Trouble getting PST to "connect" to my phone

I'm trying to delete a couple of skins from my phone. I followed the step-by-step process in the wiki, and got to where I need to open the pFlex file that I made. I make sure the phone is set to Data/Fax (I even tried using the bootloader...didn't work), connect it, and open the file. It says "making connection to phone" for awhile, then says that it's not connected, then flex failed. I've tried reconnecting, power cycling, connecting it before I open PST, after I open PST, etc., but nothing seems to work. 
Any ideas?
