A930 (Set ups for ~ DUN, WAP, MP3, View Six Hidden Menu's)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: skyboard64

Hey all want the most out of your Samsung a930
(Free Ring tones, play MP3s, edit pix, DUN, etc.)

Samsung a930 (Best things to do to your a930)

First ill talk about some basic sets up to get you started then a little more advance with all the hidden menu’s that’s right I found six hidden menu’s if you find anything else I didn’t mention here feel free to leave a reply

The Basic set ups I found
(Free Phone Book transfer & Back up, Editing Pix, Getting Free ring tones)

Steps to make a computer see your Samsung a930:

1.) Get the Samsung a930 phone and phone USB cable or use Bluetooth
2.) Download the basic drivers. The first driver you will need is so the computer can see your phone it’s the “Samsung MCCI Driver 4.24 WHQL” here’s a link to where you can download it, or just search for it and download it.

http://rapidshare.de/files/7553798/...tified.zip.html

3.) After downloading this driver, install the driver.
4.) Turn phone on after attaching it to USB cable which should be plugged into the computer (if CDMA modem should come up if not turn phone on and off again)

Steps up a DUN network and get MP3S on your Samsung a930:
This guide will show you how to install the a950 PST and how to enable certain things on your phone.
1. Start off by downloading the PST package, http://pub.undeadarmy.com/a950.zip.
2. Unzip this file to a temporary folder and then open the folder up.
3. You should see 3 things, a DLL folder, a PST folder, and a SamsungPST Preloaded Application for A950 v1.07 MOD and MP3.msi file.
4. Double click the SamsungPST Preloaded Application for A950 v1.07 MOD and MP3.msi file and follow any prompts to install the first part of the a950 package.
5. Open the DLL folder and double click on setup.exe, again follow any prompts to install the second part of the package.
6. Go back to the original folder and open up the PST folder, double click the setup.exe, and once again, follow the prompts.
7. Once all three are installed, you should have a 'Phone Flashing Applications' item in your Start Menu. Click the SamsungPSTLite icon inside there to load the PST.
8. Double click on the SCH-A950 in the right pane. The software will then load.
One of the best things you can do with this PST is enable MP3 playback on the VCAST Music version (YK.24).
1. Make sure your phone is connected to the computer with the USB cable and the drivers are installed.
2. Click the Setting button on the left. Click on Feature in the right pane and also put a checkmark in the box.
3. Click on 'Read From Phone' and wait for it to read the settings from the phone. When asked for the MSL code, type in 000000
4. Find the 'Hidden Menu' feature entry and from the dropdown box choose Enabled.
5. Click on 'Write To Phone' and wait for it to write the new settings. When asked for the MSL code, type in 000000
6. Your phone will reboot (if it turns off and doesn't turn back on, manually turn it back on)
7. Go to the menu, then Get it Now and then press 0. Type in your lock code (should be the last 4 digits of your phone number).
8. Go to MP3 Menu Item and select Enabled.
9. Your phone will reboot again
10. Go back to Get it Now, Get Tunes & Tones and there will be a 'My MP3s' item.
11. You will need to put the MP3 files in the 'MY_MP3S' folder on your transflash card
*Repeat steps 1-8 to see mp3 files, files can only be played while the phone is open

Another thing you can do is enable DUN, so you can tether your phone to a computer and access the internet on your phone.
1. Make sure your phone is connected to the computer with the USB cable and the drivers are installed.
2. Click the Setting button on the left. Click on Feature in the right pane and also put a checkmark in the box.
3. Click on 'Read From Phone' and wait for it to read the settings from the phone. When asked for the MSL code, type in 000000
4. Find the 'DUN' feature entry and from the dropdown box choose 1XDUN
5. Click on 'Write To Phone' and wait for it to write the new settings. When asked for the MSL code, type in 000000
6. Your phone will reboot (if it turns off and doesn't turn back on, manually turn it back on)
7. Open up the Control Panel on your computer and find Network Connections. Create a new connection
8. When asked, say you wish to use a dial-up modem. Choose the 'SAMSUNG CDMA Modem'.
9. Put any name for the ISP, such as NationalAccess or Express Network, or whatever you wish.
10. Put #777 for the phone number when asked.
11. The username is yourphonenumber@vzw3g.com. An example would be 3215556677@vzw3g.com if your number was 321-555-6677. Leave the password blank.
12. You should now be able to connect with that connection and access the internet.
*last important step in setting up DUN
After all this, I created a DUN entry in windows (#777, username = xxxxxxxxxx@vzw3g.com, pw = vzw), and I got the same username/password invalid error that everyone else has been mentioning. I finally found another post on the Howard Forums that describes the missing step: http://www.howardforums.com/showpos...31&postcount=55
Basically, in the network connection properties dialog, you need to go to the security tab, select the advanced radio button, then click on the Setting button. In the resulting dialog, select "Optional Encryption (connect even if no encryption)", then select the "Allow these protocols" radio button, and uncheck every checkbox below that, except the "Unencrypted Password (PAP)" checkbox (check that one.)

