There is NO wifi. Hopefully this will curb all of the wifi questions.

Posted by: jetfxr

What about HSDPA??? I'm pretty sure it didnt make it but just hoping. Anyone in Memphis area luck out.

Posted by: panaph0bic

HSPDA is not available on the phone yet. They are going to release a free firmware update to enable it 1st quarter of 07'

They most likely didnt have enough time to test it as much as they wanted. They'd rather get it out and start selling. There is currently a HSPDA hack for the Vodaphone, and most likely will work on Cingular.

Posted by: Goldenmonkey1

RELEASED?!?!

oh my god!

are there any 24 hour cingular stores around? heh

Posted by: John-Fox

I am leary of upgrades from Cingular and/or the phone's manufacturer after the 2125 turned into a paperweight (as far as text entering goes). Though I am sure I will be updating this when I can.

I will admit, I think it is annoying it is being released without HSPDA. And pardon my lack of knowledge on this topic, but it not having HSPDA means no 3G, no highspeed whatsoever right now, correct?

Posted by: importluva

it has UMTS which is 3G. HSDPA is the super-fast 3G. Its like GPRS and EDGE.

Posted by: fognugen

Someone posted an question in the closed 750 thread about maximizing battery life that I wanted to follow up on.

The answer the original post was to just keep the battery fully charged right off the bat.

Mine arrived fully fully charged..... so is the best thing to do is keep it on the charger when not moving around town? No cycling the battery and just keep on juice whenever possible?

Thanks for the info.

Wanted to make a thread for simple Q&A... maybe we can help eachother out.

My first problem is locking the keypad. I've already made 3 inadvertant calls while the phone was in my pocket. Anyone know how to lock the keypad?

Posted by: lcpc78

On the 650 the keypad locks when the screen turns off. When you press the call buttton it brings the screen back to life and you have to press the center key to unlock it. I thought the same was true on the 750.

The call button brings the phone back to life with the last dialed number highlighted, so if you hit the call button twice in a row then it starts dialing whether you want it to or not.

Hold down the white "shift" key and then press red power button. You can also set the phone up to automatically lock when the screen turns off by going to start > settings > keyguard.

That's the proper method for ensuring the longevity of your battery. Some say that they cycle it a few times which shouldn't hurt it. If you do decide to cycle the battery, don't keep doing it - 2-4x should be plenty. Then just keep it charged up.

Posted by: F.Garvin

I've never understood this: Why does it not come with HSDPA out of the box??? I mean, there is a hack available to make it HSDPA-capable. Why is Cingular limiting it to a slower speed?

Posted by: RF9

HSDPA on the 750 is still buggy. So UMTS only until it's fixed and tested.

Posted by: big51ben

I've had a Treo 750v about a month. Figured out the turn on for the HSDPA turn on. Here is the HOFO link:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...highlight=HSDPA

Also, with the increased speed SlingBox is GREAT.

Enjoy,

Is Blackberry Connect on the 750. Or does the device even work with Blackberry Connect?

Has anyone in the New York area seen the 750 at any stores?

Posted by: Heinrich

1- does the cursor pad move through available items on the screen ala a 650, making 1-handed operation nice and smooth?

2 - does the red phone icon turn off the screen and the green phone icon turn it on ala 650? This drives me nuts on my 8525, I have to use a seperate (power) button.

Yes

Yes, but the Red button only works when its on the Today screen. If its on another screen, it brings you back to the Today screen first, then you hit it again and it turns off the screen.

Try your question in the Treo 750 availability thread.
This thread is for discussion of features.

Posted by: RF9

So Cingular Video is not supported. I know you can install Real Player and make it work (the way I did on the 8525) but not out of the box, correct?

Can anyone tell me if it has Push To Talk? If not, then what does the side button below the volume keys do?

Posted by: GregGebhardt

Push to talk worked so poorly for us that we turned it off.

Posted by: Razor1973

For those of you who already have the device, whether the one just released by Cingular or the Vodaphone one, what do you honestly (no bias please) think about the size of the device and the screen. Its dimensions and the fact that the screen resolution is only 240x240 worry me.

