bell vs roger dilema

i am currently on a corporate plan with Bell and i have 2 years left on my contract and am using a treo 650. Rogers is also offering a corporate plan which includes

250 daytime minutes
free calls to co-workers
free evenings(after 8pm) and weekends
call display
call waiting and all that other stuff for $20/month and if u want free after 6pm its $24/mnth.

after spending my whole evening debating on to leave bell or not, im actually considering getting out of my bell contract because i dont really feel comfortable paying full price for a treo 700 and still not have a damn GSM phone, limiting my options of phones i can get with bell!

Is the buy out $20/month or $200 whichever is cheaper.

also what do you think about the 8125 POCKET PC PHONE

thnx.

I think Bell is 200 bucks to close or 20/month which ever is cheaper. I would definetely go with Rogers, get a brand new K790a. You will pay more for the bills but you also get more, 24 hour tech, GSM, better network. Etc. Etc.

Better Network? That's an open ended statement - can you elaborate?

Clearest network but unreliable.

my monthly bill will be $20/month as stated in my first post, and the 24 hour tech is a nice factor too. Try to call bell after 5pm and u get a message telling you thier offices are closed and no weekend support either.

the K790a, thats the sony ericsson isint it. i was thinking of sticking to a PDA phone that why i asked what you guys thought about the 8125 POCKET PC PHONE.

Bell better do something if they wanna keep me as a customer. me and all 6 phones i have under my name

Better network? Yes, please elaborate.

Also Bell Mobility offers 24 hour tech support.

Nevermind I take that back I do not want to start a debate.

Posted by: GSM Puritan

Network busy can also mean the users line is busy, such as I'm calling a cab on a Bell Fixed line on a Saturday night from a Rogers phone, the network is busy but thats because the cab company has only 5 phone lines. I rather doubt that it is unreliable, if so its the most reliable. I have friends with Bell/Telus that get almost no netz when I have full. I can go underground a few stories and talk without hitch, while Bell/Telus phones have no signal.

I mean what is the point of using Bell unless you have a wicked price point. I had an excellent corporate plan offered by bell but I chose Rogers.

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

a "network busy" is not the same as a standard busy signal...a busy signal is still a call that is completed, but the receiving party's line is in use therefore the call can't be completed to the receiver...a network busy signal means the phone is not capable of connecting to the network at all, because the network itself is already full and not capable of handling more users.

Bell gives you more data use for your money...Bell also has 24 hour tech support - just call 1-877-DATA-123 for your technical support for data devices anytime...if you like the Treo 700, you won't see it on Rogers as its a CDMA device only.

Every GSM handset is different in what it can display, for example the W810i will let you know if another call is holding on another parties phone. Network busy can also mean the user is busy. This small irregularities can happen on bell as well. All I'm saying is that I get a FAR superior signal (At least in Victoria BC) and better phones, and uncrippled bluetooth. But to an average Joe who just wants a cheap plan and a phone that makes call for cheap I won't argue.

A network busy is different and has a different notification than a busy line. Network busies are caused by several things like network congestion, network failure, or lack of available interconnect lines between cellular and landline networks, but not that the user is busy.

BTW my Q has uncrippled bluetooth, as do several other models in Bell Mobility's line.

A network busy (ie: fast busy) is not allowed to be used to indicate the user is actually busy doing something. It's only permitted to be used when there is a network delivery fault. When you hear a fast busy on Rogers, it's the network giving up to cause it - not the person you're calling dicking around.

lol. naw i just got all pissed and used that as a method of leverage, So i called bell and gave them the 411 with the Rogers plan, they said they couldnt do better, but what they were willing to do is:

have me buy the treo 700wx for full price at bell world, but then credit my account 50% off the total amount.

yes your right about that, it is a CDMA device only which is a big draw back, since i really want a GSM device. I'm almost certain that I will be getting a HTC device.

Yeah I have noticed that Bell has taken that sort of non-chalant "oh well then leave" attitude towards customers lately if they call to report better plans elsewhere. Same for new customers. The current plans are not very enticing. Given the versatility and popularity of GSM I think that cdma carriers should be cutting prices or finding some sort of novel way to attract customers rather than telling them to go kiss it with the worst plans in Canada but who knows.

Posted by: momodabobo

I'm sorry but Bell's plans are laughable! I mean seriously what you pay for and end up getting in terms on minutes and the restricitons involved its just not worth it.

Yeah the models w.o crippled Bluetooth are the ones the Bell Monster couldn't get his hands on. Believe you me, he was trying .

Bell should benchmark US Sprint.
Sprint is a powerhouse CDMA carrier down there.

I have worked for Rogers for 4 years and I've never seen anything like this. I would double-check if I were you.

Unless you LOSE your cell phone why else would you need to bug CS past 9 pm. And both have their respective emergency lines for that purpose.
After all, majority of questions can be answered on the FAQ and services can be managed online.

But yah, have to call Rogers Internet enough times due to their horrible internet service in Markham and downtime.
