Cingular 3125 and streaming XMRadio Mobile

I like to listen to streaming XMRadio on my 3125, but find that I do not get incoming calls while so listening. The calls go straight into my voicemail without the phone first ringing.

Do others have this same experience? Is there any way to set it up to listen to streaming XM Radio on the 3125 but still get incoming calls?

Thanks.

I also stream XM, not sure what happens if I receive a call, I'll have to try it.
What do you use to stream it? I'm using a site made for mobile streaming.

Yes, I get no indication of a call coming in when streaming XM radio.

You got me worried. I got an 8125 3 weeks ago. I decided I don't like it and I want to get the Treo 750 when it comes out eventually. But I was considering exchanging this one, the 8125, for the 3125 before my 30 days is up.
If calls don't break through, I don't think I want it.

Well if you will be streaming alot there may be a problem. I am not receiving any calls or any voicemail notifications while streaming anything, XM or radio stations. Worse, on my two tests I called my phone while streaming, and left a voicemail message. After stopping the steaming, neither time have I received notification of a voicemail or missed call. So it appears unless someone knows a setting or reg hack, if streaming you may have no notice that someone called, either while streaming or even after you are done.
I really like this phone, but this seems like a pretty big problem unless someone can add something we are missing.

Added info to above - (Not able to edit after 60 min) - I am not receiving voicemails till almost 6 or 7 minutes after they are left for some reason, so it may not be true that you don't get a voicemail notification. I may not have waited long enough to receive it. But you definately cannot receive calls or get a notification while streaming.

When on GSM your active data session is "supposed" to pause to allow an incoming call. Sometimes it doesnt work (50% of the time in my case) as excpected and calls get forwarded to VM.

What app are you using for XM for a smartphone?

It is:
XstreamXM Mobile. It has been awhile since I bookmarked this site, but I THINK it is a mobile link on the basic XM Radio web site to which I have access as part of my XM desktop subscription.

I seem to remember having tested the ability to interrupt streaming XM Radio when I tested VzW's a2dp BT headset (the one for the Chocolate). I believe that it did interrupt the stream to receive phone calls. That is consistent with the 50% of the time point. But if you can not count on getting ALL of your incoming calls, its utility is degraded.

I know the Treo 650 interrupts data EVERY time to let a call break through (100%.) That's one of the positive things about GSM/GPRS. Unlike CDMA which typically won't let a call break through for data (at least that was the case on 1xRTT, can't say about EVDO.)
It SHOULD never fail to let a call break through. But it sounds like something isn't getting the right priority in the 3125 if is in fact missing calls. That's kind of a bummer.

is that covered under your smart phone data plan? it says on the small print no streaming media!

I am using an old grandfathered MediaWorks plan. Also, I probably won't use it much if calls do not breakthrough.

You are essentially correct. It says "except for CONTENT formatted in accordance with cingular’s CONTENT standards"

I am thinking if you use services thru Media Net or on the phone itself (Playing MP3's) your calls will come thru. But if you are going over the internet to play sound/stream it does not allow the incoming call thru.

whats the wap url for this streaming xm??

Posted by: Sticman

http://www.xstreamxm.com/mobile

I use http://www.musicdock.com/

Regarding the content policy, Cingular promotes streaming video as well as MobiTV on the Media Max unlimited plans, so that no-streaming policy simply contradicts their own sales. It's simply outdated and unrealistic. The T&C has a lot of BS in it