Thanks.

Posted by: WozniakMac

The resolution of the 750 is like that of the 700wx for Alltel. It has such a low screen resolution that it makes the display seem dull. My PPC 6700 has a great screen, but the 700wx and 750 are lacking in that department.

Wirelessly posted (Palm750/v0000 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

one thing I have noticed about the screen and images on the web they don't look sharp almost fuzzy. but only in pocket ie. in opera mobile it looks fine.

Posted by: topnotchchach

What happened to voice mail features? Fast fowarding/rewinding...

in the powerpoint release presentation, supposedly you can do it.

can someone help me out.

Posted by: cjmedina

napster to go works with my 750 as does my 2 gig minsd,

Posted by: SCOfoshO

can someone please explain to me the difference between the media maxx plan and the PDA plan? I currently have the media max plan, and was wondering if there is any difference at all between the two. Because i keep hearing people say they will use their max plan with the treo 750.

Posted by: importluva

SCOfoshO, I personally found that isp.cingular is much more reliable than wap.cingular, and the former is available only on PDAconnect/Dataconnect plans. YMMV, but that is what I've noticed.

Posted by: F.Garvin

The difference is pretty much price only!

Posted by: SCOfoshO

so its not going to be any slower or less operable?

Posted by: importluva

Quote:

Like I said, from my experience in/around Chicago and Washington DC, I had major reliability issues with wap.cingular. My guess is that the network was getting overloaded. YMMV.

thank you very much

I have the Cingular Treo 750 and I feel that the physical size and screen resolution are both good. If you enable cleartype fonts the screen looks much better. The device fits the hand nicely and with the new rubbery texture feels very secure in your palm.

I like how all these sites are bashing the 750's 240 x 240 display. Then I guess all windows mobile phones suck; because they all have the same resolution per amount of space such as the 8525. The 8525 just has a bigger screen. And I thought the WiFi thing would be an issue for me too, but after getting an 8525 and never having to use the WiFi (even in my basement) I would rather have the form factor of the treo. I was almost tempted to get my 680 back from my sister because I just love using the thing. And that brings me to my final beef; I think the plumpness of the treo is perfect, many journalist keep referencing the black jack and others that are slimer. I personally think the blackjack and Q are too wide, crapy on battery life and with no touch screen...forget about it. I really am glad, and hope, in the future, that palm keeps its form adds features here and there and doesn't buy into this slim RAZR induced crap that has phones getting wider but slimmer. Great job PALM!!! I also am a fan of candybar style phones and can type faster on the treo than the 8525 and I don't like sliders or flips so that could be were some of my bias comes from. If your like me, take back the 8525 and get yourself a 750.

Ciconne and the boys just did a full hour podcast on thr T750. Go check it out. Oh yeah, don't make fun of the way dave breathes. LOL.

Did anyone skip my question?

What happened to the voice mail features/ How do you access them.

NM... I found out via the pdf 750 manual on line... SUPER COOL!!!

Posted by: Rock3nrenigade

Can some one post the hack for CV?? Also, for anyone with a BMW that has BlueTooth, it seems like at this point the Treo 750 is incompatible. .

Posted by: ditohead

In the 750 user manual PDF it says you can add voice commands "to execute some commands on the Start menu and Programs menu". Can you also add voice tags to phone numbers like you can on the 8125 for voice dialing?

Posted by: davesipaq

Here you go

http://mobilitytoday.com/news/cingular_video_treo.html

Posted by: Jayden0606

Before the flamers come out... The HSDPA is not on it yet because we are trying to perfect it. For some reason there is an issue with drop calls with the HSDPA.

I have a treo 700p with Sprint and the hang up key is what turns it off. So the Cingular version has the green to power on?

Posted by: GardnerMS

Jayden..

do you have any ideas when the phone will actually be listed on the Premier / Cingular.com websites?

Posted by: topnotchchach

I will pose my question here also...