Step up to get free ring tones and edit pix on your Samsung a930:

1.) go to web site: http://www.bitpim.org/
2.) download the newest version released
3.) hook up the phone and (read data from phone)
4.) From here you can edit ring tones and pix
5.) Send data to phone to save add items

Ok now that we have cover the Basic stuff on the Samsung a930 (DUN, MP3, Free Ring tones, edit pix, etc.) ill move on to the hidden menu’s personally I have found six hidden menu’s if anyone has anything to add let me know !! Very appreciated

You mentioned getting a data cable or using Bluetooth.
If I want to get some ringtones (via bitpim) can I still use Bluetooth?

Yes, the a930 supports the serial port profile. Note that this is not obex however.

Why did you just copy and paste HotWired/hypercooljake's instructions, without saying like where you got it from(e.g. say that it's from Hotwired..etc some hwere in the post)? Thats' not cool...

Wap is the mobile internet browser on the phone.
Dun is when you connect the phone to a laptop, and go on the internet on the laptop using the phone as a modem.

Posted by: gupta88

could anyone provide me with the default proxy address? i changed mne and i want to go back. thanks

Posted by: kl0wn

I've not had any luck getting into the hidden browser menu. I've been able to get into every other menu just fine!

I get to the Get It Now screen, hit # and nothing happens. Do I have to do anything else from the get it now screen? I'm at the main get it now screen with all of the different "get" options, such at Get Tunes & Tones..etc etc

Are there different versions of software for this phone?

Posted by: kl0wn

Can't get into MMS either. I can get into all menus but MMS and the hidden browser settings.

Posted by: hotwired

You need to follow the instructions. Especially the first ones.

...

Posted by: skyboard64

Should work just Press the get it now on your samsung a930 then the # button and it should come up with enter lock code then enter in four-digit code usally last four digits of the phone unless you changed it to some other four numbers

Posted by: skyboard64

default proxy address: (to change back to verizon defualt web menu)
http port: 8080
Primary DNS: gw.vzwap.com
Primary Proxy address: --.---.--.-- <--- not sure some double check me?
Secondary Proxy address: --.---.-.-- <-- again not sure some one double check me?
(im not sure if those address are for my own phone or for everyones)
(I dont want to post those numbers yet im not sure if its hooked to my account or if its the same number for everyone ? i have my Proxy address numbers but idk if they are hook to my account... ?? so ill found out then maybe post it or someone else can

Its a good idea to write numbers and things down before you change it so you can always go back

peace ~

For those that can't get into the MMS menu or browser menu, YOU MUST ENABLE THE HIDDEN MENU FIRST

Posted by: gupta88

i jus kept 0.0.0.0 for my proxy address and it still works so im fine, thanks anyway

do i have to install the a950 PST on my a930 so i can get to the MMS menu/Browser menu? or is there another way to do so?

There is a way to enable the hidden menu without the PST, but I believe it only works on the a950. So yes, you will need the PST to enable the hidden menu, to edit the MMS and Browser settings.

Posted by: dgmithril

I accessed the Hidden Menus but do not see the MP3 Menu item. All I see is PEK Test and Brew Info. I just read the instructions three more times. I see nothing I did wrong on my end.

Just turn the phone on normally.

i will try to run it again in normal mode.

What program are you using? And what are you trying to accomplish?

Posted by: toug

I'm just in this for the google WAP, followed the instructions (great instructions, by the way) and I'm getting a "Network Unavailable, Retry Later" error when I try and access the web. This is, of course, using wap.google.com for primary and secondary and port 80. I setup proxy addresses of 0.0.0.0 but no luck. Anyone have a similiar case?

EDIT: Thought I had searched rigourously, but I guess I was wrong. What happened was I had VCast for a month free but then cancelled. This messed with my settings so all I had to do was call verizon and say get it now was broken. They fixed er up.

Posted by: dgmithril

not to be annoying but really, my A930 does not see the MP3 Menu item. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 3 installers.

Well there is one thing that's odd: whenever I double click on the A950, a debug menu comes up, in which case I have to hit ignore a million times before it gets to the settings. And from there, everytime I hit info, sw, settings, transfer, etc, the debug menu comes up as well.

The error is as follows:
Debug Assertion Failed!
Program: (it has the path for the program)
File: winocc.cpp
Line: 321

For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts.

(Press Retry to debug the application.)

Anyone else heard of this problem for the PST? I hit Retry and it crashes. I hit ignore a few times and I can access the phone...but I can't see MP3 menu in the hidden menu after I enable it.

Posted by: COLIN910

i used the prog, and it works fine if you follow the instructions..
but i went into 47*68#13580 menu and tride 027...

it formated my fone..
it needed programming... ****

Your PRL file may have gotten erased/corrupt. Where are you located? I can try and figure out which *228 number you need to call to get it back.

HEY..
YOU MAY BE RIGHT....

i live in mcsherrystown PA.. 17344 (ZIP)..

but how do you dial when there are no network bars?

thanks for the reply...

Posted by: hypercooljake

Try doing *22802 on your phone, see what happens.

