Best Camera Phone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: NAve

Is there "a best" phone with a built in camera? I'm hearing the Gd87 has the best resolution, as well as the Sanyo 5300. I'm also finding out that the V205 isn't worth the trouble. If anybody can share their insights on what they think is the best camera phone it would be greatly appreciated.

What is important to you in a camera phone? I would be specific. The variance is great in feature sets among these phones.

p800/3650/6500/gd87.. all built in

6500?

Posted by: Confused69u

got my numbers mixed up..sanyo 5300.....

i blame nokia for their scrwed up numbering system )

Posted by: nemesis9977

well i love the 3650's video feature, and the camrea is nice and clear

the 720i left a little bit to be disired

I dont know I had a 3650 but its a bit bulky, right now I'm thinking of the 7250 but I'm not sure if I want to drop that kind of cash.

Posted by: clonmult

3650 has the best camera, followed by the 7650/P800.

The GD87 camera is okay, but very low resolution (pics are automatically reduced to 132x176 pixels), as is the camera in the 7250.

People confuse the camera and screen quality on the GD87. The screen is very good, the camera is just average.

Hi2all

I own a Moto V300 and I asked my self a variant of this post's question: how good (or poorly) does the V300's camera system compare to other camera-equipped cellphones? I started a thread Over @the Moto chapter of Howardforums to try to answer the question when someone noted that it would probably be better answered in this area of the forum...

The problem I'm having with threads such as this one is that everyone is eager to offer their opnion (and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that) however they rarely back their opnions with any concrete evidence!

In my other post on the subject, I "attached" a test pic from the Moto V300 so that everyone could "see" what I was trying to relay. So I will ask the same of those replying to this post. Let's take Altec & Netblade's answer for instance: "best camera is sharps 300pixel gx-22". Oh, glad to hear it... why, in your (humble?) opinion, is it the best?

So you don't actually have a Sharp GX22 in your hands & you can't provide us with a test pic: no problem! Obviously you read about the GX22 elsewhere - perhaps in a Cellphone Technology mag, or a Mobile-review website. Great, than please provide us with a URL to the review, or in the case of a mag review, the review's hilights.

With all due respect to all the friendly members hangin' out in this cool forum, stating that the GX22 wins, "hands down", doesn't tell me jack! What about the GX22 makes it win hands down, is it the unbelieveable resolution, the ultra-HQ optics, the fact that the user can select JPEG-compression levels, as well as size (resolution)?

Well, enough philosophical ranting, I offer my prior post once more as contribution (to this thread) in terms of the V300! Secondly, I read a nice entry-level article in the German magazine Mobil Funk News - issue 5/2003, article "Emotionen in Pixeln" which, beside describing the ultra-basics in what to look for when shopping for a cam-equipped cell, compared a few cells which they had on hand for the article. they listed the phones in order of quality along with test-images(!)

1. Siemens M55 w/Siemens Quickpic add-on camera.
Specs only state VGA & modern CCD, but having seen the pic, I can add that the color-balance was spot-on and that the camera delivers a very sharp image!

2. Sagem myX-6 - also VGA, ultra-CCD (whatever ultra's supposed to indicate): pic indicates a sharp lens/CCD combination, but the camera suffers from a serious color-shift!

3. Siemens MC60 - QVGA only, but a decent pic, acceptably sharp and only slight shifts in color

4. Sharp GX10 - QVGA only, pic's fuzzy (maybe similarly unsharp as the V300), colors are not too far off - unless you compare it to the Siemens M55 (with Quickpic).

That's my summary report of the article. Again, it's not a list of the world's top cam-equipped (or equippable) cellphones, but a comparison of a few the author happend to have on hand.

First go to websites of the provider you want ( go to several: like tmobile, verizon, att) and look at the camera phones they offer. Then come back to Howard's site. Check out how he profiles each phone ( in great detail, and with fabulous pictures of the phone), then read people's reviews. That should help you immensly. It takes time, but it will help you decide. Good luck!

This url can justify the camera quality of the sharp gx-22:

Bet you will be blown away by the quality of the pics.

No. Go search for your own reviews. Try google.

Thanks for the link - and yeah, that's what I'm talking about, dawg I appreciate the kind support - like most members of this forum have done (but alas, there are always a few exceptions... *cough* Netblade *cough* )

You bet correctly - those sample pics leave no doubt (in my mind) that the GX22's a top-performer in this category

You can see samples of some photos I took with my gd87. They are not bad at all, considering I took them at night under artificial lighting. I use this phone to take all the photos for my auction ads on ebay:

Judgig from the pic quality, the gd87's camera still has a long way to go compared to sharp's gx-2*.

Posted by: ranova

but the gx22 is 600 bux

i jsut got the e715 and i love it, camera is one of the better ones

Posted by: paomien

how do you like the E715? I'm thinking of picking one up myself, since I saw one the other day (and of course it gave me the itches to buy it). Do you think it's a good replacement for a GD88?

Posted by: ranova

i love it, despite the rumored recall, there is none. Someone just confirmed that the newer software version that he got did not fix the first 2 main problems, flipped camera image if in selportrait mode and recent call list lag.

Posted by: Zuffox

For us party-photografers, which cameras have the flash function which, undoubtably, must be at very important feature, or perhaps the most important of them?

Posted by: Malaco0219

e715 has flash