Hello everyone,

I got my treo 750 on saturday and its cool. However, im so used to getting push email via my sidekick, that i find it a pain that i have to set up my email on treo to send/recieve every minute.

Here is the problem...

I do know that my treo 750 connects to my server and checks if there is mail... so it gets a connection...

But...

when i want to go on the internet i get this error

"the page you are looking for cannot be found due to unknown error 0x800880000."

I know i have a connection because there is a "g" or a "u"(depends where i at ) with two arrows underneath.

The only i can access the internet is if i click disconnect from "connectivity" aka data and then type another internet address and click go.

this is really lame and time consuming, cause i feel i should be able to receive email and go on the net without changing settings.

PLEASE HELP!!!! I wish i could just get email to be sent automatically and not having my phone connect everyminute.

Im also on the pda connect plan unlmtd.

much thanks in advance.

Posted by: trjons

Best push email solution "for now" is the vgsmail client.

Posted by: Naveen

does anyone here go to treonauts.com? i was reading the release info this morining about the 750 and the memo states that the treo is five band capable???

Posted by: GardnerMS

Naveen.. That would be correct...

3 GSM/EDGE Bandwidths...
2 3G Bandwidths (UTMS / HSPDA -- to be rolled out later this year)

Acutally its four GSM bands: 850/900/1800/1900 and 3 UMTS bands: 850/1900/2100

but you'll notice that both radios work on 850/1900

for a grand total of 5 bands: 850/900/1800/1900/2100

Posted by: Goldenmonkey1

what are the internet settings needed to connect via 3g?

still just wap.cingular?

Posted by: cjmedina

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

still wap.cingular

Anyone know if the plantronics 655 works with the Treo 750?
I tried it on my 650 and it had a delay in answering calls which made it unusable for me? I really liked it otherisw and would like to get another one if it works with my just ordered 750.

Thanks

Anyone know when xpressmail will be coming??

I put my 8525 SIM card into my Treo 750 and all is working well except I cannot connect to Medianet. Any idea on why this would be a problem? I cannot get out to the Internet at all but my e-mail is working great.

Posted by: spenfunk

Does anyone know what the max supported miniSD card size is? Do the legitimate 4GB miniSD cards work? The User Guide doesn't specify.

I know most of the 4GB cards out there are SDHC....does anyone know of a regular one which works with their 750.

I'm loving that rubbery shell too.

I'm really picky about my contacts and so far the 750 sorts your contacts in alphabetical order by last name. Is there an option to reverse this so it's alpha by first name?

Also I was trying to put my Chiropractor in my phone and listed it as...

Chiropractor - Dr. Jones

...however it sorts it as "Jones" I even deleted the "-" and then the "Dr." hoping it would just think the first name is Chiropractor and NO LUCK...it still has it listed as "Jones" and only "Jones" in my phone book. This is really annoying as I want the freedom to sort my contacts using my own naming convention.

Like I said, I'm REALLY particular when it comes to my contacts and this WON'T DO!

PS - Where the HECK is the alarm on this phone??? Just a plain old alarm to wake me up.

Cingular - Blackstone/Herndon

Also, I found the "Alarm" feature and it won't go off unless the screen is ON - LAME! and it beeps once with a soft beep! Nothing that will wake me up. This MUST be on the phone...it's got to be more than this, right!?

Yes, the 750 can do full screen, but then you have to scroll from side to side.

The link on the today screen to get xpress mail worked for me. It downloaded, installed, and I registered. I went on to the xpress mail web site and it even shows that a Treo 750 is my registered device.

Treo 750:
IE's home screen goes to Media net ( http://device.home/ )
Previously the only way I could ever get to that site (on the Treo 650 or 8525) was to enable the wireless.cingular.com proxy setting.
But it appears the proxy server is not set, yet I can still get to device.home.

Is the proxy setting not where I think it is? Did Cingular change something so that you don't need the proxy anymore to get to media Net on a Treo 750?

What gives?

