hopefuly some comes out with a phone that everything I want.

admiral:

while a number of options are things you don't care to do (video, wifi, mp3 ringtones) the fact that they are at least an option is a point for the MDA.

That said.. I absolutely hate the MDA, but, then again, I hated the Sidekick, so I would rather have a device I hated that at least allows me the flexibility to hate it less.

I think this thread has gotten OT. The SK3 does not have wifi, but maybe the sk4 will have wifi... with the same screen..........and browser