Posted by: COLIN910

hi..
i tride *22802, no joy...
then *22803 the network came on...
tells me im connected to sprint not verizon??? no account?? lol
i try to do the *228 update but it connects to their voice service?

also when i use *22803 to update the prl file no file downloads because it connects to the voice service???

hey do you have a link to "Samsung A950 VerizonWireless Firmware v. YK25"

it tride to get it from here..
http://www.oxyshare.com/folders/HydroChronic/

but cant get any of the software to download?
thanks for your help...

Posted by: hypercooljake

Try doing *22800 all the way through *22807 and see if any of them are Verizon.

Posted by: Slut

I have tried serveral times to connect my a930 and I can not.. It connects for 5 seconds says high speed connection then disconnects.. I did the steps listed earlier and I stil cant get it... any reason why?

Posted by: hotwired

Slut, That's because this thread is a hackuped-mickey-moused COPY of the originals. I think it was meant to be a joke. Although the effort is good there may be a lot of error in the instructions. I suggest you look for the original threads as it is more accurate.

Note: You may even see a partial credit to you on the original.

Posted by: Slut

i dunno what i did, but now I cant even use my phones browser or GIN... I keep getting network unavailable, I see it switches very fast from evdo to 1x when it trys.. over and over till it just gives me the message..

I've got the free google WAP set up and I'm trying to go through zaksenterprises.com, with no luck.

Anyone use HoTTProxy? Is it easy to set up and run?

Posted by: gaylemike

I've gotten new phones, the a930 and have tried and tried to find the hidden menu to reset for WAP. I had Mobileweb4U on my old Audiovox and would like to switch it over to the a930. I'm at a loss.

Two questions.......Do you have to buy the cable to hook it up to my PC or do I have to use Bluetooth......I have neither and still want WAP but pressing the Get It Now and then the # key doesn't work. Any way to correct this????????? Mike

Posted by: hotwired

You definitely need the cable. If you don't have it then you are out of luck.

To answer my own questions.

zaks WAP default port is 9201. That port is somehow blocked on the a930. He's working on opening up port 8080 for us poor a930 users.

HoTTProxy isn't all that hard to set up. You do have to keep it running on your computer to access WAP on your phone, and I've found no way to keep it running in the background without it showing on my taskbar. Also, you have to edit the Admin_files to use a different port than the default 9201 to work with the a930.

Bob. Check out Zaks. It seems he opened up port 8080 for the a930 as of yesterday.

Just saw that. Thanks. It also uses a different IP 67.182.107.196 port 8080. You'll have to go zaksenterprizes and sign up, give him your number and make up a pass word. But it does work on the a930 now .

I have been using Zaks service for a few weeks with no problems. It's a fairly new site and growing by the day. Good to here your connected!

I did all the stuff i posted to my a930 and everything worked from making free ring tones to the mp3 folder and using it as a modem ~

Posted by: skyboard64

Everyone its a good idea to write the setting down in the phones before you all just change everything around so incase and when you do want to go back the store bought settings Peace ~

Posted by: rohit92

Does the DUN use your airtime?

Posted by: shanebrooks

So i figured out if i just hit ignore a million times when loading the PSTLite it finally works, you have to keep on doing this when you navigate thru the menus...

also, i discovered the lock codes are shown for the phone, and you can edit your wap settings to set google as the wap page and not verizon's crappy one.

i didn't ever determine a way to play mp3s thru the vcast controls on the front... the vcast secret menu only has PEK test and Brew info, it doesn't have anything about mp3s in it, althought i do have the secret mp3 player from the settings hidden menu.

Posted by: spandexx55

i also cant get the mp3 option i only get pek test and brew info options, pleas help ive seen this reply here more than once.. thanx

It's a much bigger PITA to get this phone to play mp3s than it is just to convert your mp3s to wma. You'll be better off just converting them. JMHO

I just set up my phone for the phonecam website thing, does this mean whenever I send a text msg or pix msg, it goes through this site first, then goes to the person?

Does this also mean that I only get charged for the data sent and not the msg?

Thanks in advance!

Text message still goes through vzw so you will get text charge for that. The phonecam thingy is for pix msg only and it does not forward to additional address. If you host your own ( you can use Humpa's script, owner of phonecam) then you have the option to forward your message automatically. By using the MMS hack for sending pix, you will get billed air time when applicable.

Does anyobdy still have a copy of the A930 drivers? All of the links I've found in the forums seem to be dead. Thanks!

Posted by: acme64

ok ive got a bluetooth adaptor and i'd like to get started with all this but bitpim doesn't seem to be able to connect to the phone. Anyone have any advice?

edit: so here's some more detail. when i connect the phone to the pc via bluetooth i only get one option which is qc voice gateway. I don't have any other profiles. am i missing something?

Posted by: acme64

nah, cant edit again. well finally figured out you need to change the pc connection to bluetooth to get it to work. new problem though, it connect and disconnects within a minute. and during that samsungpstlite program, it crashes with that error this other guy posted. I did as he said and just kept cliking ignore but once the app loads it doens't have time to actually read the phone or anything.