NO! It's free with any data plan. Don't fall for this new "xpress mail" package pricing, it's a trick. I'm not pulling you leg.
Just go toone http://xpressmailpe.cinglar.com/ to register. It's not at all tied to the billing system.

So, I exchanged my 680 for the 750 today. Honestly, I am not that impressed. I was getting so hyped up for this phone and I'm thinking about going back to the 680.

Not all of my tasks are syncing from outlook to the 750. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

Using a bluetooth headset with the voice command is pretty shoddy. The voice command will work via my headset at first, then when it asks to dial home, work, or mobile it switches from the bluetooth headset back to the phone?!?

Anyone know how to get the backlight for the keyboard to stay on longer? It keeps going off, long before the screen dims and it often doesn't come back on when I push the center button.

For some reason. My ringers just stopped working and I had to do a soft reset to get the sound to work again.

Anyone else having these problems? Anyone have suggestions/advice?

So far, I'm really dissapointed considering I've been impatiently waiting for this phone for several months. I may go back to the 680 or wait for the iPhone.

I had the same problem of the keypad light going out too soon. I tried hanging up the phone and had no idea what button to push. If anyone knows how to adjust the timing please let us know.

Who knows how mute the ringer with a one button push? I know you can use the top button that slides to mute but then it stays on mute. On most phones there is a side button you can press to do this and it temporarily mutes that call only.

Anyone know if you can pause, rewind, fastforward voicemail messages on the 750?

I've been holding out for the 750 as I currently have an 8125 with a cracked screen but its usable....for now
I use voice dial all of the time, but can't think of too many other apps that 750 could do that the 680 couldn't. Does the 680 have a comprable voice dial app. ie can tell it to "Dial 555-555-5555" & it do it like the 750 can?

I hate the freezing on my 8125 and was hoping that the 750 would correct this problem. Now you have me second guessing the 750!!! The 680 is very tempting, especially since you can get it unlocked from PALM. They say the unlocked 750 is comming at the end of the month, but I just don't know if I can hold out that long!!!!! ARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHH!

Just watched Steve Jobs' keynote. If you haven't watched it, I recommend it. Its about 1hr45min long, but you can skip around and you can find it on apple's website. In my opinion the phone is revolutionary. My 750 is going back tomorrow and I'm waiting for the iPhone. I am THOROUGHLY dissapointed with the 750.

The iPhone isn't coming out until June. I guess you'll be without a phone for quite awhile.

I'm curious to find out why you were so disappointed with the 750?

Let's be honest though..you have to be realistic and accept the fact that the iphone will have it's problems as well. Even the best company needs 5 generations of their product to perfect it. I think the phone is phat but the first party software, the lack of static keyboard, and the unstated battery life leaves me wondering how successful it will be.

With the 750, I get the data speeds, static keyboard, option to load third party software. The palm tweaks leave nothing to be desired and I no longer question the stability of the Windows Mobile OS as mine rarely freezes. Your issues with the keyboard, and the ringer might be isolated to one unit. Although the voice command issue is frustrating, I have remembered to say the contact and location together so I am not prompted for the location.

I'm making myself ready to switch from 650 to 750 which I hope I'll have any day now. My biggest concern is Contacts. Is there any way to transfer contacts directly from 650 to 750? Or should I sync them through Outlook?

Posted by: Goldenmonkey1

i'm sure there's an easier way, but what i had to do...

export them from palm software in CSV

import them to outlook - match up columns as well as possible

then fix everything - since a lot of stuff was mislabeled. didn't take too long. but wasn't the easiest transfer.

None that I know of. I just moved my wife over from the 650 to the 750 last night. I synced the 650 up to outlook, then synced the 750 to outlook. It worked great as far as I know.

