Just got my Dash this morning. So far, its the best d*mn windows phone I have ever used. I loved it.

But more to the point.. The font seems really big.. Anyone know how to reduce the size?

Thanks

Which font are you referring to? The home screen?

Posted by: omarqureshi

Actually, the messaging font.. the menu's and text of emails and whatnot. thanks!!!

I've always just used the default programs to manage/read email and no there isn't a size/font adjustment setting. Some smartphone programs that take over built-in functions (i.e. Papyrus [calendar, tasks]) have settings that let you tweak the fonts and offer additonal display options. Maybe someone has a suggestion about an email manager that might do the same. I just can't think of any right now. When you use explorer, you will be able to change the display under zoom. Right now, there is still a lot more software avaialble for than PPC platform than smartphone. Hopefully with better smartphones being sold to more people, it will spur the software manufacturers into developing more smartphone platform programs.

Got my Dash too and I had the exact question...hmm..too bad.

I think you are talking about the home screen settings. If you change around the dif home screens you can see the fonts are dif sizes. Try start->settings->Home Screen

He was looking to change the messaging fonts, etc. When you change a home screen, it will not change the font size in a built-in application, such as email or contacts. It is true that different home screens will have different fonts sizes and elements present depending on what the developer set-up. They can be edited thru the xml file but that takes a little advance knowledge of xml files. That's not that hard to learn and a HoFo or Google search will provide some information on that subject if you're interested.

Figured out how to change font size for the pop menus....

Navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu\PopFnt
Edit value HT from 4294967280 to 18.

This will make the outlook menu fit on a single screen with no scroll arrows.

You can change fonts on a WM5 Smartphones handset, but it requires some registry editing. I added CJK fonts to my Q.

Unless you are comfortable with editing your phone's registry, you may want to wait until someone builds a CAB file that will do it.

I think we posted at same time.. See my last post! Thanks!

Good to know. Thanks. If I ever drop Papyrus I'll try that. Question: when you say the outlook menu which screen/view are you referring to?

Posted by: omarqureshi

Basically, anytime the right soft key says "Menu"... that is the font it adjusts. I guess the popfnt in the registry refers to menus that pop up from the soft keys...

Got it - Thanks.

Well, this seems to be a quirky fix. It seems like it works for a while, then craps out. I was also having problems editing the registry with the signed regeditSTG- "unable to perform this operation." MobileRegistryEditor seemed to work. Its all very weird.

Good thing, I didn't try it!

The large font in Messaging is REALLY bothering me!

I SIM/App unlocked my phone, and now the fix works great. I wonder if T-Mo has some protection on the registry or something.

You used imei-check and paid $38?

Does the font size actually change when you add fonts, or just the typeface?

Do you have a link to the howto for adding fonts to a WM5 Smartphone?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/GDI/SYSFNT
Change the key "It" to a value of 1 for Italics
Change the key "Ht" to a higher or lower value for larger or smaller font
Change the key "Nm" for a different font
