ok, ive read through most all of the general threads with hundreds of pages. got my phone the other day and still have some questions... well, a lot more..

here goes... keep in mind im a n00b

what customization requires unlocking the cid, and what doesnt?

the rom version i have is 2.25.11.1 wwe
the radio version i have is 02.25.11

should i upgrade either? id like to get the best service available because i live in the sticks.

things i plan on doing:
installing null keyboard to get rid of the auto keyboard... is there a better program?

a button mapper.. either VITO Button Mapper.. Magic Button... button mapper v 3.9.1.... smartskey..... dunno. here is what id like to do:

at the today screen the following

center button - phone pad
left direction - send text message screen(not inbox)
right direction - calender
down button - contacts
up button - start menu
talk button - sent calls
right soft key - alarm
left soft key - missed/recieved calls.. or enter today list for browsing with directional keys(assuming i can add a missed call and recieved call folder on my today screen)
end button -

during other menu's and programs id like to have the end key cancel, or perform the function of the "ok" or "x" button, but holding down x would end to the today screen.

dunno what of this is possible. dont know if its possible to go to recieved calls or missed calls separate...

some other issues id like to resolve:

when using smart search, if i want to go to contact dan i want to be able to type d and have it go to dan, dana, dave, don, etc. not have to scroll through sue d, jason d, z-ak-dan. how can i change that?

i would like to adjust my contact screen so when holding down, the letter selection pops up in less time.

i would like the sim card contacts to not be displayed in contacts. right now, everything is backed up on my sim card, and that makes everything show up twice.

i would also like to enlarge buttons to make touchscreen possible without the stylus. especially the "x" or "ok" buttons.

an easier way to turn on/ off speakerphone, during a call and an incoming call.

month view always default when entering calender

again, sorry if i missed these being elseware. and i have no idea if half of this is possible.

so any reccomendations on these? any programs that will make these things easier? id prefer and all in one of course, but seperate programs would suffice.

thanks a ton. sorry again if i could have found this info elseware. i tried.

Download a reg editor if you dont already have one....

show only contacts and not sim contact

Under HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone
add a new DWORD value named "ShowSim" and set it to 0. No need to soft reset the contacts will be hidden when you next open the contacts window.

Personally I use button mapper and wisbar advance to do everything...smartkey has an annoying white bar for battery life across top of screen so i got rid of it.

Dont know if its possible to make the x or ok button larger but i just programmed my voice dial button to the ok/close button and it works perfect.

simply choose what you want to view...day/week/month/year/agenda then exit out...next time you go in, 8125 remembers what view you had it on last

One of the most useful tools for this phone is overclocking it and the following are the verbatim step-by-steps on how to do that...makes the phone noticably faster

Here are the step-by-step directions.

1. Download the following file and unzip. Save the OmapClock.exe to your \Windows folder on your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=9181

2. Open File Explorer on your device and open Omapclock.exe. Find the maximum speed that your device will handle without locking up. On each test, test all applications you use. This is important because once you place this in your startup, it will load up automatically and could cause your device to stop responding! 240Mhz works for me. Suspending the device at this point will cause the speed to be reset back to default. Execute Windows\OmapClock.exe again if this happens and you want to continue testing.

3. Download and install Resco File Explorer 2005: http://resco.net

4. Open Resco Explorer and go to the \Windows folder. Locate the OmapClock.exe file and hold the stylus on this file until menu pops. Choose “Copy”.

5. Now browse to \Windows\Startup then hold stylus in an empty area and when menu pops, choose paste shortcut.

6. Hold the stylus on the newly created OmapClock shortcut and choose Properties then click the Shortcut tab.

7. Target should be: “\Windows\OmapClock.exe” –clock 240
Change the 240 to the clock speed you tested in step 2 above.

8. Soft reset and test. Suspending the device will reset the device back to the default speed. This is a secondary test to make sure the device does not lock up!

9. Download and install DinarSoft MemMaid: http://www.handango.com/PlatformProd...23995&R=123995

10. Open MemMaid and choose the Notification queue button/tab on the bottom (second from left) then click the ADD button.

11. For Program, click the browse button and browse to the shortcut you created in steps 5-7. The location of the shortcut is \Windows\Startup.

12. From the event dropdown choose “The device woke up”.

13. Click Add.

14. Soft reset and you are done. The Clock speed will remain at the specified speed you specified in step 7 even when the device comes out of suspend.

i looked through most of those this past week. ill take another gander at home tonight.

i think im going to wait to overclock for a little while. id like to make sure i can customize it for what i use it for so i can send it back if i cant. ill worry about speeding it up down the road.

thanks!

p.s. im trying to figure out how to edit my original post to remove questions that have been answered...