Specifically my steps:
1) Went in to WindowsXP control panel, clicked on "Mail" settings and deleted the existing outlook profile
2) Ran outlook, created a brand new outlook profile (so it was totally clean for her data.)
3) Uninstalled Palm Desktop (was set up to sync with Palm Desktop Only)
4) Deleted (well renamed) the C:\\program files\palm directory (left over files after uninstall.)
5) Installed Palm Desktop, chose "sync with outlook" during install.
6) Synced the 650 up with outlook.
7) Installed MS Activesync
8) Plugged in the Treo 750 and Activesync synced it with the Treo 750.
You will, of course, now have all of your calendar, contacts, taks, and memos on the 750 (unless you chose not to sync those items.)

The fastest way is to hit "Option" + "P" (Option is the solid white button at the bottom left of the keyboard.)
This brings up the backlight adjustment. On that screen is a link to the baclight settings. This keyaboard shortcut is one of the many features unique to Treo 750 that I love.

You can also get there by Menu-Settings-System-Backlight

Yes, I have it. I was using it all last night. It works pretty well. I'm not having the problems that they reported on the Spectect Wifi thread on treocentral.com

Here are the problems:
1) You have to reboot with the card installed for it to activate the drivers. After that you can insert/remove the card and it's recognized.
2) the card sticks out so the cover doesn't close because it's longer than a memory card. So you can't really leave it in all of the time (just put it in when you want to use it.)
3) When the Treo powers off in to standby (time-out, or by pressing the red button) it powers down the card. So it won't work when in standby mode. But this is standard for the 8125 and 8525 anyway.
4) It's not frequent, but I have had the card just reset a few times. I just see the wifi link go down and come back up.
5) Cingular in their infinite wisdom hard-coded the wireless.cingular.com proxy setting in to Internet Explorer so that you can access the Media Net site (to buy their ****.) So it will not browse the web with the Wifi card unelss you edit the registry and remove this because that proxy only works over cingular wireless. I deleted a whole bunch of settings before I got it to work (without the proxy). So now I have to factory reset and go back and figure out exactaly what was the one that worked.
6) I used the latest driver from http://www.spectec.tw/

Besides those issues, I have an adapter for a micro-sd to mini-sd. Spectec has a micro-sd wifi card as well that I want to try in the Treo with the adapter. I wonder if it might work better/more reliably and if it might fit better.
Getting the adapter was easy (ewiz.com) but I can't find the specec micro-sd wifi card. I want to buy it but no one sells it.

I'm glad it works. It's very fast. My tests show about 1Mbps.

There's a lot of info on this in the forum at treocentral.com Just search on: spectec wifi

Ditto. I'm sure the iPhone is cool. But I like buttons, and it doesn't have buttons.
And it won't be cheap. Still, if you're a heavy ipod user (carry it with you everywhere) and are looking to just lose an extra device (say a flip phone) then I think that's the target audience for the iphone. I think it'll be great for them. But current PDA users are probably going to find the WM5 devices more useful all-around.

I heard about the proxy issue. Some folks have been using Opera Mobile versus going into the registry. I may go that route since I do not like to mess in the registry much.

Has anyone been able to figure out a way to create distribution lists in WM5? That is the only thinkg I miss from my Blackberry 8700.

wow, my slingbox plays real smooth on my 750. I was going to do the HSDPA hack to get more speed, but I don't need to. It's prob cuz of the small screen. And I get over 400kps in my basement on UMTS!!! I'll be patient on not screw up my phone with hacks I know nothing about. Just don't take too long Cingular/Palm.

p.s. iPhone is going to take over the world. consider me assimilated.

I agree with the touch screen comment. Give me the static keyboard any day.

Also, didn't I see that the IPhone doesn't run on 3G? If that is true, it is goofy to bring out a "leading edge" device to run on old technology.

i can't afford a slingbox right now... i want to wait until i get my old camera 100% sold via ebay to cover the costs on the slingbox...

but damn i want one.

they're hoping wifi eliminates that need.... i dont see it. i NEED the 3g. they're advertising "fast internet, automatically switches to wifi when available"

give me 3g over wifi anyday, most wifi places around here are pay per use anyway.

