Hi,

I've been told by my service provider (T-Mobile USA) that I can only change the name of my caller ID inside of my phone. I'm just wondering if anyone is familiar with this procedure?

i have no idea what u are talking about..i dont think caller ID can be changed at all~

Posted by: APlxo

Well, Ok,

thats what I figured since there was no mention of this anywhere.

tmo usa lied to u obviously, i mean we here in the s60 forum probably know more than them

In your applications menu
Open to Tools
Open Settings
Open Call
Open Send My Caller ID
You have 3 options; yes, no, and set by network

This is what t-mobile was talking about.

hhas nothing to do with changing the name of the caller ID...

Caller id used to was a network feature and therefore in the hands of your service provider. It was basically a question of "does the network send my fone number to the called party, or not?"

A lot of networks don't allowing you to change the setting...... the network simply ignores your request and uses its default setting.

And then again, maybe I have misunderstood the thrust of your question.

well it depends on what u set their name as in contacts...

thread revival!

I just decided a few months back to have t mobile set my name as "unknown" since the name change didn't work out but the call option comes in handy.

OK, I guess I have misspoken......

There's Caller ID that shows who is calling you. That depends on whether the network send the calling number to you. If it does, then it is, as you say, Angel, simply a matter of how you list that number in your contacts.

On the other hand, there's Caller ID (is actually called some other name or group of nonsensical letters) that determines whether your number is sent to someone you call. If not, you just show up as "private number" or something like that.

Which of these are you asking about, APIxo?

Posted by: angel_wing0

i think its the private # one.

If that is so, then you can't set it in the phone.

Thats what I meant.

I had to switchover to ATT to save some money and stayed with the 6680 because its a solid phone. I'll definitely consider the N91, N95, or Palm750 once the prices drop.

In that case, as far as I know you might have the option of not sending your number when you call someone. Or your operator might just have it enabled.... period. There ain't no way to modify the identity.