I am using a palm 750 and when I got to websites such as www.nba.com I get the moblie version but when I go to others I get the regular website, can this be fixed or is that just the way it is? Also does anyone know how to set up the xpress email for aol customers? And last does anyone know if you can assign one person a ring tone instead of an entire group? thanks

if you want to turn off the shutter sound on your camera do the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Pictures\Camera\OEM\Soun dFile
Modify the string/value \windows\no sound wav.
that wav. is already in the windows folder

So what do you guys think of the call quality of the 750 vs the 650? I'm sure it's been covered but I couldn't find it easily. The 650 was pretty quite and not very good without volume care installed. The 650 speakerphone I thought was about average. Should I expect the 750 to be about the same or is it noticably improved?
Also, will the 750 work with subscription based music services? I saw the 680 will but didn't see anything about it for the 750. thanks

Posted by: MothMan1699

I read somewhere that the 750 was supposed to have manual network selection enabled. I don't see an option to do that on mine, though. Is there a hack available?

The 750 volume and call quality are MUCH better I like the sound and volume of the 750 better than my 650 with volume care installed. Speakerphone has good volume and people on the other end thinks it sounds good also! The 750 also provides a CRISP and CLEAR sound. The 750 is a much better PHONE for making calls vs. the 650. I actually didnt care for my 650 as an actual phone for making calls.

You can get to it from the Menu / Preferences / Phone Settings / Services / Band Selection.

I just got the Treo 2 days ago and I am in love with it...

I had quite a difficult time getting the phone to sync with my outlook contacts (kept getting a communications error), but I think it was due to my laptop which is in need of some TLC. I installed ActiveSync 4.5 Beta from Microsoft's website and it cleared up all of my problems.

I do have 3 gripes though so far... maybe someone has some info for me?

1) No voice-dialing. (I know about voicecommand, but it doesn't work very well at all for me). I wish you could record a voice-name for a contact, and then say that name that it matches to your recording to dial.

2) No ability to send SMS to multiple people from a list. You have to select or type each name in individually. On my RAZR you could compose an sms, and then check a box next to each person you wanted to send to. That was awesome. Is there a way to do that on this device?

3) (this one may be my laptops fault again)... I cannot sync to my laptop over bluetooth. When I try to, it says I need to set up a partnership. When I set up the partnership, the only service my laptop offers is dial-up-networking, or stereo headset (weird). Neither of these will allow activesync to connect. Any ideas? I can live with using the USB cable, but would be nice to be able to update over the bluetooth.

I'm guessing all other acessories like sync / charge cables and anything that uses the port on the bottom should fit then. That's good, I don't want to have to buy a whole new set of acessories.

Yes you can. Just put a semicolon ";" between each phonen number on the list of people you want to send it to.

So start text messging.
Compose a new message.
Type in the name, it'll find the contact, you select the number.
It puts the number in the "TO" field, and you'll notice it automatically puts a semicolon after it.
Just repeat loooking up your next one, and next one, etc.

That should do it for you.

Thanks for the response. Actually, I meant being able to manually select a different GSM carrier, like T-Mobile, for example. Under Menu ---> Preferences ---> Phone ---> Settings ---> Services ---> System, there is no way to manually select the network. Cingular usually disables this feature, but I read in some thread that the Treo 750 was going to be an exception.

Anybody else have any idea as to how to do this? I usually get great reception, but I'm used to having the feature and would like to have it in case of an emergency.

Thanks...

Sorry, I wasn't really clear... what I meant was you couldn't actually go down a list and check off the people in your contacts you want to send to, or you can't just select "all contacts" if you want to message everyone on a list or in a certain category. I know you can type in the name/number of multiple recipients at once, but it would be nice to just highlight and select them without having to go back to the contacts menu after each add.

Hello Folks

I am just a novice at this device. Can anybody guide me if wifi is available in this phone and if it is, then what do i need to do in order to use it.

I dont want to spend $39/month of cingular's unlimited data plan and that's why interested in wifi.

thx

Posted by: ericrwalker

Yes it's available with a MiniSD wifi card that will stick out the side of the treo. Do a search for a miniSD wifi card or maybe mini wifi.
